With Paul Newman (RIP) gone, if the major motion picture studios ever got a wild hair to do another big budget pool movie (Not Baretta, Basavich or whatever scale, I mean COM scale or bigger), who should be the star of it?

...and who should direct it?

Scorsese to direct Edward Norton.

Production will start right after the snowball fight in hell.

Beverly Hills Billiards starring Linsday Lohan as the White Widow and Gary Busey as "Machine Gun" Gary.

In all seriousness, if they want to do a proper film on pool like the Color of Money, you have to have the huge names like Newman and Cruise.

I think that Brad Pitt and Clooney would do a fabulous job, they have a good chemistry and did well with the Ocean's movies.

That is a problem, because, John Wayne is gone too. Doesn't leave many.

I could envision Ed Norton as a long lost brother of Fast Eddie, trying to talk Cruise into coming out of retirement. He could then, in order, destroy Shane, Alex, Duell, etc. Fatboy and Artie B. could write the script. Or NOT!
Director, Oliver Stone

PS. McCready could reprise his role as a now ultra wealthy stakehorse, up against Fatboy for major $$$$$$$$. Bucktooth could be rackboy. :)

Like DaBank said, you need huge stars to pull a pool movie off unless pool is the sub-plot of the movie. Face it, not many go to see actors that aren't huge stars until the few people that do find one that the movie is good and they start talking about. Then the rest have to go see it. Johnnyt

Thats true John. Norton and Cruise could be a good draw. A sub-plot could be Norton's character has been estranged from Fast Eddie all these years because he loved Piper Lauries character, and hated what Fast Eddie did to her. Help me out here...We could write the screenplay !!!
Mastriannas character could now be a Hollywood madam ( ala Heidi Floss) Lots of sub-plots.

Um...Isn't Tom Cruise the nutjob scientologist? He'd probably hurt more than help. Martin Scorsese has always been very picky with his lead men. For years, everything he did was with De Niro. Lately, DiCaprio leads all the movies.

DiCaprio and Norton would be good. They seem to be typecast these days though. I personally think Ryan Reynolds is a fantastic actor. There's also a bunch of obscure b-movie guys that would be great like Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

DiCaprio and Norton would be a great "road team!"

As far as Cruise goes; however much he is a goofball, all his movies are good and are big money makers. He is definitely a huge draw and his involvement in any project is a pre-cursor to the movies' box office success.

Tom Cruise as Les Grossman - Tropic Thunder (2008)

Tom Cruise and Ed Norton would be cool, perhaps even Matt Damon also.

Poolplayers that should be in the movie too, as oppononents in either tournaments or moneygames, could be Corey Deuel, Jasmin Ouschan, Chia Ching Wu and Roberto Gomez.

I definately agree with Ed Norton. I think he is one of the most talented actors out there.

ed norton for sure. and for some reason, put mickey rooney in there and itll be a classic

Out of curiosity...

This thread circulates once every few months. Edward Norton is always the actor of choice....Do you guys realize how much it costs to get Norton? He got paid 8 million for Death to Smoochie. That was 6 years ago. The last few movies he's done, he has also co-produced. To top it off, you guys are talking about Tom Cruise, Matt Damon, etc...These are not cheap actors. What studio is going to fund a $100M project about pool?

One more thing
Why is it always the responsibility of Fox or Paramount to come out with this fantastic pool movie? I believe several regular posters have written much about the subject of pool. One even has a script written and ready to go. Instead of sitting around talking about what the major studios need to do, why not film it by ourselves. I happen to know there are script writers, video editors, photographers, and investors who post regularly on this site and are very devoted to the game of pool...We even have a celebrity with, I assume, plenty of connections in the film and tv industries.

It is possible that a remake of the Hustler will come about. It is not like it is unusual for Hollywood to go back to the well. Although knowing pool's luck if they remake The Hustler they will change pool to poker.

<-----hates poker. A lot.

That would be perfect, Keith is THE choice for the pool player, Ed Norton is a great actor but let him act-use real players, Keith, Seaz, Grady, Rodney, Keith, Scott, Alex, Keith, etc.

there is enough talent in pool for the charcters, the only reason you need a "Actor" is for marketing, so who would sell the most tickets the best choice-simple business.
