Mosconi Cup USA Team

How strong is this team? is that a lead in for Earl?

I thought it was already decided, why are they taking so long to announce it?

Well said. I'd rather see Buddy Hall play than to put Earl on and have all the drama that comes with him.

Earl is a distraction, even if doesnt start something, he has planted the seeds that will cause problems.

But this isnt about picking the best players, its about trying to draw an audience.

Nuthuggers here outnumber me.

I would prefer to see Corey Dual or others. Imagine what a thrill it would be for a Justin Hall, or Skylar Woodward to compete in this. But once again the NH, want see Earl put on a show (the wrong kind of show).

I just shake my head and know that pool is going the same way as the country....Jerry Springer.

No Earl Please

Let him go to North Korea with Dennis Rodman! He will disrupt the American Mosconi Cup Team unless Dennis and Rodney tell him they will kick his ass if he gets out of line...that probably won't help knowing Earl!

My $

Put me down for Earl, if he is in the right frame of mind he is a leader with experience, and he LOVES America!

Most years of late I say no Earl, but this year he's earned it for sure.

He took Ko Pin Yi to the double hill at the World 10-ball at the Rio in July, he came second to Shane, losing narrowly in the final, in the Steinway Classic in August and in September, he won at Turning Stone.

Earl is on fire right now, and Team USA has a much better shot if he's on the team.

:p

I'm not sure why folks think this is a mystery. Earl and CJ having been talking about this for a couple months now.

Looking forward to it. Go Earl!

According to CJ, Earl was the first one picked for the team. ;)

Right now Earl would obviously be the favorite but I sense there is no love loss between Earl and Matchroom - he's been passed over in recent years - so it may be interesting and BH may be waiting until the US Open is played to give him an opportunity to pick someone else. If it was at York Hall this year then Earl would more probably be picked so the fans could get him started and create a scene. But at the Mirage the fans will be behind him so it would fall more on the players of Team Europe to put him on tilt and run the risk of looking unsportsmanlike.

Give it to someone who has been there. Someone who has won it before.

Someone who....
will act professional
will understand his role
will show good face

Someone who is still young and hungry.....

COREY DEUEL, folks, is a better pick than The Pearl. Go with your brains on this one.
Remember that the SUM of the whole is stronger than the individual parts. This is TEAM ball.
We need to WIN this year, not worry if there is going to be TROUBLE. If we have Earl Strickland as a pick, this is going to give Europe a lot more reason to want to bury us. They HATE HIM. I'm telling you all, don't do it....pick a professional like Mr. Deuel.

Corey is a way better pick then Hatch. I dont think hes a much better pick then Earl.
Taking Hatch over Corey is a disgrace, Hatch has NEVER been in Coreys league.

I'm reminded of the recent Cup when Dennis left himself hooked behind the 9 ball when playing position on the 8...twice.

I'd be really curious to know what the other members of Team USA want.

Do they want Earl, because he is playing well as of late? Or are they concerned that his inevitable outbursts might be more distracting and outweigh the benefit?

It's a rhetorical question as I don't expect Johnny, Buddy, Shane, Rodney, or Dennis to post here on the subject. But I'd love to know their thoughts on it.

In the past, Rodney seemed to be the best partner for Earl. Not only could he match up well with him on the table, but seemed to be able to keep his cool and even calm Earl down. Not always, but more than most.

CJ seems to have confirmed that Earl is on the team, and at some point even Earl had posted about it on his Facebook (did he remove the post?).

Corey Deuel would also be an excellent selection. But Charlie Williams? I hope that was a joke. He might distract the team more than Earl, LOL...

I'm reminded of how much Dennis got roasted on the forums for those mistakes. Aside from those mistakes, he played lights out and was a great team motivator. Definitely deserves another shot.

Hatch played poorly in last year's Mosconi Cup, not just in one match. He's a great player, but does not play as well as Corey Deuel nor does he have as much Mosconi Cup experience as Deuel. I wish Dennis well, but how he was selected over Deuel is a total mystery to me. Nonetheless, I hope that, through his performance, he'll make me look silly for having posted this.

its poltics. if you or anyone else thinks archer isnt behind the picks your.nuts.
Only 5 players playing in america have the credentials to be worthy of reppin the u.s.a.

Hatch is a regional tour champ, that about sums his pool career up.

I would be disappointed if Earl didn't make the team
I have no problem with the other candidates but I hope Earl gets the spot.

Earls a definite. Theres no mystery left.
They knew 3 of the players months ago.
SVB, ARCHER, EARL.

If anyone thinks otherwise , I'll lay them 2/1 on the money.

In his defense, he is 7/10 (70% winning percentage) in Mosconi Cup play. Last year, he wasn't the only American player to wilt, that's for sure.

Can't argue against Corey Deuel, though!

Would you prefer to see Deuel instead of Strickland for the final spot?

I like Corey Deuel's game.....I call him the 'American Reyes.

But Hatch and the Pearl are better TV..

Don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but for anyone thinking about going... my wife and I were chatting at dinner tonight about attending the MC this year -- you know: the team looks strong, fly out to Vegas, see some friends, watch the matches, a few shows, eat well, gamble a bit, have a few yucks.

Soooo, I go to look at tickets and it turns out they've booked the MC for Monday through Thursday... WTFIWT?!

Needless to say we shan't be flying out.
