Mosconi Cup...pick your five!

Wow will be an over used word by you when you hear some of the news concerning the MC Squad over the coming months leading up to December

Some Ground Breaking Stuff

I wonder if some, or all of you have listened to the interviews with the candidates so far. And if so, has it made any difference as to whom of the 8 that you'd like to see actually make the final cut?

Or, another way to put it....have any of the interviews made you NOT want a particular player to make the cut?

Okay to me the first two are gimme's...Shane Van Boening and Cory Deuel.
The third would have to be Justin Bergman but the water starts getting murky after that.

You have Oscar Dominguez, Sky Woodward, Brandon Shuff, Earl Strickland, Chip Compton, Joey Gray, Mike Dechaine, Johnny Archer, Alex Olinger, Tommy Kennedy, Shaun Wilke, Robb Seaz, Rodney Morris, Shannon Daulton, Jeremy Sossi, Scott Frost, and Shannon Murphy as a few to choose from. Feel free to add other names. What say you AZ?

Van Boening
Dechaine
Deuel
Archer
Morris

If going mostly by skill and a little by experience, this is probably the best squad. But this isn't the criteria that Mark Wilson is using to pick the team, and whether we agree with it or not, several of those players are not even in the running for consideration.

For the record, I actually think that squad would play together pretty well as a team too though.

Yes, Shane, Dechaine, Archer, Morris and Deuel would be a very strong team, but it just doesn't matter. Mark has narrowed the list of candidates to eight and will pick the guys he believes in and who he believes will mesh as a team. That's his vision and his right, and I'm sure he'll do what it takes to prepare the final five for the Mosconi.

What is the point in continuing to predict the inclusion of players who are not among the final eight?

After a blundering Mosconi cup performance like this one http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pIv93L_LiHI V Van den Berg, any captain would be lynched if he brings back Mike Dechaine . His attitude does not help either
This is team event +it is race to 5 , so really any top player can beat each other. So really
It isn't about picking top ranked player it is about picking those who can play as a team and more importantly play under pressure . No point picking the top ranked player if he crumbles under Mosconi Cup pressure.
Give him another chance ? Heck it is like running for POTUS, previous Presidential nominees seldom get another chance cos there are others in the queue who will say "You had your chance you choked so now it is our turn":)

+1 for the TOP PART of the quote. Give MD another chance ??? Heck yeah !! He's got TALENT, just needs to work on pressure play and attitude a little. For that reason, I don't think MD is a good fit for THIS YEAR'S team. It took some thought, but I like the chances with these guys Given Mark Wilson at the helm...

SVB
Corey Deuell
Brandon Shuff
Alex Dominguez
Jeremy Sossei

You can substitute Justin Hall, Justin Bergman, Skylar Woodward for any of the bottom 3 , provided there is just 1 substitution of the original 3

A LOT of TEAM practice and GOOD COACHING prior to arrival in England is key to a successful venture.

Whatever the team: BEST TO TEAM USA !!

I think have heard them all, don't remember hearing SVB but what I have heard seems to me to be guys that really are interested in playing. Going to be a tough choice for Mark.

We might not win without MD, Earl, Archer or Rodney.....but we cant do any worse than last year.
I hope to see this years team restore some honor and dignity, win or lose.

Here we go again. We just keep recycling the Mosconi players list. Maybe we can turn back the hands of time and get some of our past champions to play as sixty somethings. Ain't going to happen. We have to live with what we have now. Pool players are like horses in that they run to their respective form and in their respective class. We just don't have a list of top competitive players anymore. Obviously Shane is the exception but why would anyone want Earl to play? He is going to blow up and poison the rest of the players. We are left with some really good players but not top top speed. I think its best to let Mark Wilson experiment with the line up now while we are playing an away match and let him try to develop that talent needed when we are back home in two years.

Well spoken and a good summary. You will be further encouraged about The Mosconi Cup news on AZ Front Page

I don't see any Mosconi Cup news on the front page.
In the latest news section or anywhere else.

EDIT, now it is in the latest news section.
But it wasn't when you made your post.

Not about what Mark narrowed to..

Because the post was to pick the best 5 to represent the USA, giving them the best chance to win as a team...so that was my pick..there was no talk of "final eight".

I also might have included Schmidt instead of Morris at the time as well, so glad he made the team. previous US Open 9 ball champ, likable guy and someone whoe doesn't take himself too seriously, he will help them at the table and just hanging with the players..like the pick alot.
