Gus Szamboti was a great cue maker. He made some of the nicest cues I have ever seen or hit with. I have not had all the experience with high end cues as some of the people in here but feel I have good taste in what is a good looking cue and what is not. Personally, I have found that Box cues are ugly as homemade sin and just want to understand why these are so expensive compared to some of his other cues. If I had the money, I would buy a Gus but this one I just dont understand. 3 differnt ring styles on 1 cue. Nonmitred boxes. Inlays that appear to be coming out. No authenticity.(To our knowledge) I think Barry's cues look and play better anyway. Not trying to ruffle any feathers just want to understand if someone can explain it to me. ASIDE FROM THE QUANTITY OF CUES HE MADE, WHAT MAKES THEM SO VALUABLE???? I play with Scruggs, Mottey, Searing, Josey. Barry and a few other premier cuemakers cues and there really is not that much of a difference in playability. Again, not trying to ruffle feathers, just trying to understand, Anyway, good luck to whomever wins this auction and I hope it is real for your sake. PM me if you want to tell me your opinion. Thanks in advance.

THERE ARE ALOT OF THINGS THAT MAKE THIS CUE SO VALUABLE. THE FACT THAT IT MAY BE THE ONLY ONE OFFERED FOR SALE FOR THE NEXT TEN YEARS, HAS ALOT TO DO WITH IT.

ALSO, THE THINGS YOU MENTIONED, THAT YOU THOUGHT WERE WRONG WITH THE CUE, IN MY OPINION HELP IT. GUS COMMONLY USED DIFFERENT RINGS AT EACH SPOT, SO THAT ACTUALLY HELPS THE CUE. THE FACT THAT GUS MARKING HIS CUES IS RARE, AND A MARKED BOX CUE IS EVEN MORE RARE.

SOUNDS TO ME LIKE AN AIR BARREL BEING FIRED.......THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL HEAVY OFFERS MADE FOR THE CUE ALREADY, BUT I'M SURE THAT YOU HAVE MORE CASH THAN ALL THE LARGEST COLLECTORS IN THE WORLD, AND THAT YOU COULD END IT.

SO I GUESS YOU'RE JUST GONNA STAY BEHIND YOUR USER NAME, INSTEAD OF LETTING US KNOW WHO YOU ARE. THAT'S ALL THE INFO I NEED.

P.S. I'M NOT TRYIN TO BE A TOTAL ASS, BUT I HAVE TROUBLE WITH GUYS THAT ONLY GO BY A SCREEN NAME. YOU MAY BE BILL GATES FOR ALL I KNOW, BUT THAT DOESN'T MATTER TO ME. THE WORLD ISN'T ALL ABOUT CASH. I JUST LIKE TO KNOW WHO I'M HAVING A DISCUSSION WITH

Plus all the materials point to this being a very early cue. With it so fancy and provenance, that just adds to the appeal IMO. This cue is going to go high....no doubt !!

NICE Szambotis in this thread. That ebay one is just killer. TheDiamond's Szam and the John Wright cues are stunning as well, big congrats on those. Me and John Wright did some business on a number of cues. I was very sad when I learned he had passed away a few years back. I bought my Gus from Mark Kulungian around 2000, I play with the cue regularly and its an incredible hitting cue.

Yeah, I miss John Wright too. Even though I bought plenty of cues from him, he always wanted to chat about other non-pool related things....which I liked a lot. A genuine character who is sorely missed.

Just Curious......

I would be interested in how you could end an auction if you wanted to. It is not available for early ending for the "right" price.

I was going to end 2 car auctions recently, one for an Enzo and one for a Duesenberg, but decided I didn`t want to. I decided not to proceed because I just preferred a Chevy. Besides, I just wanted to watch the auctions go the distance........

By the way, mark me up on the side that LOVES box cues, and I am not just a looker.

Bill:)

Hey Marcus,
I can understand your thoughts about air barrels being shot on AZ.. I can let you know Fatboy is legit and can make a good play for any cue that catches his eye..
As for that ibuycues guy, he's ok also.. Only Kidding Will...
Will is one of the real good guys in this industry.. I always look forward spending time with Will and his wife at the shows..
Best,

thanks guys for the nice words, i dont like to hide there are plenty of forums i use my real name but those people are squares-not pool players, i spent 10 years in the pool room 24/7 after that i spent the rest of my life in telemarketing boiler rooms and those guys me included could give the pool players the 5 and the pop, when it comes to being slick, dishonest etc, nothjing to be proud of but hey it was better than a real job. i know whats out there i've never been a square but i never had bad habits thus poof my success., and this aint the place to go public, thanks for understanding, fatboy

Im Not As Well Funded As Some Of You Guys, If I Was, This Cue Would Have No Chance To Leave The Country. This Could Be My New All Time Favorite Gus. There Are A Few 8 Pointers That Are Close But This Is The Nutzzzz.

i never count other peoples $$$$, i look way past that, who they are is important , not what they have, ive had $$$ for 7 years. im 40 so it looks like this 7/40 not that much time, so i'm the same guy I was before i made anything. it aint about the $$$ its the person.

i wish i felt that way about it, i'm trying to like it i really am, but it just aint working for me, i know its rare etc. but you have to buy something you like, i made that mistake on a watch once-my most expensive watch. i have others i bought to sell and dont care about them-just what i can make on them, but i went off $235,000 on a watch that looks terrible on me and then the market went flat on that watch, i'll get out 240 someday, you have to like to buy it so you dont get trapped.

i have bought watches i didnt like and grew to like them and doubled my $$ on them, big watches 6-figure pieces, watches are hot right now its hard to make a mistake, cues are a lot tougher. Thus every cue I buy has to be something I like and if I get lucky thats cool. I've flipped alot over the ears and havent booked many losers.

KEN,
YOU HAD TOLD ME ABOUT THAT OTHER BOX CUE BEFORE. IF YOU CAN FIND PICS, I'D LOVE TO SEE IT.

I SPOKE ON THE PHONE TODAY, WITH THE OWNER OF THE CUE ON EBAY, AS WELL AS THE GUY THAT IS RUNNING THE AUCTION. BOTH ARE VERY NICE GUYS.

YOU BETTER KEEP THIS ONE IN THE STATES IF YOU GET IT.

you know what is great is there is 5 bidders all over 25,000 wich is great! that shows how the cue market is still got alot of life. we have our best selling cues are the ones over 7000.00, and it is a wonderful thing . but the under 2000.00 is dead. I think that the gas prices are taking a toll on alot of people and the ones that are doing well are not changing habits!! mi just hope that it does stay in the states. the overseas market is struggling so i think it will

Hey Marcus,

You are right, I had to get in this one.

Sorry Ken and Bill, please be patient with me but I have to feed my box cue fever. You both are very aware of my fondness for these.

Ken, if you are talking about the box cue Szamboti that you sent me photos of several years ago, let me know. I might be able to resurrect the pictures (not sure).

Fatboy, with the comments by Ken and Bill, I know you are stand-up. Sorry about the earlier jab.

Will......( The box cue guy)
