Hello all in AZ, and greetings.

I just joined here formally as I have been a visitor for a long time. My formal name is James, I go by the nick-name "Jay." I am 51 (still think I am 31) sometimes, and I LOVE THE GAME OF POOL ! I am a machinist by trade so I tend to be very precise and analytical toward things.
My love for the game of pool started when I was young with the influence of my father. He belonged to pool and bowling leagues, playing weekly. Once in awhile; he would visit local taprooms and play pool there all night while I sat on a barstool sipping coca-cola watching him. He won often. As a 10 yr old, I didn't understand leagues, as I look back I figure he was a S/L 7 now. One weekend he took me to Atlantic City (I believe), to see an exhibition. One of them was Willie Mosconi. What he did with billiards balls made my father's antics on a table look silly. I was amazed at how he would explain where all the balls were going BEFORE he shot. Even more amazing to a 10 yr old was him telling everyone where ALL the balls were going to go; not just the ones he intended to pocket. This 10 yr old was hooked!
My 14th Birthday got me an 8 ft table. I would spend a couple hrs a day trying to beat dad. My teen yrs left me playing king of the hill in 8 or 9 Ball on any place that would let me in to play. A career, marriage and fatherhood let the game fade through the years; yet the passion for the game was still there.
I started playing again a few yrs ago in 2 leagues, one a bar league, the other an in-house pool hall league. Currently a S/L 4-5. I have also been a guest here since 2009, primarily for tornament schedules, and to keep track of a few players I know.
I play 8 ball, 9 ball and rotation. (would love to get to know more in my area that play rotation!) It is my hope to get to know a few people here, and perhaps to help others as well. Thanks for reading !

Stick a fork in ya, you're cooked:D welcome to AZB, new blood,,,LOL

Let's see, I could call you James, and I could call you Jay.
I could call you James Jay, or simply call you JJ, but, I doesn't have to call you Mr. Johnson. I think I got all that straight. Welcome to the forum.
Dinner is promptly at six, in the main dining hall. Don't be late.

Welcome! You're lucky to have seen Willie play. Did you ever manage to beat your pops?

Welcome to the forum!

Since you've visited here before, I don't have to warn you about what you may encounter. Long sleepless nights reading the ramblings of us pool nuts. Some make sense and some don't. Some you'll agree with and some you won't. Either way, give us your opinions as we all have room to learn and grow with each other.

Thank You

Thanks all for the welcome. I must apologize for not replying earlier/ It appears as though VERIZON (my server) is having service issues today. I found this out later after posting as I could not do a lot of things b/c of VERIZON. Eg: make an ATM transaction, buy gasoline with a c/c . Ha to hi-tech. I paid the old fashioned way.

I am not sure if I am replying in the correct fashion,... if not pls forgive the new guy.

I didn't join in 2009 for fear of AZ swallowing up free time. I am not so sure that it won't now.

Beat dad about 1 of 3 on average. Usually on a 4-rail flee-flicker shot then position forthe rest. He would jam me all the time. Dad is gone now. Many good memories.

my 1st opinion: I believe there are 3 basic types of pool players.
1- Bangers 2- Shooters 3- Pool Players or "Players"
I would elaborate, but I want to get this out b-4 my server sez I cannot.

Jay

You're doing just fine, and you sound like you will fit in quite nicely here.
Welcome to the board, and this place is just like Pool. Once it's in your blood, it will keep sucking you back in ... lol :D:D

I meant to reply the other day...

Welcome to AZ Jay!!!

I've known Jay for a couple years now...he's correct with his assertion about being "analytical" with regards to a few things...okay some things...okay quite a few things...oh to hell with it, he's just freakin' anal retentive! :p

I just played the "middle-man" in a cue deal for Jay...I told him I wouldn't do it...too many things can go wrong playing the middle-man...then I found out who it was with...another good friend of mine on here...so I acquiesed...and Jay now has a beutiful new "custom"!!! (Watch out...he may be catching the bug!)

Anyway Jay...welcome to what will become 97% of your pool life...lurking AZ...the other 3% will be you playing! :D
