When you consistently have opponents that play like this:

If the women want Allison and Karen to stop dominating like they have been, they need to step their games up a few notches, because this is ridiculous. How can this be called pro pool? The match provided in the link above, I have seen others just like this countless times, again and again from the ladies. I think they need to start gambling or something. I know the women have the ability inside them to play lights out like Efren or Sigel or whoever. But for some reason, they don't seem to have enough competition. If they gambled alot, that would provide alot of great competition, and I think we wouldn't see any more gender gaps in this game.
 
That's like... low APA skill level 6's playing. I could beat them if they played like that all the time. That being said... from what I've seen from them at other times this is their absolute low-end game. They must've been sick and feeling like crap or just wasn't their night.

I've always maintained that there is Allison closely followed by Karen, then the rest. I think it has nothing to do with gambling or with numbers playing. It has to do with native genetic based abilities. Just as no matter how much I work at it I can never have Efren's game, I believe no woman can ever have Efren's game until basic physiological changes evolve.
The average man just has better physical coordination than the average woman, and the most athletic men still have better physical coordination than the most athletic women. The differences are miniscule possibly, but they have far reaching effects. Natural ability and lots of practice and you have Allison; a little more natural ability and lots of practice and you have Efren.
AZBilliards has been down this debate road many times. There is only anecdotal evidence, no hard evidence; it always comes down to personal opinion. That's my personal opinion.
 
Tracie did what she needed to do, and that's punish your opponent for missing...Helena loses her matches from within her own head....

I couldn't even make it through the video w/out turning it off. Man, was that terrible. It was like watching a deer die. I've seen guy pros meltdown too, in all fairness.

Everyone has good days, bad days, great days and days that you don't want to even think about.

As far as the men vs. women issue, I just feel compelled to quote my self from the "Why can't women play as good as men" thread.

Practice is the issue here. Let's say we have a girl age 15 and a boy age 15 both just starting to play pool. The girl is already at a 4 to 7 year disadvantage. That young lad has been practicing stroking for at least that long. He's getting the repetitive rhythm and timing down and toning those muscles. We aren't talking about just occasionally either. This is nearly constant. You just can't expect a girl to play pool better than a guy after this kind of training.

Some friends of mine who met Nick Varner said that he had to work at pool 8 hours a day, just like a job, and that the women practiced 4 hours a day and then went shopping. :D
 
horrible that these women get paid to play pool. they are honestly shooting at APA 6 level here......
 
Don't get me wrong, I have alot of respect for some females games. I just really feel that they should be disgusted with matches like this. I mean come on....Helena misses BALL IN HAND on the 8ball, quickly turns around and sits down. Tracie and Helena trade easy misses, they quickly turn around and sit down. Is that because they are pros? Does that attitude help? Obviously not in their case, because their games got worse! THEY WERE ACTING LIKE THAT IS JUST ROUTINE FOR THEM!

If they played good patterns, and good shot selection, even on an off day, they could still get out. But they don't. They play poor patterns. If the rack is congested, they can't get out. Hell, they can't even play position to a safety.

Ugh I sound like I am this ultimate pool critique, I really am not...

I just want to see the ladies to stop putting up with all of these poor performances, learn the game by gambling under pressure, and come back and whoop some ass! It's been YEARS since Allison and Karen have dominated. I would have figured that they would have done something about it by now....like you know....gotten better??!?!?
 
I'm too young to remember and I don't mean to tread on sacred ground here, but I often wonder how good Jean Balukus was...or was her name built on the fact that she was simply better than the other women on tour at the time. Her sudden departure from competition probably fuels the fire.

I heard she played at mens tour stops occasionally. How did that go? Did she put fear into the hearts of the men?

AF & KC didn't seem to make much of a wave on the IPT. Sarah Ellerby seems to be the highest ranked woman on the IPT at 73rd. AF is 86th and KC is 132nd.

I attended the WPC in Chicago a few years back and outside of the top 5 woman, their performance was dismal. I won't name names, but I was amazed at the level of play in comparison to the juniors competition going on a few tables over...forget about comparisons to the men.

I'm not trying to be sexist...only pointing out the obvious. I question this disparity in performance only because I can not explain it. Why must it be so? Is it a physical issue (I doubt it), is it a mental issue (maybe), is it a product of sex-based child-rearing (most likely)...

I truly hope that a revolution of some sort occurs and the women suddenly realize the same level of performance as the men.
 
While the level of play in that match is certainly disappointing, the thing that made me turn it off was Tracie's hyperactive wrist. I don't know why, but seeing that motion is like fingernails on a chalkboard for me. It seems to be working ok for her, but I can't help but think that she might benefit from a few changes in that area. Are there any other prominent players that put that much wrist into their stroke? I just can't see how any supposed benefits could possibly outweigh the obvious problems with a motion like that.

Guess it was just a bad day for Helena.

Couldn't watch more than the first rack though.

But women's pool that bad? LJJ doing 5 B&R against Hohmann, and knocking him out in first round in IPT World Open. Jasmin Ouschan finishing 5th in the MENS 14-1 Championship, lost for the winner Hohmann in the quarterfinal...

I think it is just a matter of time before a girl (Jasmin) will win a men's event.

Jean Balukas played and beat many of the very top pro men when they were at their peak. There is a thread on here somewhere with a tournament that she beat three of them in a row. Maybe Jay or someone can recall her mens tournaments. I do know that a lot of the men players were'nt too nice to her. I guess they couldn't stand being beaten by a woman. How small is that? If Jean Balukas was still on the women's pro tour, you'd be saying," Allison who?!?..... Karen who?!?" Jean was simply the greatest female player to ever pick up a cue. She was to female players what Willie was to the men. With only a couple of exceptions, she was as good as most pro men players. PERIOD!;)

I've always had lots of respect for pro women players, and have always believed personally that genes have nothing to do with a persons potential to play world class pool. You just don't hear of women dropping out of school at age 13 to go on the road. Also don't hear stories of women spending 15 hour days in smoke filled back rooms playing marathon money games. As far as American women today, playing pool is something that they usually picked up from a boyfriend or possibly their father and turned into an obsession, but not a way of life like the men.
As far as the match in the video goes? It was like watching old people have sex..........................................SLOW AND SLOPPY!!!

Kelly Fisher, Ga Young Kim, Xiao Ting Pan, Jasmin, Gerda..they can all play at the level of Allison when they are on.

I have seen some of these ladies play a whole match without missing a ball.
 
That match is really not a good representaion of women's pool. If you watched 2 qualifiers playing on the first day of a tourney you might see something of that sort but once you get into the top 25 there are some very good players.
