Olathe!!!! What A Joke!!!

This past weekend on Olathe they run a great tournament and the guys from the action report provided free coverage to a lot of pool fans. They were trying to do some good for pool but in the end it was all overshadowed by a complete joke!!!!!!!!

Everyone pretty much knows what happen but i will tell you again...Orcullo was down basically to his last barrell 3300 and it was 3000 a game....Banks was shooting missed a kick and McMinn let him shoot again on a straight in ball.....Orcullo immediately unscrewed and walked away...Banks was attempting run out got out of line on the 8 rail to rail and lagged the cue ball down to it and left mcminn straight in....THIS IS WHY THERE IS NO MONEY IN POOL...WHEN SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENS AND SHOWS THERE IS NO HONOR IN THE SPORT...THEN WHY WOULD ANYONE EVER TRY TO HELP AND PROMOTE POOL OR SPONSOR IT..

This could have been stopped though...The owner Dan Tull didnt do anything....If he would have came out of the crowd and said no this isn't going to go down like this and said redraw order and rebreak and play honest or get the hell out of here.....When i Personally asked if he is going to do anything to stop this as soon as it happened...he kind of lAUghed at me and said Orcullo quit..............WHAT AN ABSOLUTE A$$HOLE!!!!...THESE GUYS JUST MADE A MOCKERY OF HIS POOL ROOM AND HE LET IT HAPPEN..............He should have been the last person in the world laughing!!

I do not blame the players because there is no money in pool and they have to fight and do the wrong things sometimes just to survive.....Some might say well you had a big bet against banks jr to win the tourney thats why u were so mad but even if I didnt have a bet this would have offended me horribly its gross what happened...Needless to say these tourneys are done there won't be another like it after this incident...but if Dan Tull would have done the right thing and step in because it was his room and his tourney...then it would have set a precident and let people know that shady things like this can't go on in Pool if we ever expect it to be a respectable sport with good money for the great players.........

I did not get the chance to see the last few games played. I had to go to work.

For those of us who did not see it, could you explain EXACTLY what happened?

How could McMinn allow Banks to shoot again after Banks came with a miss? Wouldn't the next player in line be the one to take the next shot?

I just want to get a clearer understanding of what you believe to have occurred.

Thanks in advance.

I've given Jamie Mcwhorter hell in past posts about the woofing and what not, but I will be the first to applaud this one. I agree on all counts and think that things like this happen all too often in pool and does limit the potential of the sport as a whole.

Banks came with a foul, not a miss.

What I bolded is news to me. I've read in this thread that Orcullo did break down before Banks bunted the 8ball. But I haven't read the real reason why Orcullo broke down.

That's pretty despicable.

If this happened like you said I agree with everything you said except don't blame the players. There is NO excuse for that kind of crap in a tourament. I don't know where these poolrooms are where this sort of thing happens all the time...but the ones I played in you wouldn't make it to your car if you pulled that sh**. Your also right that it is the reason no big company wants anything to do with pool. Johnnyt

If I was playing and you broke your cue down befor or during my shot you just told me that i am the winer.
And that you have know respect for me or my game!!
Where I come from you might just get a pool cue up the side head in the right room!

Thanks Rvan

I'm thinking Orcullo saw what was happening before he broke his cue down. They were obviously chopping him up. At that level, 2-on-1 might be tough with $300 left. Sad, but I would have done the same.

Banks Jr missed a kick on the one and the table was open and the one was stright in almost...So mcminn let him shoot again...which he is allowed to do but he only did because that way if JR didnt get out then he probaly would have and they would have had Orcullo crippled with 300 left...Orcullo unscrewed as soon as Shane let Banks shoot again....because he realized what was going on

Also earlier in the tourney when walden was still left there was a very questionable shot the Banks Jr shot and left walden safe on his last barrell....And believe me WALDEN WAS HOT FOR HOURS AFTER THE INCIDENT AND HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN...Suppose to be honest effort and no on enforced it on these certain situations........

I was surprised about the final outcome even before hearing about this. Two no-namers taking first and second in such a strong field says that there was definitely something wrong.

I will applaud as well. A classless move by Banks Jr & McMinn. They obviously had some sort of agreement...which is probably needed to beat someone like Orcullo...but theey coulda respected AND FOLLOWED the rules of the game.

If Walden is ticked, then it shows the mood of the scene, this will likelybe the end of this event.

First I blame the format... then I blame the players who are teaming.

Shoulda been a round-robin in my opinion... with tie-breakers similar to what the IPT was doing... much less chance for a bunch of shit going down.

:)

From what I heard Billy offered him a 3000 buy out and he said the hell with it,he's there till the end.Pretty sporty.

That's just shameful if it went down like this. And yes, it's precisely the reason why many railbirds no longer wager side bets.....why would they if the fix is on ??

Obviously, you've not played either of these "no-namers." And apparently, you didn't watch them play over the weekend. They both deserved to be where they were based on the strength of their play -- as individuals.

And IF McMinn took a calculated risk by letting Jr. shoot again, because he didn't think he was the favorite to get out, then that's just a smart move -- happens all the time in a ring game. It doesn't mean there's some sinister "agreement."
