Occupation...

Way too many nuts and bolts

Millwright/field machinist, 35+ years repairing industrial machinery...pumps, compressors, hydraulic systems.

I'm a hustler in the making that does A/P at a paint company as a hobby.

Fortunately for me, it sounds like there are a lot of people with money out there on the pool tables! :D

Poor guy. Are you also the guy that subtlely screws up my car if I'm too much of an a-hole or do you just employ him? ;)
I won't let them screw it up but in case you don't know then here is a little known unwritten rule.

A-holes pay extra!

Retired from the Navy in '93, wrote a couple of (still unpublished) books, was a sportscard dealer for about 12 years, and now sell books and CDs through Amazon. I do just well enough to live comfortably but not well enough to get myself in trouble (my extra dough always had a way of winding up in G-strings). Very interesting thread.

top this....

I design products for the Church of Scientology. NOT KIDDING. My own wife didn't believe me initially, don't expect you to either. Not a scientologist, can't twirl a Balabushka like Tom Cruise yet and don't possess his "dynamite break". Pays the bills.

Software developer...

Currently developing high-availability rating/guiding/billing systems for the telco industry. When I say "high-availability", I mean Five Nines (99.999% uptime), i.e. about 5 minutes total downtime per year. So, you can imagine how much pool time I have when things go wrong! Eeeesh...

I work as a engineer at a power plant, but i'm changing job now. And june 1 i start making tanks for liquid gass, and that is a good thing since the work place is only 5 minutes from where i live. This is going to give me a lot more time to play pool and play with my daughter.:)

i am a electric and water meter service tech. includes about half office work and half field work. job lets me travel and see the country, not bad pay. love it.

Strange...I thought I posted in this thread when it started! Apparently "some-timer's disease" is beginning to set in! LOL

Full time professional pocket billiard instructor/trick shot artist. I spend 8-9 months a year traveling the country teaching pool, and doing shows in the college market. It's a dirty job, but somebody has to do it... :D

Let's see if I can remember them all. Paper boy, odd temporary jobs, counter person at Taco Bell, landscaper, kitchen helper, road clean-up, salesman and manager for Radio Shack, YMCA camp maintenance crew, salmon fisher, 8 years as assembler and technician at Hewlett-Packard, had my own business making and selling ceramic figurines, and then finally environmental test technician at Hewlett-Packard for the past 11+ years.

high fives quality system, that sounds like a rigorous task to accomplish.

I've worked as a maintenance hand, sound engineer, party motivator, retirement home volunteer, QA analyst, tech spec. writer, low-level programmer and my favorite "Math Workshop Facilitator."

The education industry is by far one of my favorites. But there are few others I've yet to try.

What do you think should a entry level person stay with what they favor or try new things with uncertain results?

Personally I like what Im doing and do not really want change.

Whats your occupation? Pool players represent a large cross section of America. All walks of life from prominatant sports figures, to dentists, to construction workers... the list goes on and on. In our league we have a Lawyer, a Dentist, a Grave digger, a Chimney sweep, a engineer, and an Elevator mechanic to name a few. The last one represents myself.

I troubleshoot problems when the elevators don't work right. I provide maintainance on a scheduled basis. Perform safety tests to ensure they run as per code. Perform repairs when the elevators are really "Broke but good."
I am also "On Call' one day a week and one weekend a month.

I'm curious to see what everyone else does to pay the bills.
