Need Help Getting Cue Returned From Martyne Bachman

In April, right after the Expo, I sent a cue to Martyne Bachman that was to be photographed to appear in the May or June Billiards Digest in the Wand Workshop section. She received the cue on April 14th and we traded a few emails that day. One of the emails said I would have the cue back early the next week.

It is now August and I still do not have the cue. I also have not received a response to my emails or phone calls to Martyne. The cue had been sold prior to sending it for photographs, but the Buyer wanted it to be in the magazine. We had no idea it would end up like this. He has been more than patient and both of us were against making this public, but it seems at this point we have no choice.

He has also made several phone calls and sent several emails to both martyne and the other email address at chalkers.com. Neither have replied. Nor have they replied to another AZer who set this up for me.
Billiards Digest was also no help. Their only response was:

Hey *****, the best chance to contact Martyne might be at the addresses/numbers listed on her website:
http://www.chalkers.com/id174.htm

Due to various circumstances, we have not run a Wand Workshop since our April issue, and we have no plans to revisit the section in the near future.

Sorry I cannot be of more help. Good luck.

We were starting to think that she dropped off the face of the earth, until another member here inquired about a cue on her website. She responded quickly and they traded three or four emails. When they had agreed on a price on the cue, she emailed him payment instructions. His reply to her (on Friday) was:

Hi - Thanks for quick response. I will make payment when Tony Zinzola has notified me that he has possession of the ebony butt that was sent to you months ago.

I will not buy a cue from you until this situation has been resolved. If you don't own the cue, return it. You of all people know how small this community is and while I don't know ALL of the details, I understand that this is not a good situation for a dealer to be in and made public.
I'll contact you to move forward once this issue is resolved.

He has not received a response from her since then.

At this point, I don’t know what else to do but make this public and hopefully people can put enough pressure on her to return the cue. I’ve already started a new one for the Buyer, but he will have to wait quite a while for something he should have had months ago if she doesn’t return this.

If anybody knows her, please help me get my cue back.

Thanks

Tony, I hope you get resolution from this situation but, I have feeling things will have to be handled by the law. The gentleman, I sell cues for also had the Spider cast one of her Webb's in his direction. She saw his cues and promised to include them in one of her articles. However, he had already heard about her dishonest business practices from other cue makers who she screwed / attempted to screw. So he offered to send her Photo's for the article, but she claimed that the photo's were not good enough to use, because she was trying to get something for nothing like she had done in the past. This broad doesn't do anything for free, and you are not the first person to fall in to her trap, I am surprised she has been getting away this this shit so long. I mean it is kinda a well know fact throughout the Billiards community she is dishonest.

After she screwed Brad Simpson on the Blue Book of Cues deal a few years back, which also caused the book to be delayed for two additional years, I though that most people new how worthless she is. I like the way Brad politely outs her in the beginning of the Third Edition of the Blue Book, the guy has class I certainly would have named places and names. I say to hell with Chalkers.Com, I hope this news spreads and I hope that Chalkers.com suffers over this crap. I will never order anything for my Business from them after this even if she makes it right, I hope that others follow suit and Boycott that place. It appears that some people do not understand how small the world really is.

Tony, again I hope everything works out, I am really sorry to hear about this.

Respectfully

People it seems are becoming more scummy the worse the economy gets, beg, borrow and steal from whomever. I hope you get your cue back!

Wow, did not know that the owners had this reputation..
I'll drop the link to the page from my links page.

Since she knew that her article in BD was being cancelled prior to you sending the cue I feel she ripped you off.

Although this may seem harsh I would file a police report and file charges for "Theft by Deception" or something similuar to that. You never granted here credit to sell the cue since it was for photographic purposes only. If here business closed she could stiff all of here creditors and they couldn't do anything about it. She could still sell all of the cues afterwards. In your case however see commited a fraud and could be easily proven since you didn't send the shafts with the cue.

I wouldn't be patience anymore. Its time to go after her with criminal charges since she was going to sell the cue to another person without your consent or knowledge. Tell her to return the cue immediately or you with file a police report and proceed with criminal charges.

I met up with the member who had initially set this up for me last weekend and he said that was what we were going to do (file a police report).

I never intended on posting anything here, but after she stopped responding to a customer when he mentioned my cue, I decided I may as well start here.

She will probably have some excuse that it was the weekend and she doesn't check her email. I doubt that's the case. If she's running a business and people contact her through email, I'm sure she sees them. I was out of town all weekend and it took me less than 30 minutes to reply to most of my emails.

I received a few emails & pm's from some cuemakers saying basically the same thing.

Couldn't agree more, unfortunately (and I understand your hesitency) it's time to take legal action. Unless this is "somehow" a misunderstanding I will not do business with them (or even visit the Chalkers web page) and I urge others to do the same until this issue is resolved. Good luck Tony and please keep us informed!

After having no problems on a Richard Black purchase, I had a horrible experience dealing with her on the Balabushka I bought. Took months (instead of the promised few days) to get the paperwork that went with the cue. She quit responding to my calls & emails until I started calling every day, 10 times a day, including many weekend & middle of the night calls. She also likes to promise that stuff will arrive via FedEx the next day & then not ship your stuff. Pulled that one on me 3 different times, had me waiting around for FedEx all day, for nothing.

In the end, I told her that not only would I let everyone know what she was pulling, but that I would also be at the ICCS show (which she attends) & would let everyone there know what kind of person she was. She finally sent my stuff. :o

Since then, I wouldn't buy ice water from her in hell, much less another pool cue.

If you don't have your cue back by the ICCS show, I would definitely attend it. I'm sure she'll be there, allowing you to confront her in a room full of people she counts on to make money. :thumbup2:

this is a federal matter also. Mail fraud because the cue leeft the state...it is a federal matter..........bust here ass.

This thread is overwhelming..... Tony, I really hope that you'll get the cue back.
You should not apologize for making it public, we need to know about these things so we can stay a way from such people and direct our business towards the good people of our small community and the billiards industry.

I never intended on posting anything here, but after she stopped responding to a customer when he mentioned my cue, I decided I may as well start here.

Tony,
Check your PMs. I am NOT the customer you are referring to but am a friend of his. I also inquired once or twice about cues on her site (via email) and received pretty prompt responses. Once I mentioned YOUR cue, all of a sudden she was stone silent.

I have emailed her a few times since to see if I can get ANY kind of response and have even called, but still, she is silent.

I wish you the best of luck. Its just a shame it had to go down this way.

One thing I can tell you is, from talking with several friends, its become more than clear that this is NOT out of the ordinary for her. Apparently, she has made a few questionable decisions before.

Needless to say, I would advise everyone to steer clear of the Chalkers.com website. The less business Martyne gets, the better for everyone.

Stop wondering about no shafts- There's How many aftermarket Shafts that screw on in Seconds. Mark I'm putting the Bad Karma on you now Martyne Bachman!!!!

I fully understand this, however to a collector, the cue doesn't have near the value unless it's "complete"....

If I remember correctly Sue and Martyne are sisters.

Dick

They are they same person....

This sort of things should be put in public. We on AZB should be working together for the good of the community. I've been a victim as well (not by Chalkers or her). Tony and Cedric, you've got patience and tact in handling this situation. Rep to both of you.

I hope that you get your cue back Tony. This is a sad situation and I hope it gets resolved soon.

Cuephorie If you get location in the Great Lakes notify Me. I'll Goggle the Earth and Ring the Doorbell. Drive and fly to Tony's Shop or send Tony the Cue. its true that some aftermarket shafts might fit on it but since tony has his own unique joint, the hit would be completely different. and i dunno why anyone would want a cue that nice only to stick a predator or something similar on it.

and the thing about it isnt that u cant find shafts to fit on it, rather im not sure how she can sell it without the shafts. tony has his own unique joint configuration and clearly the cue is brand new so why would it not have any shafts. if i saw a cue with a special joint like tony's and it didnt have any shafts i'd just assume that there's something fishy going on. it would be hard to believe that something happened to the shafts while the butt itself is in mint condition. it's like finding a brand new layani without shafts. i'd have to ask what happened to them. if the cue was used then thats a different story but for a brand new cue with a unique joint and no shafts i'd question where the cue came from.

A bad economy is no excuse for dishonesty. Choosing to lie or steal is a conscious decision made by each individual who engages in such practices.

Hi Cedric, no other Shafts fits on Tony's piloted radial Pin:D
hope you get your nice Batman Cue back, I have four Shafts for you (Joke:p)

The joint isn't a big issue. Any cuemaker can make a shaft for it. I honestly don't think the intention was to steal the cue. It's still needs a few more hours work on my part before it's ready to go. My first thought was that she forgot about it, but with all the emails and phone calls she's gotten from you, I doubt that's the case. Maybe something happened to it. I really don't have a clue.
