Most Grippy Leather Wrap

I find linen wraps way too slippery and am planning to replace the linen wraps on all my cues with leather wraps. I was wondering what type of leather would provide the most grip. Any recommendations on where to get wraps changed would also be appreciated.

Just some food for thought. You can apply some Butchers wax or similar product to your linen wrap. Let it dry and buff and it leaves a tacky sort of feel without doing any harm to the wrap. I have done it dozens of times over the years and had people happy with the new feel. Just something to think about.

Just get a rubber sleeve wrap and roll it on. That's as grippy as you're going to find and you don't have to pay for a rewrap.

I feel the same way about linen wraps. I found that I get the best grip from a wrapless cue. Never slips in my hand and I get a direct "feel" of the CB.

In the dry desert, leather needs more attention. Leather takes LONGER to warm and get tacky in Many situations. That alone made me sell my Zam., but I didn't realize this for quite some time. I prefer linen, and have added paraffin and bled it Out before with a hair dryer. to increase tack.

I have never seen a Kangaroo, (ok, I have seen them but only pictures), but take it that it would be a soft supple wrap.

I have a couple of softer lamb skin wraps in stock so thinking that a leather that is softer
would be what you are wanting.

Other than that, making your linen tackier would be the cheapest way to go.

I did try applying wax paper but still wasn't able to get it as grippy as I would like. Maybe a different wax would have worked better but I think I'm just getting tired of having to deal with linen wraps.

Kangaroo. Have it installed by Ryan at Muellers.

Here's my Josswest with kangaroo, it's pretty tacky. Hope all is well Ray. Heard the was a radiation leak in New Mexico.

Does anybody have any experience with a stingray wrap? I'm considering getting one sometime soon and think this may be good for Grip.

just curious why are you griping the cue that tight really bad for your mechanics and stroke
My experience was that my leather wrap was very slippery when it got dry and I hadn't waxed it in a while and then I'd have to grip the butt tightly on power shots or my hand would slip. Rubber (or no wrap) allows you to grip lightly and get power without tightening your grip much. Linen can have the same problem as leather. Neither is well-suited to the task, but I think linen is worse.

Through years of play and buildup, the dirt/sweat tack is hard to beat with linen, and never needs cleaning. Many times during match play, I only wash my bridge hand depending on conditions, the back hand stays outta the pond.

Holly Skippers .. Kangaroo Wrap, that's a new one for me.

Would you say that it is tackier than a stacked leather wrap? Would you say it is softer than a genuine bull hide wrap? Is this the ultimate wrap for a jump cue? :D

How does it compare to other more common leather wraps?

I have a cue with a linen wrap that I need to have rewrapped and was thinking stacked.

I prefer the softest most tacky grip possible.

Thanks in advance.

You seem set on switching to leather, but maybe you could try a good quality beeswax first just to be sure. I used it on my linen wrap and went from disliking it to loving it. I rubbed it on thick and rubbed it off with an old t-shirt until it felt just right. I can put a decent stroke on the ball now with a very loose and relaxed grip, which is how I prefer to shoot.

The micro teeth are killing my hand!!!

Tiger Stacked Leather Wrap is a nice less slippery option and it looks amazing
Embossed leather is good too, more grippy than the stacked leather
Monitor Lizard is more grippy still
Elephant ear is very grippy and feels alot more like leather with teeth
Stingray and shark skin are the most grippy, there are actually micro teeth biting your hand

No matter wha tyou decide on, get someone that knows their stuff to install it or you will be very sorry.

Good luck.

My cowhide "Stingray" and (usually) elephant ear have excellent grip and are very comfortable. I have stingray on my own break cue and I have elephant ear on 2 of my players. Some cuts of elephant ear have more aggressive "bite" than others. Elephant ear users will relate. Other wraps suggested also have good grip but the ones I mentioned stand out, IMO. Martin
