Not Reading Anymore Aiming Threads

... All kidding aside, I bought, watched and read your "Pool and Princibles" when I came back afters 5 years and 2 strokes. I couldn't remember things. Even the basics. It worked well for me. Thank you. Johnnyt
I assume you meant my book: "The Illustrated Principles of Pool and Billiards." If so, I'm glad it helped you.

Dave

Actually, this thread should be renamed to "someone shoot JohnnyT for starting not only one, but *three* separate aiming threads in the span of only a couple days."

There is no doubt, there are a few posters that keep things rolling around here.

I guess you are right, I should shoot JohnnyT a rep for making me laugh and for consistantly starting threads on stuff around here!

I took me 3 hours to get back to aiming and making balls like I've done for 50+ years after I started and read that Aiming Is Simple thread. I was sub-consciously adjusting something at the last fraction of a second just before I hit the QB and missing the pocket altogether. All aim threads are on ignore for me…sub-consciously from now on. Johnnyt

WHAT AIMING THREADS??

I have a foolproof aiming system I am giving away for free.

If you always pocket the ball, you will never miss.:grin-square:

Spammed again!!!

:o<<<<(just kiddin dr. dave)
At least I didn't include a link to the book. Oops ... there I go again. Sorry. I guess I've been corrupted by reading the hundreds of posts from Gene lately advertising PERFECT AIM. I am amazed and impressed that he has sold many hundreds of copies of the DVD in such a short amount of time; especially given the price, which is more than three times what is typically charged for that sort of thing. You have to give the guy credit ... that's a lot of cash to be raking in. If you're thinking: "Dr. Dave sounds jealous" ... you're absolutely right. That Gene is an amazing salesman.

Dave

Gene's more than a salesperson, he's a pro-level player conveying very good information. Is it perfect? No-- but it's great info that no one really talks about.

I'd show him a little more respect. Both JoeyA and I beat up his info pretty good and we both think it's good info. Does Gene Perfect-Aim everyone to death-- maybe. You imply he's selling snake oil and he's not. He wouldn't sell that number of copies because he's a good salesman-- he does because people ask other people and his info works.

Edit: I'm not a Gene (or anyone's) cheerleader - just saying he's not a "salesman" -- he's a strong pool player and pool instructor. I think if you'd call him a salesman, he'd prob reply with what kind of spot do you want.

I have tremendous respect for Gene as a salesman (he is amazing), as a player (he has demonstrated his ability in national tournaments), and as a person (he is a great guy ... I have met him). My post in no way judges or belittles the content of his DVD. I don't appreciate you implying otherwise.

I know Gene's approach is based strongly on a clear dominant eye, and where you align the dominant eye for different shots. I'm not such a strong believer of the importance of eye dominance (I don't think a person's "vision center" is necessarily over the dominant eye, assuming there is one), but I do appreciate the importance of consistent and well-positioned vision in pool. I'm glad Gene is bringing this issue more to the forefront, where it belongs. I look forward to future discussions and debates on this topic.

Dave

One thing that some people don't understand, is that not every system is for everybody. And some get by just fine without. Sort of like religion. Intact that's a great way to look at it and it's no suprise people fight over this. If it works for me is HAS to be right for you. But just like religion, find what works for you... If anything, and use it. But fighting over what works and why is not worth the time. Actually giving it a fair try IS.

That's not his approach. I guess you never watched his video?

I'm not trying to pick a fight with ya-- but saying he sold tons of videos because he's a salesman does in fact imply that. I'm sure you didn't try it... I'm just saying. I know a lot of people really love your info and look up to you (I do too). I had to clear that up in case someone was considering Gene's DVD and got the wrong idea from your post.

Maybe you should just stick with the OLD THAT WORKS 4 U, and forget the mumbo jumbo.

I personally use the SECRET Cozin Willie AIMING SYSTEM that my Friends Cozin Willie should me years ago, and when I EXECUTE THAT SYSTEM PROPERLY 110% OF THE TIME I PLAY LIKE AN "A"

Amen to that!!!

I watched Gene give a lesson to a friend, and Gene was kind enough to work with me individually some after the lesson, and I did see a portion of the DVD, but I admit I still don't understand and appreciate all of the intricacies of his system. I look forward to viewing the entire DVD (hopefully the new one), so I can try his stuff out some more and give it a closer look.

I hope not too many others got the wrong impression from my original post. If so, Gene has my sincerest apology. I was slamming the DVD price (which I think is high); but the price apparently hasn't scared away many customers, so I guess my slam was inappropriate. Kudos and best wishes to Gene for his continued success.

Dave, I'm sure it wasn't your intent... and I hope you didn't think I was trying to throw ya under the bus. I think it was the price comment paired with the salesman label that made the post imply that. Everyone reads stuff differently.

$$$ has nothing to do with a DVD. Price is relative to how the knowledge improves one's game. Maybe you should start selling your DVDs (especially the slow-mo one) for more $. Not all pool players are broke as a joke. I think if I ever made a CTE video (doubt I ever will), I'd sell it for well over $100 because it's worth way more than that. Someone who wouldn't wanna learn it would think it's a heist whereas someone else would think it was the steal of the universe. It's all relative to the person. I paid the $70 (when I prob didn't have to) and I'm not complaining.

Yes that book. I had the cover right in front of me when I typed. See these aiming threads really mess me up. Johnnyt

There's a point to be made there. A lot of serious players in other sports such as tennis, golf, bowling, etc. avoid talking or reading about technique, because it will "mess up their heads."

Golfers call it "paralysis by analysis," where you get so caught up in holding your foot this way, your knee this way, your hips this way, your elbow this way, blahblahblah, you get so tensed up you can't even swing the club back. I can certainly see the same thing happening to a pool stroke.

Ruark

You got that right I started golf and there's a "million" ideas (all of them are right and everyone else is wrong) about swinging a club to hit a golf ball. When I stopped reading golf magazines for awhile I broke 90.

One thing golf taught me was wait a year the $500 drivers and $50 DVDs and books find their way into the discount pile because "wait we have an "improved" that proves everything else we thought we knew was wrong".
