Odds makers - can Blackjack do it?

Looks like 7 balls a minute without stopping for 12 hours straight. It's possible but he better rack quickly and make sure he goes potty before he starts.

One of us needs to recypher. . . . . .Well for twelve hours straight twicet! After taking away racking time for 667 racks he has considerably less time. My guess is that he will have to make about ten balls a minute.

FWIW, I have done this several times. The difference this time is that I will be breaking it down into 2 (two) 12 hour blocks. The other times I have done this, I have done it for 24 hours straight. I have reached the 10,000 ball mark all but 1 time. This is more about the Amato family than it is about what I am doing.

I have heard a lot of people say that the racking will be a huge part of this - which definitely is true - but the biggest factor is the way the balls spread off the breaks. You can rack the balls as quickly as possible, but if the balls don't spread well, you will spend most of your time breaking up clusters instead of pocketing balls. This is where (in my experience) you lose the most time.

The table I will be doing this on is the IPT Diamond table that was purchased when Rodney Morris was the house pro at Capone's. Right now it still has the slow Gorina cloth on it, but Rocky said he might put some new Simonis on it, which will help a lot. I'm not too worried about the cloth or the speed because after about 5-10 racks I'll get used to it anyway. My main concern is losing momentum by taking the break between days 1 and 2. I am averaging about 1:30 - 1:45 per rack and I know I can go much faster than that - I have put 15 balls down in 54 seconds recently. I can't go that fast for very long, so I pace myself at 1:45 - 2 minutes per rack.

I would like to thank everybody that has expressed interest in helping with this effort by either donating raffle items, or pledging money. The past few times we have had fundraisers for the Amato family, Brandon has been in the hospital or unable to attend. I believe that when pool (as a community) reaches out to help others in this fashion, we show our TRUE colors and we smash the negative stereotypes associated with our game. Like I said, its not about what I am doing - its about the Amato family - and about our response to the calling.

good for you Blackjack!

hey, you might wanna leave the slow cloth on the table! The cueball will stop rolling sooner....new Simonis rolls FOREVER and you"ll be waiting:D

good luck,
Gerry

I don't know about the Amato family but I sure wish you well David.

I am getting ready to head out to Spring Hill this evening - I will start shooting at 11 Am tomorrow.... I have been preparing for this and I have been averaging between 28-30 racks per hour. As long as my body holds up, I am confident I can reach my goal of 10,000 by 11PM Sunday evening.

We will provide updates on my prgress periodically throughout the weekend - please be sure to check out the donation site - any amount is appreciated -

thanks to everybody that has made donations so far!

Good luck, Blackjack...that's quite a tough feat! You must have tough feet! (sorry, couldn't resist).

I'm not worried so much about my feet - its my back.. I'm about 25-30 pounds OVER my usual fighting weight. I tried to lose weight for this and ended up gaining another 5 pounds...

lol

I guess by the time I am done, I will have lost at least some weight. lol

Lots of good odds makers around here, I would like your opinion.

see the sticky or click http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=77501

well if he can stay awake and not rest a bit 28 racks/1hour for 24 hours should do the trick. That is certainly obtainable. So 56 racks per 1hr for 12 hours is probably not likely. If he did 56 racks in an hour he would have to pocket 14 balls per minute which is not likely. I would say that he could do it in 20 hrs.

IMO, whether you make 10,000 or not, you are a hero and an inspiration.

Best of luck and be well.

Ironman was a term from many moons ago.

Anyone who makes 10000 balls in this short period deserves to be called whaever he wants without an argument from me.!!!

That's true and this is quite a feat. I humbly suggest that in the future, we all refer to Blackjack as FAST LARRY SAPOLIS.... imo
