My $ Pool Wins and Losses for 2009

Well my winnings for pool this past year totaled just around $8,000 and my losses just over $1,000. I know it's not good enough to get on the money list but not bad for a B player who keeps his gambling at a lower level. I play 20-100 a set in 9 ball and 10-50 a game one pocket, once in awhile I might play for more but not often, the most I played for in a single game of one pocket was $200.

So basically for every $80 I win I lose $10. I do wish I could have hit the 10K mark but it was not to be as I do not really bet it up. Does anyone else keep track of their wins and losses for the year and what was your winnings/losses? I doubt I will keep track this year but it was fun to do so I could see as opposed to just guessing.

Great Job Lenny on your wins :thumbup2:

I didnt keep track of my winnings last year...I am guessing maybe 4000.00. I dont really gamble, that is just from local tournaments.

This year I am going to keep track. Jan 2-3rd I played in a 4-10 rated tourney at Magoos, I got 3rd and won 50.00. evening of the 3rd I played in a local tourney and won 185.00 for 1st, last night I played in a scotch doubles tourney and won 125.00. So 5 days into the new year and I am ahead 360.00.

There is a bar tournament within about 25 miles of my house every night of the week. I am gonna try and hit at least 4 of them a week and also play in the bigger monthly tournaments at Magoos. Or I will be going to bigger tourneys and playing. Honestly though, if I stay around here, I can win more money, but if I go to the bigger tourneys I will get more experience and that is what I am wanting. My goal by the end of the year is to be rated a 9 at Magoos

I think I lost somewhere around $20k and I can't remember what I won, think I went 0-Life this year. Maybe in 2010 I'll win enough to by a pack of cigs and a shot of cognac.

Beats the casino and you probably had more enjoyment.

I keep a lot of records on things that many think are useless. That is how I got the name TheBook. I always carry a book and keep track of many things that I feel are important. Years later someone will ask me something and I just laugh and say I will look it up in my book.

Years ago a guy I worked with was a horse racing fanatic. He would go to the track every day. He said if he broke even he had a good year.

How many hours do you think you played doing that?

Who paid for the table time? Was that considered in you wins and loss amount?

Hopefully this year will be just as good or even better for you.

I am not sure how many hours to be honest, most sessions are about 2-4 hours I would think. I do not pay time fortunately where I play so no table time unless I pay the losers time which is a courtesy but in a way I am giving up odds on the money.

ive done a pool journal off and on for 20 years. A few suggestions for ya. Try to write detailed notes about who you played and how the matches went down. You will allow yourself to always remember how you played someone and how the game went down. It helps alot to improve and to match up. Also, 10 years later those notes will refresh your memory and are also powerful tools to reinforce positive thinking when your in a tough jam on the table. Jimmy Reid talks alot about this in no time for negative. He tries to remember all the details of the moments he was in dead stroke and calls upon those moments when he needed it most in matches. Reid talks about filling your mind with the subtle details of the way you feel, the sounds around you, the smells...everything. when you feel like you have that moment he "anchors" the moment with a movement, like touching your middle finger and your thumb. The idea is to use that anchor to assist you in recalling the moments to calm you and to help you come with the shot in the present.

Sorry to diverge a bit from your thread, but the gambling journal you are discussing has other ways to be useful than just as a means of keeping score on your wins and losses.

My tournament play has been okay with about a dozen or so cashes this year but to be honest I play a tournament usually once a week and also broadcast it so my full attention is not on but more to be there supporting it. I do plan on trying to be more competitive in tournament play this year and practicing harder to move up to the next level.

Within a year or 2 I hope to be an A player and that is something that would mean more to me then money. I am rated an 8 in AZ which is respectable but to be an A player you need to be rated a 9. I think for me to move to the next level I need to get a table to practice on when I want as opposed to driving to the poolhall and then I am approached to play or find a game when my intention was to just go practice.

Thanks for posting this, for the most part I have a good memory and anyone who I played I know exactly how we played and how much usually changed hands even if it was from years back, strange stuff I know. I do think keeping track of say how many games we traded before I either won or lost along with the spot and date along with who it was would be a good idea and I might get a little pad to keep in my case for notes such as this along with drawings of shots on the other pages.

I think I've lost about $6,000.00 for the year and maybe won two or three thousand dollars but that doesn't inlcude my expenses.

I'm still willing to lose a little more although not much more because the little lady is starting to look at my account a little closer.

So for what it's worth, I like to play one pocket in the $30-$200 a game range and will play for more if I KNOW I have a good game.

Like most of the Bravehearts that wait on the sidelines, barking fearlessly, until someone offers them a game they can't lose at, I too, will play for more if I am stealing fo' shizzle.

If I get you stuck and I know I am in a good game, you have a chance to win some of your money back by raising the bet.

If I am not tired, you can win it all back the same way you lost it.

I don't woof feverishly for someone else to play in my stead.

Bless those who would like to change my losing ways.

(Lenny, I predict you are going to have to move or raise the bet to get to $10K---Your reputation is in the street!)

Joey, I'll try you a little getting 11-5. You still may be stealing but I'd try it for a few c-notes anyway.

Before you accuse me of stealing, ask around for my speed and you may beat a trail to North Georgia, lol.

How come you don't have to pay pool time?

I just had to chime in when I see you say you wouldn't mind losing a little more. I wouldn't mind relieving you of a little bit of that little more. (:
