Name 5 things that make a great pool player great?

No particular order

1. The ability to execute any shot at any time
2. Mental fortitude
3. Superb fundamentals
4. Hunger/ Desire
5. Problem solving and creative thinking

Knowledge
Solid, repeatable Fundamentals
Conviction
Never say die attitude (competitive spirit)

Enzo was talking with Phil Hill in reference to the Ferrari F-40.

"This car is so fast it will make you s**t your pants."

That Daytona you have pictured makes me want to poop my pants just sitting still!

Solid Fundamentals (aim,stroke,etc)
Advanced Skills (banks,kicks,leave)
Vision/Creativity
Winning Attitude
Social Skills

Hardwork - definitely need to put a tremendous amount of hours on the table

Dedication - stick to it ness

Competetiveness - the desire to seek challenges and win

Focus - the ability to concentrate on the task and block distractions

Heart - never say die attitude

For this sport?

1. devil-may-care attitude (about the big picture)
2. knowledge seeking curiosity that might kill nine cats (or one cat with nine lives)
3. laser sharp focus (on the small picture)
4. keen determination and ability to adapt on the fly
5. another dash of knowledge, mixed in with a touch of killer instinct
6. ability, ability, ability
7. practice, practice, practice
8. execution no matter the circumstance

More than 5, but never was good at following instructions.

Meaning, what are the 5 things that make a great pool player great! In your opinion. Style, form, stance, stroke, safeties, position play, and other things. Thanks for your input.

1. Don't have teeth.
2. Pick his nose.
3. No talk, just smiles.
4. Take our money.
5. ALWAYS LUCKY.

Imagination
Faith in themselves
Discipline
Objectivity
The ability to overcome reality (credit to Fran Crimi for this one)

1. he has the ability to pocket everything (balls + our money)
2. he can play some shots in a crazy way that ppl would never think of (Efren Reyes)

Open-Mindedness -- Ability to at least listen to all information before filtering out. Many good players do not become great because they refuse to deviate from what they think they know.

Heart -- Have to fight when fight needs to be there. Need to believe in oneself when no one else can help them. Gotta be able to step up to play better players to get better as a pool player.

Obsession -- The best of the best hone in their skills by practicing until they don't miss a particular shot. Why does Shane have the best break? Because he starts out his practice routine by breaking for 2 hours. From the book Rags to Rifleman, Buddy Hall's game was said to have jumped a level when he drempt about a new bridge. Most of the top pro's have goals of becoming the best in the world. The best way to get good at something is to become so obsessed with it that's all you think about (even when you are sleeping).

Knowledge -- Understanding and learning fundamentals of the game physically and on the table is vital to success. Top pro's some how manage to get more pinpoint position and play higher percentage shots. Understanding how to hit certain shots in certain situations may increase percentage in that run out. Knowledge is power.

Experience -- Experience builds mental fortitude. Experience extends further knowledge about the game mentally and physically. Being able to cope and adapt with different situations is key into overall success. It brings greater understanding of pattern play, safety play and reinforces muscle memory. Gotta pay your dues before becoming a great pool player.
