Names you thought should have been on IPT list

I thought it would be interesting to put out the question of who you thought should have been on that list. I think it is valid not to only pick based on playing ability, but also personality and the IPT's ability to market these people. We all don't exactly know what his marketing strategy is yet, and how he is going to make this successful where other tours have failed. It is obvious he did use some other judging criteria other than just ability.

I haven't read all the thread but "Jimmy Reid" was a fromer 8 ball champion and it is one of his best games. I can't believe him not being chosen if he had applied.

Mike rarely enters anything other than his own events. How many US Opens has he played in in the last 10 years?
He hasnt really shown much desire to compete imho.

Maybe that is it but more likely there is a history with Mike and Mike from the straight pool days.

It does not matter how many U S Open's Mike has played in. Mike has also won a World 14.1 Championship (he entered even tho the PBT boycotted it at that time. I believe he beat Oliver ortman in the finals). Mike has done alot for pool and is a great ambassador for the game. Please don't take this next statement wrong but they picked Adam Wheeler to play. I have known Adam for about 12 years since he used to live up here near Albany. I agree that he is an "A" player but he gets picked over other top players. Adam is a real nice guy and a pleasure to talk to. But to be picked ahead of players like Mike Zuglan and Teddy Garrahan is beyond me. Could it be because he is from Florida now and would be closer than the other 2 players i have mentioned..................................Mike

BOBALOU? Where's BOBALOU on the list?

Not sure where he ended up but he ws the one that put me out. He played pretty decent in our match and I could never get going. I am not much of a threat to win the thing (yet) but I have placed a couple times.
Race to 5 or 4 can be tough but most of the time even then the cream rises.

Not many people know of Lorry but the guy can play.

I watched Oscar play a couple matches and he was playing well. Fach has
been hitting them well lately also.

Rudedog you need to try and get over for one of the monthly at Hardtimes or
the every other month events at Shooters.

Sigel was definately gifted the $150,000, it was spoon fed to the guy. I have never seen anything that states Sigel is for sure automatically in the finals of this first event. If someone shows me where that is for sure, or if it ends up we find out that it is indeed true when the tourney happens, then I agree as well that it is a joke in the extreme that a guy beats a washed up retired former pro female for $150,000 and then to top it off is gifted the finals of the next event for another smoking payday. I REALLY hope the rumor mill on Sigel being already in the finals is wrong because that is a sham in the extreme.

Celtic, Mike is guaranteed to be in the finals of the next tournament. While everyone is going to bust their butts vying for the first prize money, Sigel will be calmy waiting for his next big payday (although his "King of the Hill Title could be taken away). I can't imagine going to a PGA event and watching a guy fire a 90 and excuse it by saying, "well, he's a nice guy though and he's good with the crowd".

You can't? By chance have you ever heard of a guy named Arnold Palmer? The last time I checked he couldn't really run with the big dogs over at Bay Hill. Doesn't mean he's still not the King and has every right to be in the tournament.

Yeah that information was not on the main page when I made my post. Now that it is official my stance is not changed, I think it is pretty lame and he is being gifted yet a second time. If he manages to lose the finals I will have to laugh, I have lost quite abit of respect for Mike with this format. He is supposed to be this serious competitor who thinks he is the best yet he is being carried through the thing getting what amounts to little less then a gigantic spot over the entire field. He is no "King" for beating LJJ, any of the top 30 men in the world would have walked over her as well. Pretty weak way to start the tour, I still think it is alot better then nothing though and Mike cannot be carried forever, he is going to have to sink or swim sooner or later and the tour will begin to build ranking systems and earnings to declare who the truely top players are. Mike just gets a head start as lame as that is... I guess he does not figure he can play with the top players "straight up" anymore.

I'd like to make it down there EVERY month, but I just can't. My past seems to haunt me for some reason and asking/begging for permission every month isn't in my nature. Plus, my lack of practice time doesn't help either. :( After the new year, I'll be able to make more trips. Until April 3rd, 2008, I'm stuck with this dilemma. But after that, WATCH OUT! :D

Missing on the list:

Frankie Hernandez
Jose Garcia
Robby Saez

Others worthy of consideration:

Alan Rolon
Jason Cruz
Julio Aquino
Eric Gonzalez
Edgardo Ramirez
Miguel Laboy

Some of these players may be unknown to those not in the East Coast but they were all worthy of being included.

Alan Rolon for instance is 5 time Puerto Rico National Champion, and a two-time and current Panamerican Champion 2004 and 2005 (South America - 17 countries).

Jason Cruz two-time 3rd Place finish in the BCA Jr. Championships, 5th Place Jr. World Pool Championships in Taiwan, and 2-time consecutive ACUI Champion and runner-up at the 3rd ACUI Championship he participated.

Julio Aquino is tearing the Fury Florida Tour and is capable of beating any of those included in the IPT List.

Eric Gonzalez and Edgardo Ramirez are past national Puerto Rico Champions and could easily have great wins against those listed.....

and Miguel Laboy and up and coming Puerto Rican player who finished 33rd in the recent US Open, could have a "field day" with many of the listed players.

Definitely, the IPT selection committee did not do their homework. I'm not saying all these players should have been selected but at least two-thirds of those listed should have made it.

It seems we will have to "wait and see" if the IPT makes it through the first year.....

4-3-08 will be here before you know it. Until then stay safe. By then the
IPT will be like the PGA tour and you will be the comeback story of the year :D Prise Purses will be around 750,00 to a mil.
Heck even by then Shooters and Hardtimes will be 1050 added but only if 200 show ;)

What about Charlie 'the HillBilly' Bryant? This guy has many top 5 finishes and a personality (if that is what some people think matters) greater than many on the list.

where is Kelly Fisher

I was glad to see some women chosen to compete, but rather dissapointed that Kelly Fisher did not make the list. I think her credentials are undeniable, her game is quick and fun to watch, and she is incredibly personable and easy to talk to. I hope this oversight won't happen again.

Her name is on the list right below Allison Fisher.

This is just my opinion. Some of the top 9 ball players in the world may not be a top rated 8 ball player right now. There is a difference between the 2 games. I have seen a lot of great bar table 9-ball players get beat senseless playing 8-ball, by someone who is unknown in the 9-ball world. Should probably get the 7 playing 9-ball. Then, figure in the slow cloth, some of those top players are going to struggle for a while. This is my prediction--- The first 2 years, you will see a lot of the "unknown" players do some damage in the tournaments. They all got invited for a reason. Some because they Know people, Some because they play at world class speed, Some because they are in the Hall of Fame. Everyone playing will be there for one reason, to build our sport to a respectable level. I wish all of them the best. Especially {the Underdogs} that sneak up on the champions. Sam

Kelly made the overall IPT list, but did not make it into the first tournament. I should have clarified what I was speaking about.

Some players I would also liked to have seen on the list.
Past Embassy World 8 ball champion Chris Melling, he would have been a threat to win an event.

Sandor Tot past European 8 ball champion, Andreas Roschowsky, Vilmos Foldes, Tony Drago etc.

Shane Van Boning...should be on the list....i am sure he will get there....never seen him play 8-ball on a big table....but his bar box 8-ball game is brilliant to say the least......also jesse bowman........

Did Shane fill out a form?

Your role within the IPT

Dino, I heard that you had something to do with the selection of the IPT players.

Could you elaborate on what criteria was used to select the 150 current players, and what criteria was used to select the 42 players for the next IPT event?
