Ultra skins sell for what $2.50 To $3.00. How good of a tip do you think it is for $2.50 the reason repair guys love them and talk them up so much is because they simply make more off them. There are far better tips out there for a reasonable price . But a quality not junk you will be more happy in the end. I have tried them more then once and would not stock them even if I got them for free and my profit was 100%
If the ultraskins where all that , Why don't they sell for more, Don't tell me your selling them for $2.50 - $3.00 because your just a nice guy, If you could sell them for lets say $10-$15, You know you would and if you would not then that's just a stupid business move, The fact of the matter is they are cheep tips period, Plane and simple. Like I said I would not stock them even if I got them for free and my profits where 100% on them, I think I have maybe $2,000 worth of tip inventory and could put anything I want on my cue, An ultraskin would be the very last tip I would ever use and I tell all my customers and who ever asked the same thing. You simply can not compare an ultraskin to a G-2 or a Kamui, or a Zan, sure they are a lot less money but there is a reason why. End of story, I'm not hear to have a pissing contest with anyone, Just saying what I believe to be true, I have installed them and don't like the way they cut and burnish at all, and needless to say I don't like the way they play at all but then again what can you really expect from a $2.00 Tip.

How about getting back to the subject?
the reason repair guys love them and talk them up so much is because they simply make more off them.
This thread reminds me of a friend of mine. He posted a guitar for sale on Ebay for $2500 and it didn't sell for a month............ He raised the price to $3500 and it sold in a day............
The moral of the story..............
If you buy relying on the perception of value from the price......... well..... all is not what it seems............ you just might be a sucker.
Ultra Skin tips are just as good as any other tip and better than most......

I also stock many well known brands of tips, just for a few die hard fans.
I like the idea of being able to install a great tip on customers cues, give them a serious break in price, and still keep my profit margin.
200 K people in our small town and a smaller Pool Community. Not going to attempt to ruin my reputation by installing garbage on cues and trying to pass them off as half way decent.
I brag these tips up. I always make a deal with my customers. If I suggest a tip, (Ultra Skin), and they don't like them 100%, I will credit them the install price that they paid against any other tip that I stock. So far, no one has taken me up on the offer.
And, their Friends come to me wanting the same tip, after they tried their friends shaft and tip out.
I was never impressed with Skamui to begin with.
Before Ultra Skins came out, I bought a fair amount of California Tips from Somewhere, China on EBay. They are actually a half decent layered tip in all respects.
They came out to approx 1 dollar a piece. I used these for the poorer players in town so I could give them a real good deal. They could have a layered tip over a Cheap Le Pro or a Triangle. And never one complaint on those either.
I came to find that there were a few other Repairmen on AZB that also used these.
In Asian Countries, the price that people pay for items has a perceived Status that comes along with it.
If I showed someone a Zan tip and told them that I paid $100 for it, they would all be fawning over it and likely looking for one also.
Anyway, JT sounds like there is somewhat of a deeper story behind his posts. There is a way to give your customers quality products for a decent price, and still maximize your profits too.
There is only one player in town that drank the Skamui Kool Aid and will pay someone 40 to 50 bucks for a tip install.
I have never charged anyone that amount for any tip, and that includes a Moori.
