Mosconi Cup Unpicked Players Bail Out

So let me see if I got this right: you don't play, you're not a player, don't got any chance to play, you're not on the team. Did I get that right per your definition because if I did there are a lot of guys wearing Super Bowl rings that weren't on the team and shouldn't be wearing rings like: every member of the active roster; the coaching staff; the entire front office and ownership; the cheerleaders; Injured Reserve and practice squad; even some of the traded players.

Lou Figueroa

Holy cow you must have lost your sense of logic in this posting spam spree you just did. A team consists of staff and eligible players. All those Super Bowl ring wearers you mention were eligible players. Jeremy, Brandon, and Oscar are not eligible to play in England. They are also not selected staff. Does that clarify things up for you? I would hope so, but your just going to come back with a quip about eligibility so you can be relevant still.

The problem is, there is no staff. There are no coaches. The only thing there is Team Captain Mark Wilson and the players. Typically a captain role is filled by a playing member of the team. Matchroom Sports and Mark Wilson have purposely twisted words in order to garner attention for the sport. You can continue being the unethical person you are Lou, but it doesn't change the meaning what eligible is. Twist words some more.

Those weren't "titles", that was humiliation and fcktardery.....

That's basically how I see it. Brandon Shuff being named Special Shots Instructor is as laughable as calling John Brumback a 14.1 coach.

Incase anyone doesn't get it....

Here's what you don't get:

You aren't the MC captain. How you define "team" and how MW defines "team" would appear to differ. But he's MC captain and you are not.

Guess which definition trumps?

Lou Figueroa

So there's now a "special" definition of team? If you will NOT get a chance to compete, you are NOT on the team. If you have to give them token titles because they did NOT make the team, they are NOT on the team.

If they couldn't handle not being selected they shouldn't have agree to participate in the first place.

Lou Figueroa

They handled not being selected just fine. I handled not winning the lottery just fine as well.

Well

Not Really!!!

A player on a baseball, football, basketball, or hockey team gets cut a month before the super bowl. His team makes the bowl. He better be on the bench yelling his team on. Why do I bother. I'm done with this. Johnnyt

OK I hear the Mosconi cup players who were not picked have now bailed out on the team. All of the people interviewed as potential players were asked if you are chosen to be in the potential group but are not on the final team will you still support the team and stick with it so the team can stay together. They all said yes but now they are all backing out.

.

Bottom line it was a bush league tactic to ask someone before being selected. It was a farce. "Oh, by the way, we have not made a selection yet, but of course, if you are not picked you would be willing to be the ultimate team member and show up during the holidays in another country, sitting on a 10 hour flight, with ZERO chance of playing, but just to bring moral support" ???

Anyone, and I mean anyone, who would have said no most likely would have killed their chances of playing (ok, not SVB) but everyone else.

Can you imagine someone trying to get a job promotion, but before they announce it, they say, well, if you are not picked you don't mind coming over the weekend and training the new guy, just to show what a team guy you are. Of course, you say yes.

Now, if he is still your boss, you might not be able to bail without a "cough cough" sick excuse. But, there are not any "bosses" in pool, and it may or many not hurt their chances for next year if Wilson is the Capt again. But, that is their choice, and they probably are assuming that Mr. Wilson is the great and fair guy everyone says he is, and would not dare hold that over them.

All in all, nobody should care except Mr. Wilson, and I have NOT seem him moan or groan about it one time.

And it's quite possible the said yes because they didn't know what they had planned if they were NOT going to be selected. So, everyone chill.

You get cut, you would not be allowed on the bench. You're cut, you're done, that's all she wrote. How does one come back to a team after they are cut, or sent down to the minors ??

I know that. That was the point. I'll spell it out better next time.:p. Johnnyt

They were going as special staff. There are also, to my recollection, two coaches going besides MW.

Bottom line is that the only thing "unethical" going on were guys flaking out after they said they'd go and support the team in a non-playing capacity.

Not a job. Chance to represent your country and support those selected.

In any case, having backed out -- for whatever reason(s) -- it'll be interesting to see how this works out for them in the out years.

Where was the money coming from to finance the extra 5 people? I'd hope not out of the players pockets.

they have to wait 2-3 weeks AFTER the event to get their money

From reading some of the posts It may not be known that the Mosconi Cup players/coach get reimbursed for their flight, and some expenses, however they have to wait 2-3 weeks AFTER the event to get their money.

As I mentioned before we had to pay $150 just to get to the airport from our hotel after the event. For some this may not be a big deal, to others it may be financially challenging.

It's not easy for come players to come up with $2000 to participate in a tournament, especially if they're not performing, and have no chance to be compensated as a competitor.

This is not about "team spirit," the financial part of the agreement is a crucial part of the decision and, in some cases, a HUGE stumbling block.

players hands were so cold they joked about wearing "mosconi cup mittens"

We didn't get "team jackets," and there was very little heat in the facility. At times the players hands were so cold they joked about wearing "mosconi cup mittens". LoL

Wasn't even wearing team colors, just some black leather jacket. Guess he didn't want to be ID'd as a member of the band.

Right.

Red, white, and blue are such tough colors to come by.
