Mosconi Cup Unpicked Players Bail Out

If your not upset then why did you say they "bailed out on us" ???

That must be how you see it! Otherwise, you would have worded it differently.

You must have missed the quotations he put around it, or you don't understand the purpose of quotations.

I was never the best student in writing/English class. I came a long way and more to go. We all can't be JAM!

My take on the players not going is that's its ok with all of us. I completely understand not wanting to go. If I didn't make the team it would be very easy for me to say ya I would've went anyway. Truth is that would be very hard to fly to England sit and watch the Mosconi Cup. Now I may have went bc it may have improved my chances of being on next year but trust me none of the players are upset or mad that the 3 "bailed out on us." That's just the way I see it.
If they played one another and got beat in a race to 50, it would be easier to accept for the 3 men out.

Talk about pressure in a set with the Mosconi slot on the line.

As a player how would you feel to never get a chance to "earn/prove " you should be representing your country???

This was one big popularity contest like homecoming king and Queen!

it certainly was memorable, just not profitable.

I'm not sure how it is this year, but they didn't pay our flights. They reimbursed us a few weeks later, and I can see this being a definite deterrent.

I didn't mind paying the flight myself, the only complaint was we didn't get a ride to the airport and had to pay $150. (US) to get to the London airport. It didn't make sense that the other team, and the commentators received transportation, and the USA team did not........bummer, talk about feeling unappreciated. :D There's actually some funny things that happened that morning, it certainly was memorable, just not profitable.

I think you would take the free flight looking for some new action. :grin-square:

For the record, most of us know you should have been on this year's team.

I'm not sure personal popularity is the best way to pick a team, but who knows, stranger things have happened.

There are a lot of really good players these days, however, there's only a few that won't "dog it" under the pressure of London's aggressive fans. I know the last rack I cleared to win the Mosconi Cup was the most pressure I'd ever felt (playing pool).....maybe having Earl Strickland as a partner had something to do with it. ;)

You are one of those type players, Chris - the "powers that be" simply won't recognize what your level really is........yet!

It would be an honor to play for my country .

I have said several times. Let them earn it.

You and Skylar would hurt alot of feelings.

Mr. #2 I am not sure if he is all break/rack rigging? Other aspects of his game concern me. But, if he earns his way on then so be it!

Conjecture

I agree; however, receiving criticism for a decision and being accused of breaking your WORD publicly are two different things.

I consider keeping my word of paramount importance and if someone publicly falsely accused me of breaking my word, there would be a retraction or someone getting knocked out.

Jaden

I don't know that anyone has broken their word, "publicly".

I don't even know if anyone has changed their mind.

The Mosconi Cup and those that are responsible for it have a lot more at stake than just my own selfish interests and that's why I would have gone to support the team, despite my personal and different reasons for thinking about why I wouldn't want to go.

I would have been very reluctant to agree that I would go if I knew it was going to take money out of the players' pockets and would most likely have said so if asked to make a commitment.

There were things said that we will never know about and I'm sure there were things that weren't said, that could have and should have been said that weren't. Most everything discussed here is simply conjecture.

Oscar said he didn't feel right taking a cut of the prize money away from the the other guys. I think that does show class in itself. I know i don't take charity... Heck these guys make a living playing pool so they know its hard enough making money without someone getting a cut of your paycheck. I think the decision not taking the free roll on the other players dime outweighs the "moral support" Its my guess if the players or Wilson REALLY felt they were needed they would all be there backing the other guys.... I'm sure the guys will have plenty of cheerleaders there for them anyway.

What I was saying is that they were publicly (on the forums) being accused of breaking their word...

No it's not all conjecture. I am personal friends with two of the players and have heard from one of them the reasons they decided not to go.

It's not my place to disclose those reasons. I've already said as much.

I just don't like when people use accusatory language about my friends when they don't know what they are talking about. Especially when the guys are as nice as these guys and have as much integrity as these guys do.
