New table in my future

Why would it take that long? I don't understand. I had Ernesto and Oscar do my table. They installed the cushions which I believe took a few hours for them, let the glue sit for a couple of days then came over to set the table up.
They were at my house for 6 hours. So lets say the whole job took 10 to 12 hours. The best table I've ever played on and I've played on a ton of tables.

That's not to bad, considering Ernesto don't do any kind of rail repair work, like repairing the sub-rails where the wood has shattered in the end grain of the wood at the ends of the rails, does nothing to replace the stapled out cloth relief on the bottom side of the rails, or does nothing to repair the feather strip dado area. And Ernesto also still installs the K66 Artemis cushions, instead of the correct K55 profile Artemis cushions that Brunswick tables are designed for...then sands off the tops of the sub-rails to fit them to the lowered down cushions. I've rebuilt quite a few of the "Ernestozised" Gold Crowns in the past. When I'm done, the sub-rails look like new...did yours after Ernesto was done? Maybe that's the difference in pricing, I don't just put cushions on, extend the rails with silicone and wood to correct the miter angles...and call it done

If Simonis is $200 and Artemis Cushions are $200, where does the extra $1100 plus go?

Just so you can correct your math, Artemis Intercontinental K55 cushions are $300 a set, you paid for the cheaper Artemis cushions installed on your tables, the K66 profile pool cushions.

If money is no object and you really want a Diamond, get one.

However, if you want to feel like that lady on the Straight Talk telephone commercials who is trying to open a Rolls Royce with her minivan remote because she now feels like a hip-hop mogul over the money she is saving on her new cell plan, then get the GC and set it up right (RKC/Gregory).

I can attest first-hand to how magnificent my GC1 plays since getting it Cobracized in September.

Atthecat asked about the costs involved as compared with when his GC was setup. There is a distinct difference between getting a table set up and having a major rebuild done. Since RKC has just fixed me up, I can now look forward to only needing cloth changes and very infrequent rubber replacements into the forseeable future.

The following link describes with pictures some of what went into my table's rebuild. I say "some" because much of what RKC performed was not photographed at his request since there were special (confidential) custom jigs used.

Suffice to say, RKC spent days working on just rebuilding/calibrating the rails.

There is no doubt that my GC1 will now go another 50 years. :thumbup:

Ken, strongly consider that "perfect" GC1 for $1000 (or $900 ).

Well I have this GC3 that I've had for about a decade and has been "Sheenized" to my dismay. I let this Assclown named Pat Sheehan extend the subrails and install new rubber and that has to be undone and fixed. I've been in a quandary for about a year as to what to do. Almost bought a diamond and couldn't pull the trigger on 6 grand. What I really need is some new rails to start over with as Sheehan cracked the hell out of my laminate in about 20 places along the feather strip and it makes me ill every time I think about it. The staple areas are moderately hacked up but would probably handle a few more recoverings but I hate to stop short if I'm going to fix the other stuff. I am trying to get some rails located and formulate a plan but it seems harder than you would think to find some pristine ones what would make this a new table. The only thing I know for sure is whatever table I end up with is going to have my new cloth on it. I've been looking at green for about 15 years now and it's time for a change.

All I know is he's done 2 tables for me and they are the best playing tables I've ever hit on. Sorry if that's hard to swallow for you. Could give a shit about the technical side of his work, it plays perfect.

I would be all over that however it seems to be a logistical thing. I'm here on the south Oregon coast and it's a 4 hour drive to Portland and 10 hours to San Francisco. Finding something in a reasonable zip code to go get it is indeed challenging.

If I buy a 5 year old or so diamond 9 footer are the rails going to need to be "recalibrated" for it to play right? I like the looks of the oak diamond that resembles a Gold Crown a lot. Hard to find around here though. Also don't want one out of a pool hall. The next table I get whatever it is needs to be a pristine example of it's kind. Sitting in someone's family room with the original cloth on it preferably. The one I have came out of the student union over in Eugene and was kind of beat from the get go but at the time I was a bit broke. I ran it with double shims and the original super speed rubber for 7 years or so and then came the Sheehan debacle. The guy used to write in a billiard magazine up here and once had a good reputation. Turns out it was his employees giving him the rep and once he lost them he didn't know enough to quit. I got stuck before the word got out. Major hack!!

I just was in Terre Haute and a good friend of mine offered a Gold Crown 1 with new Simonis cloth for $1000. Tempting I admit. He said the table was perfect and even had all the orginal stickers on it....

If it's a complete GC1 I would jump on it. Look at the castings on the underside. They should have a date scribed on them. The GC1 castings are all AL, not zinc alloy.

Ernesto is also a world class pool player. Arguably the greatest player out of Mexico. I would imagine Glen he knows exactly how a pool table should play.

Glen is legit crazy... He is ok at putting a table together but straight up insane in all other aspects of life. It's pretty obvious based on his posts.
I have played on his tables and they are not as good as he thinks. I've also played on team Mexico's tables and they play great. Ernesto and Oscar are also very nice people and pure class. Can't say the same about The Snake.

So, Ernesto rebuilds rails when they're all stappled out? Ernesto is a great installer, he installs cloth, cushions, tables...but that is what an installer does, beyond that he falls short.

You don't know me but after reading your posts you've left a pretty good image of how I see you. Very talented, no question that you are the absolute best at what you do. But you need a lesson in humility. There could be no way I would ever hire someone that says the things you say. You should ask yourself how much lost business you have racked up with the way you spray your venom on here. I know you feel baited into these discussions but you bring it on yourself.
