The question is, will I be posting this in a couple of days?

I saw 5 balls skid badly. Is it the balls being polished, new cloth, or chalk getting on the training ball? Bergman had 2 skids, Mike D. had at least 2 skids, Shane at least 1 and Europe had some too. Johnnyt

The 8ball Appleton hit game 3 or 4 (singles v SVB) probably (unless was a safe) skid too. Missed by 1.5 diamonds. Left SVB terrible & Appleton won anyway.

... Appleton and SVB have met 5 times in Mosconi Cup singles matches. Appleton won 6-2 in 2010, they split matches in 2012 5-0 and 1-5, and Appleton won twice last year 5-2 and 5-3. So Appleton is ahead 4-1 in matches and 22-12 in games.

Update -- it is now 5-1 in Appleton's favor in Mosconi Cup singles matches vs. SVB (and 27-13 in games).

Crap

I want to pick Team USA next year. It will be Earl, Johnny, Rodney, Skyler and me ! Hatch can come and play Boyles.

Are they playing with Cyclop balls?

And to the person that said Mike was the hero of the first match -- he was the hero by default. He missed the 3 ball in that game by the same 3 inches he missed that 7 ball in the doubles match. But in the all team match he got lucky it shit in two rails and he ran out.

One thing is for sure.
Sky is by far the HUNGRIEST guy on the team.
Hunger is oozing out of him, right through the tv and into the room.

I was INCREDIBLY impressed by Sky's play in his first Mosconi Cup ever. He played beautiful pool. Shot making, safety play, confidence, etc., etc., etc..........

He showed absolutely no fear!!!!!

I have watched 2 matches so far. I love every US player on this team. They are young, exciting and they are obviously great players.

This is the most exciting sporting event of the year for me to watch.

The difference in the level of commentary from Wych to the American guy, who's name escapes me at this moment, is stunning. I can not listen to Wych anymore, at all, so all of the matches go on mute immediately. Where as the other guy is always awesome, one of the best in the business. Breslyn is OK, but slants to the euro side, not half as bad and annoyingly as Wych though.

Great time of the year. Go USA!

The commentators so far have been:

Match 1. Jim Wych and Jerry Forsyth
Match 2. Jerry Forsyth and Jay Helfert
Match 3. Wych and Helfert
Match 4. Wych and Helfert
Match 5. Wych and Forsyth

I like Wych's commentary.

Do you disagree? Do you think Niels flyer bank at the end that lucked into a different pocket was the proof of his cleanliness, or was it the early missed jump shot that leaked into another pocket? Or was it his two odd push out choices?

Other than Justin's one missed 7-ball, was there any other shot or pattern that you deemed not clean?

Freddie <~~~ must have been watching a different stream

I thought at the time it was pretty clear that Niels outplayed him - whilst getting a couple of slices of luck; I don't have time to rewatch the match and highlight specific moments. What I found more amusing was the "he might have lost, but he played better" attitude that seems to permeate these forums each year. If it's not the break it's the crowd, if not the crowd then the format, if not the format then the rolls. It's a losing attitude - amongst the players and the fans, IMO.

What's that quote from The Hustler?

"I'm the best you ever seen, Fats. I'm the best there is. And even if you beat me, I'm still the best."
"Stay with this kid; he's a loser."

It reminded me of that.
The US needs to get away from that line of thinking if they want to be successful in this competition again.

That being said, I thought it was fairly even today. I thought the US were fortunate to win the first match, but they then let Europe off the hook in the second, so it goes both ways. Woodward played well. Hopefully it will be a close cup this year.

IMO U.S.A. needs play more safes when they have bad shot position or a bad roll or lucky leave and stop trying to be the hero on every shot. They wouldn't take these crazy shots gambling or in major tournaments. They play like they're just happy with the 10k they already have. Johnnyt

PS: maybe it's 7,500.

Wych is indeed terrible, his commentary is a copy&paste of last year's, which was a copy&paste of 2 years before, which was....you get the picture. King of cliches. But, Whych rooting for the Euros??? What are you smoking? He's one of the greatest SVB nuthuggers ever drew breath on earth, ferchrissake!

All American commentators suck major balls. They're way too old to understand the modern game, they're puking "pearls" every 5 minutes. Meh...

The way you guys have described all these missed shots...lucked shots and generally all around bad shooting....if I did not know better I would think you are describing apa players :D
