never again (until it's fixed)

Been talking up my Delta 13 rack at a weekly pool tournament so thought I would take it so the other players could see how well it works.Of course I knew it was noisy but on my home table was no problem. It was like a bunch of small kids seeing who could make the most noise---and they did banging the balls on every rack seeing who could be the loudest. All agreed the rack was a lot tighter than the house racks but before I take it back I will have modified it with the inserts. Give a kid a new toy (any age) and they will play.

I like how well they rack but with the noise they make I would never own one. I don't like the idea of having to buy inserts for a rack that costs that much. It should come as good as it can be right out of the box. Does any of the owners like the racket they make (pun intended)?

Can you imagine a whole poolhall full of that noise? Too noisy for me. I dont care how tight the rack is. Theres gotta be another way.

We certainly appreciate the players that have taken the time and effort to speak up about the different sound the Delta-13 line creates during the racking process. I can only assume that you are not a distributor or manufacturer for another ball rack...that you
truly feel that the sound a ball rack makes is your top reason for not using a Delta-13. As such, I'd like to challenge your thought process a bit.

Over the years, we have spoken with hundreds of people regarding the features they want in a rack. Here is what we've been told:

1. Players want a rack that will provide a consistent tight rack, every time.
2. They want a rack that will not change with humidity and will not break down from use.
3. People want a rack that is easy to use.

To be honest, people did not ask for these features:

1. Give me a rack that will identify "undersized balls."
2. Provide a rack that I can choose my color and engrave my name on.
3. Create a ball rack that will reduce wear on my cloth.
4. Manufacture a rack that will last for generations and still rack as tight as day one.

Nobody asked for these last four qualities as they did not think it was possible for a rack to do these things. The aerospace engineered Delta-13 has all seven of these attributes because we selected a material that has never been used before. Whether a rack is made of wood, plastic, resin, brass, paper, or aluminum, each brings its own set of characteristics. We selected aluminum because it has more features and more capabilities than any other material, for the price. We could have made a rack out of titanium like golf club drivers but few people would want to spend that amount of money.

Now, let's be honest. Is sound really your top reason for not using a Delta-13? If it is, I have three suggestions: 1. Place the balls on the table first then corral the balls with your Delta-13. Quit throwing the balls into the rack! It wears your cloth and probably isn't very good on your slate. 2. Spend less than $20 for leather inserts and then you will have the top 8 reasons people buy a rack, covered. 3. Consider how the rack you are using, impacts the quality of your game and turn your Ipod on.

We appreciate the opportunity to provide a little product education and understand that the Delta-13 is not for everyone. You guys are entitled to your opinions. My job is to share some information you may not have been aware of.

If the player racks properly, there will be minimal sound. Besides, it is a clean sound that I think stimulates the senses during racking ensuring that a frozen rack exists.

I love the Delta-13 rack. It is up there with Kamui Tips and Simonis Cloth in my book.

Dittos! I call it "music to my wallet", LOL.

Many people made similar comments about slot machines when they first came out. Must be something to that sound!

Anyone have any info or a link to this "insert" thingy? Are they from Delta or has someone come out with an aftermarket product?

Thanks

Delta has them and I know there is an aftermarket too. Tatoosbyjay is planning on doing some cool tooled ones!! I might even quiet it up for some of those!! :)

The inserts work pretty good, not silent but they tone the noise down which is a good thing. They were under 20 bucks shipped I think. I had to trim them to fit though. Too big out of the box. I'm glad I bought them. They came from the Delta-13 site. Now if they had a modification to take 2/3s of the weight out the racks would be just right.

Thanks Ray. Leather inserts for $20 - found them. Interestingly, the website simply says that it will dramatically "change'" the sound, but doesn't specifically market it as a quieting modification.

Call me strange, but I like things that make crisp clear noises. It adds to the experience of playing for me. I saw the video of the Delta-13 rack on youtube and I loved the metallic sound.

This said, a nice rack like this is wasted in most poolhalls with bad cloths and bad balls, which is why I won't buy one (or any other rack out there) until I get my own table. The balls at my poolhall are so crappy they just won't stay put no matter what.

To Delta-13Rack: thanks for posting openly as the manufacturer of the device, and not astroturfing under a random name. It's rare enough on internet forums to be mentioned.

I like that it makes noise. Rack the the balls and hold them tight in the rack. Pat the top of the balls lightly with the palm of your other hand. If the rack is not perfectly tight you will get a clicking sound. Keep tapping until the clicking sound goes away...now you have a tight rack. Works with old or dirty balls too. Johnnyt

I think the idea of the Delta-13 is great, but lets be honest. Coming from a business perspective, isn't it a better marketing strategy to correct the single biggest complaint of your product rather than telling the consumers to "buy this after-market product to fix it" or basically get over it? This is how products evolve. Pretty much every major company in the pool world has had to improve or modify their products over time (ie: low deflection shafts, tip tools, chalk and even gloves). Why should the Delta-13 rack be any different from those products?

Nobody is saying that the rack is not a great rack. But I have a suggestion. Instead of trying to defend what you have done with the design of the rack why not just say "after listening to our customers and wanting to be better we are now including the rack inserts to cut down on noise free with purchase." I would buy one because they rack GREAT, but I racked with them at a KF tour event and they were annoyingly loud. Especially with an entire room racking with them. What product has come out perfect the first time and didn't need any adjustment? Poolplayers asked for something and you provided it. However, the new technology brought something else into light that the players requested to be addressed. With the absence of emotion in text responses your response has an offensive tone to me; you may want to clarify it for others. I don't know if I would want to purchase a product that is sold with this type of response to a customer complaint.
