New Fatboy Ten Ball thread

I am in the same boat you are.

I would prefer the event stay at the original 16 due to the dimished return for 2-1 but also for the minimal difference at the top for 1st and 2nd comparatively.

That is another factor I had not even thought of although I think he will still get enough regardless.

Your opinions (since you are involved) is important to me. If there are enough (more than two or three) dissenters among the players, we will continue with the original format this year. I'm sure I will find out how they feel on Friday, when everyone is there.

what if some random schmoe, like myself, with $500 to blow decided to enter? Would the field still be considered elite? If I kicked in an extra $100 could I get on the tv/featured table?

I'm talking about ranking points for the world and USA rankings. This has nothing to do with the Master Of The Table awards.

Even if its toward another governing body of pool or event, the invited players still have an advantage/opportunity to get points while others do not.

PEACE

There has been so much interest in this year's Fatboy Ten Ball, Greg and I are seriously considering expanding the field to 32 players. I have ten already on a waiting list. I wouldn't do this if I didn't think we could get a full field of 32. If we fall short, I will go back to the first sixteen players. I don't want any byes! I know this may mess up the calcutta in the action room, but they can always pay off based on who goes the farthest.

This would mean an extra $8,000 in the purse and we would now pay eight sports, instead of four. Two wins to get in the money. So for all you guys out there who are interested in playing or backing someone contact me immediately! jayhelfert@yahoo.com or (310)370-3994 H. (310)710-6250 C.

glad you greg decided this...not that i count for shit

Your name is getting stolen also!!!!

Your nice little idea is turning into I don't know what?

Maybe YOU should extend invites on who plays.....but why should you have input?.....oh, you started it and put money in...hmmmmm.

I'm with ya pimp!

Expanding this tournament to 32 is a mistake in my opinion.

I think the problem is some of the top players slept this year and didn't sign up in time. Now they want a shot to get in, perhaps they should sign up for the event the year before to make sure that they don't miss out.

I enjoy this even (at 16) but it definitely cuts down on the action for the top players. I believe this should be an invitational event with alternates if they don't pay in time. If it isn't an invitational make it at least 1K to get in, 2K would be better as it would keep out the dead money.

The greatest thing about watching the matches previously was there were no bad matches, the best players in the world matched up in a small big money tournament that paid great!

Eric had a great idea with the initial concept and I can't believe this was considered without even asking him.

I totally agree.

Would love to see 16 players paying 1500 $ each next year, with 15 000 $ added. Maybe even 2000 $. Maybe 14 invites, and a qualifier the night before for the last 2 spots or something.

If there is so much interest now, the entryfee is too low :)

I thought this was supposed to be a sideevent for the elite players, giving the fans some great matches at night, and some good money for the players.

Tap, tap, tap. Said perfectly.

dont worrry about that, all these people with ideas on my dime is a ****ing joke. We'll see what happens. its a crock of shit as it is right now. and yeah yeah im pissed, i have better things to do than this though.

they are shitting where they eat, ****'em

I have spoken to Fatboy twice this morning. He is not happy (as you can tell) about the changes to his event in the desire to make it a ranking points event. As long as he is involved, it will remain just what it is, a special event for elite players. We will keep the Fatboy Ten Ball at sixteen players for this year. Next year we will again consider expanding the field. Perhaps the lesson here is that the elite players who were slow to commit this year, will act a little faster in the future.

wowthat was fast, Jay and I have everything clear. 16 players thats it!!!

it aint fair to Jay that everyone comes to him a week late and wants a spot, last time i checked AZB works all over the world 24/7-I have personally checked that. Its took 4 day to fill. Earily bird gets the worm. What happens if 14 more players show up and jay has to refund 14 people cause we dont fill 32? its a mess. Its also a mess to cram in a 32 man field into the time slot allotted, nobody wants matches at 4am-and that has happened. I dont plan on failing and I aint failing to plan. we didnt plan a 32 man tournment and it might fail just due to the time it would take to play. It would be a mess. Jay didnt sign on for that, I dont want to shorten the races. Sure we could play 6 ball with 128 players race to 5-but thats not the gig. Its a top heavy world class field non-ranking event. Period.

Next year we will schedual a 32 player field. with the same rules, first come first serve. Period. We will orginaze the time schedual so it works for everyone, and I will ask Jay if he is willing to do it, i'm not gonna pressure Jay into anything. And neither should the players who didnt get signed up this year.

This aint ever gonna be a ranking event as long as i'm posting $$$. My $$$ my rules. I have my reasons. And I'm not short sighted.

I thank Greg for posting the additional $$$. He is the only person who I would have taken $$ from since the Derby is his show-he is the boss and It was the right move.

If any players are pissed at me, so be it, but remember who's posting the $$$. You cant blame me because you were late, it was up on AZB for 4 days. If I was a pro I'd keep my eyes open for everything possible to play in. Dont lay that on me.

see ya next year.

Fatboy

thanks Jay, Greg

FWIW The 16 players that are listed sound like people that most of us can get behind and root for. Sure there are 20 other great players too. Oh hell let them all play doubles haha. I think this event will be successful no matter what!

To be a bit more clear the Fatboy Challenge is what it is. period.

Now in the future yes 32 players will be the plan. b=but thats it, I'm not going to dilute this event into "Just another tournemnt with the same format as the rest of the tournments". Then it wouldnt be the Fatboy Challenge it would be another 64 player Fatboy pool tournemnt. I'm not going to let that happen to this event, I have $15,000 into this event-to get it where its at.

Now if I want to produce larger events, or ranking events I will. But not with this event. I refuse to let other people turn this event into their own thing, If they want their own thing-then let them go post their $$$ and do their own thing. Dont try and hitch a ride on my nickel. That aint gonna happen-ever.

Will I be doing more event's? Yes. when the time is right,

When is that? I dont know, look at how bad the economy is, would anyone in their right mind try and start something now? There will come a time when the time is right and I will make my moves. Until then Be glad that I do what I do, if thats not enough, ok, I'l glad,y listen to anyone who does more than me-and I do listen to them. I'm not the biggest fish. I just started a event 3 years ago thats been great-lets not screw it up.

After reading this entire thread I am happy to see this event is remaining a 16 player event. It is/has been a successful event with top players and draws quite a crowd as well. However, it does become, as Eric said, diluted when it stretches out to 32.

And as Justin so eloquently put it it doesn't give players a chance to match up the action room which is what makes DCC what was/is today. People love the tournament format of the DCC but enjoy the hell outta themselves when they can sweat $$$$$ matches between top players.

One particular year I don't think I bought a single pass to the tournament room. I stayed in the action room and had myself a helluva good time watching match after match on different tables all from the comfort of a wing back chair. Damn near like being in my living room....it was great!!! Lord, how I miss the Executive West!!!!!!!!!:D:p

I know my opinion aint squat but here is a general rule of thumb.....Keep the fans and players happy by not killing the action!!!!
