Need Vegas trip advice...

I'm thinking about going to Vegas this year for the big pool tourney. It looks like the BCAPL is from May 12th-22nd. Then the VNEA is from May 27th- June 5th.

I don't play in any leagues so I would only be able to play in random 'open' tournaments. Mostly going to check out all the vendors, matches, and action.

When is the best time to go? Any nearby hotels recommended since I'm sure the Riviera will be booked. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

The VNEA will require that you play in the league and gain enough weeks to play in Vegas. The BCAPL has a division for open (non-league) players as long as you are a member or become one. To play in the team events, you will need to have played in a league with a certain number of weeks.

The Riv probably isn't sold out yet. Pool players on the general are a procrastinating bunch  There really are not any super quality rooms near the Riv, so I would stay there unless you drive or rent a car. Plus it's nice to be able to put your cue in your room after the match.

OK, sounds like the BCA is more of what I'm looking for. So, no pro player events to watch then?

Yea, a $25 membership is required and then you can play in the Player Member event for the BCAPL. It's a singles event for players who cannot play on a league.

Here are the details to get your entry fee in by the deadline.

There are two pro events going on - the Masters and the US Open 10 Ball Championship - during the week of the BCAPL tournament. In addition, many pros play in the Grand Master division.

With your 25$ membership you can play in the Player Member and the Nine Ball Challenge. I am in the same boat as there are not any BCA leagues close enough to me to play in. I will be playing in these 2 events.
I Have been there the last 5 years it is a Blast. I HIGHLY reccommend not missing this event.

Good Luck,
Darin

....and the Riviera will not be sold out. If you want to book a room, give them call and do so.

My wife booked rooms for us this year at the Riv thru Expedia.
Much cheaper than just calling the Riv. Average at $50 a day.
I like the second half of the VNEA. Team play and make sure you get to the Chips and Suds Extravaganza on Monday night.
Without a VNEA sanction card, you'll be able to play the mini tourneys.
I don't know about the BCAPL but after the tourney is done at the VNEA, you can hop on a table and play until the morning.
