Mosconi Cup 2015, Boyes: 'Disappointed if we aren't partying on Wednesday!'

I have a lot of respect for the good European shooters and most seem like decent and fierce competitors. But, here are some facts.

As I said before. Team USA is playing against a stacked deck when playing Team Europe, which has the potential for a larger talent pool to choose from. Is that really a fair competition? ..

Really: USA had a population of 322 millions in 2014.

The countries who have been able to produce Mosconi Cup players in the recent years when Europe have been dominant are Germany, UK, Netherlands, Greece, Finland, Poland, and I could even throw in Austria - that is around 225 millions - 100 mill less.

If we start to talk about number of pool players in USA vs Europe, I would guess USA is more than 10 to 1.

The last 5 years dominance is all about:

Bar box kiddy pool vs Treating pool as a sport,

Looking for the next easy score vs Focus on practice and tournaments and getting in shape

Being a lamb killer on a regional tour vs Seasoning yourself on the international pool scene

That are the main reasons, forget the population card..

Finally, some sense against the typical nonsensical whining. Where was the population factor when USA was the dominant force back in the days, huh?

agreed, Darren.

where is ATLARGE when we need him?
didn't we have this conversation of population &/or square footage after Mosconi 2013?

the UK is approx equivalent to Atlanta. if the US can't whip some British arse(s), then we have no one to blame, but ourselves.

Team Great Britain would be something along the lines of Appleton, Boyes, Shaw, Gray, Melling/Peach
I like this team to beat the current USA team.

Appleton and Boyes only two that would beat Melling, even then not by much.

I agree 100%. Johnnyt

Darn...

You guys have some valid points as to why Team Europe wins and I am trying to be big enough person to come to terms with that.

Any way, I enjoy watching good shooters playing good pool and I hope the Cup is full of that and good sportsmanship this year.

I want pool to be played well by gentlemen who are fierce competitors who are humble and gracious when they win and not sore loosers in defeat.

I'm not going for this...statistics can be so easily manipulated to produce what you want.
.....like....the average human has one breast and on testicle.

The talent base that the Euro team draws from is well over double of USA's.
If you want to talk figures about where the team players actually come from....
...then what's good for the goose is good for the gander.
Let's do the population of each State that the USA team comes from....
...starting with South Dakota, population less that 900,000.

In fact, USA's talent base is about 320 million..
..Europe's talent base is about 740 million.

What about THIS?

Do you think having a professional tour has anything to do with Europe's recent Mosconi Cup domination?

I'm calling out everybody who endorsed Pooladdict's point of view...
If you use his math for BOTH SIDES....the population base of the American team
is roughly 40 million....let's round off the European side to 200 million....
....that leaves the population base 5 to 1 in Europe's favor.

...maybe youse guys would now prefer the 740 to 320 figures?

And, referring to the original post, I think that if BC Boyes parties on Wednesday
night, he's going to be playing on Thursday with a hangover.

And you people on the Main Floor of North America....can you hear all that noise in
the Attic?....that's a bunch of Canucks cheering for y'all.

No bro...just no

And I'm going to take a minute to back up referee Ken Schumann.
Karl was not placing the ball at first.
Watching the replay, Karl takes the cue ball and holds it to the table then lifts it back up at which the referee called foul.
Karl makes a big scene insisting he was placing the ball, but he definitely measured it out at first and picked it back up.

I'm not sure if it's defined in the rules, but to use the CB to measure where one is actually placing it ought not be a foul imho.

Karl could have been more sympathetic to Ken's plight I think. He made a mistake and humbly attempted to correct it and appease all the relevant parties. I guess pressure plays a role in how players react to some situations.
