My heart sais yes, bid! But my head sais no.

i emailed him and gave him barrys number.he has emailed me back so who knows? i told him to get barry to verify it.he said he would.he said he found it on a shelf in his dads house...but,unless he had the oringal box how the hell would a non player(as he says he is)would even know who made it?or how to spell his last name?seems kinda fishy to me...."if its to good to be true...it usually is!!".
i guess we'll find out....

I believe and i am by no means an expert that you have to wait atleast a year to sell something that was left to you in a will. Seems like i heard that before. And he says that his dad died a few months ago? Plus it seems fishy that he said he had no idea his dad played pool. If his dad had that cue pool would be a "BIG" part of his Dad's life... JMHO. And on top of that he has zero feedback RED flags all over that sell.

And he uses the term,"easily a 9 out of 10".
Thats something you hear on AZ often when a seller is describing a cue but for a guy who claims he has no interest in pool, where'd he get that from?

Let's say the cue is a real Gus and the buyer has zero feedback. If the seller would be willing to use an escrow service I would do the deal. I know the zero feedback runs off a lot of folks to include myself sometimes. But there are tools out there for us to utilize to ensure nobody get's screwed. Proficient billiards runs an excellent escrow service.

I am not saying this cue is the real deal. All I'm saying is that if a cue is on ebay or somewhere else and you know it's real......use an escrow service. It's easy. If the seller declines the escrow service than no deal.

I think it's a scam all the way. For the reasons mentioned above, but also because he's had an Ebay account for a whopping 9 days. It looks like a nice hit and run affair with someone that most likely has multiple accounts. Just my opinion.

Too good to be true?

It could be the old a Szam scam.
Selling a Szamboti cue with zero feedback is fishy to me too.
Nice cue though.

I can't imagine someone's dad having a Szamboti cue and the son not knowing about it or be into pool himself.
Even people that aren't into pool at all, know about their dad's or great granddad's that were pool players.

Maybe someone here on AZ will recognize the cue.
That's happened many times when the pics are lifted from a previous sale, or gallery somewhere.

I am with you fellers. I say scam. Too many things that just dont jive. I would stay clear of this one. Just my .02.

First off, "And he uses the term,"easily a 9 out of 10".
Thats something you hear on AZ often when a seller is describing a cue but for a guy who claims he has no interest in pool, where'd he get that from?"...

This is just retarded. Like there is no other collectable gradeable group of items in the world! Sheeit, even if there weren't haven't us fellas been using that system for grading the hotties walking by our caves since the dawn of speech?

Anyway, with smoking-pipe hanging from semi-clenched teeth, magnifier perched high in front, I would say, run motherfockers! Now, don't get me wrong, this guy might be rock solid...

Little digging brought these random bits of info, ALTHOUGH THEY MAY BE UNRELATED TO SELLING PARTY;

Next, from a very recent Craigs List post:

I need everyone's help with this one. I had some cleveland cg4 tour irons on craigs list and had gotten a call. So I met up with the interested party last Friday night September 12th. Talked for a little bit and the guy seemed to be a stand up kind of guy. Foolishly I took a check from him. Of course when I go to the bank to cash the check there weren't enough funds to cover the check. So I called him and told him the check didn't cover. He had said he would go to his bank and get the cash from his bank and meet up with me. Well I waited for over an hour and he never showed up. The person's name is FRANK WIELANDER and the his phone number is 520-560-4530. DO NOT SELL ANYTHING TO THIS GUY!!!!!!!!!!! If you know who he is or how I can find him please contact me @ 480-785-5698, AND LEAVE A MESSAGE. Please help me with this. If there are any cops or detectives ouT there that have access to information would be a BIG help."

Also, this tidbit could pertain to the same, or said person allgedly dead pops:

I may have seen that cue for sale at classiccues.com some time ago... It was saying: Gus Szamboti cue with Rare Birdseye Backend or something like that. It went for 12k maybe. I could be wrong so bare with me but I am 85% sure.

Agreed, Killer. And the photo itself look familiar too... could swear I just saw it recently (or poss similar cue).

OK, I knew what to do :D

I did a search in JV's threads and look what I found on page 5!!!!

That very same picture of the forearm that is listed on ebay and although the buttsleeve's picture is from a different angle it is the SAME CUE!

I just screwed a Scam-Artist's day I believe!! :)

Have a nice day!

Someone ought to scam this guy in return. Someone should bid like $2000 on the Szamboti, LOL, and then when there is like 1 day left retract the bid, using item description as the reasoning.

Could teach him a lesson real quick.

I love this site. I really had no intention of bidding, but I love to
see you guys come up with stuff and to be honest, some of the
remarks are hilarious.

How about telling the seller that we're close to his location and would like to see the cue in person...let's see if we get a response. I'm all over it...

Already ahead of ya there. I sent an email thru ebay asking if I could
pick it up locally. I also asked how he knows if its a Gus. Here is a
copy and paste below of his whole emailed reply.

Dom sorry the Cue will be shipped. You can Always get next day, No Offense
