Any more details on this?

(hoping that 'Chandler" wasn't the semi known player)

It sounds like both Jordan and Tiger are both in that not-quite "C" class level.

That would be an interesting match to sweat at 100k per rack.

When he suddenly "retired" from the NBA and tried to play minor league baseball there was speculation his gambling habit caused the NBA to send him in that direction. He reportedly owed a guy over a million dollars in golf gambling debt before settling out of court for a lesser sum.

Whether he still gambles or not I don't know but him getting hustled out of some cash at pool doesn't surprise me.

MJ sure has some gamble. It is pretty well known that he is usually in big action on the golf course. I sometimes wondered if that was the real reason he retired from basketball the first time. His gambling was starting to come out in the press and it probably wouldn't have been too long before they found out he was betting NBA games (if he was), maybe even the Bulls. He probably saw a possible Pete Rose situation forming but the story faded away when he retired.

Yeah, who knows...MJ might be down to his last $200 million, but definitely not destitute, or "on short money"! LOL Magic just spent a huge chuck of his fortune on a baseball team!

MJ is said to have a net worth of around $525 Million.

Excerpt from Forbes Wealth Valuations: The Wealthiest Black Americans;

...Rounding out the top five are two basketball greats: Michael Jordan ($525 million) and Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Jr. ($500 million), both of whom parlayed their time on the court into lucrative endorsement and business deals in retirement.

Ummm, no. Jordan was considering retiring in 1992. Then his father was murdered in 1993, and that made Jordan walk away in 1994.

Thus, he decided to give another game a try that he enjoyed, baseball. And it just so happens the guy that owns the Bulls, owns the White Sox... so, if he didn't want to play baseketball, why not keep Jordan attached to your "other" business. Smart move...

Yeah, Jordan losing a million bucks is like a pool player losing a hundo.... not a big deal really. And if the NBA can have rapists, wife beaters, muderers and drug addicts and dealers, do you really think they would chase away one of the top players to ever play the game ??

RJ, I know what you mean, generally speaking gambling is the least of the vices some athletes have. But there is a difference that would give the NBA concern and that is that a player's gambling, especially if it was found to be on NBA games, would have a direct impact on the integrity of the game. Not saying MJ was doing this, just pointing out the more general reason the NBA would perhaps be so concerned about gambling than some of the other problems players have had.

MJ could own pool on what Nike pays him in a year and still have enough leftover for a small island.

Imagine if the game grabbed him for life :eek:.

The supremely talented athlete he is,with unmeasurable competitive spirit and heart, and a virtually unlimited bankroll to go along with a taste for betting it up big.

Picture him hiring someone like Stan Shuffett or Bert Kinister, and putting the time in.

Kinda scary if you think about it really. Tommy D.
