old guys wearing hustlin usa gear?

What looked "weird" to you, though I'm rapidly reaching the point where I don't really care? Your post was offensive to a lot of people, some because of the "old guy" and some for the "weird". Answer the question.

i don't see what the problem is.

I'm one of the 'older' guys too.....But I'm surprised at how many of the older guys are getting their boxers all in a bunch over what this kid said - from the response you'd think he said all old guys should die or something.....So he thinks certain clothes look 'weird' (his word) on us 'old guys' - so what, big deal - and we sure as hell think his generation wearing pants halfway down their azz and sideways baseball caps is stupid, so were even....

I always try to make sure to objectively see things from all sides....that said, back in 1969 when I was wearing velvet bell bottom pants and a giganto-collared flowered shirt....if I saw an 'old guy' wearing that same outfit that I was wearing, I would have said to myself...."Man, that looks fukked up" (and I don't mean in a good way, lol).

I like this post. A lot. Enough to just plain repost it.

...May we please have a pic of you in your velvet bell bottom pants and a giganto-collared flowered shirt?

interesting

I also think we have a few things going on here.

--any definition of "old" is going to piss someone off.
--we all see something different when we see each other
--we all see/ understand/ interpret very different things when we see the Hustlin brand
--making fun of someone's clothes is childish. It can also elicit a childish response.

: )

(fwiw, someone earlier in the thread insisted that "in all his years of playing pool he has NEVER heard of someone being made fun of because of their clothes." That just made me laugh outright, seriously, although I don't think it was actually intended to be funny.)

I heard a similar but different story which I tend to find more believable. Namely that clothing in prison is ill-fitting and off rides low anyway even if you try to wear it hip high. When these guys returned to the street they started wearing there civilian pants low to indicate they'd been inside. It then caught on with everybody because they wanted to look like the guys who'd been inside.

I'm sure there are a bunch of versions to how it started.

I'm guessing it's because most of the hood rats wore hand-me-downs, so if there was a few years between the older sibling, then the younger guy was wearing pants that didn't fit too well :o

Maybe a mixture of the old and the new would be acceptable for us Chronologically Challenged pool enthusiasts?

Sorry for bringing this thread back, but I had one more thought about it, giving a different slant....

It could be more about vernacular than anything else. The word Hustlin', with the dropped g, is rap/hip hop/adopted ghetto slang, which is young guys music and way of talking (for the most part) and could be a big reason (maybe even subconsciously) for the op's initial opinion/reaction of it being 'weird' associating that word with an 'old guy'....

If instead, the op had seen an older guy wearing a t-shirt that said....Pool Hustler....he would have very likely NOT have thought it was 'weird', the way he did when seeing the Hustlin' USA SHIRT.....The hypothetical 'Pool Hustler' printed shirt probably would have seemed to him, a natural match for a seasoned looking 55 yr. old pool player to be sporting.

At the last super billiards expo, I was making a game with a kid about 15-16 years old wearing a hustlin' USA shirt. (seemed like they all had them on) He was playing on the tables around me all night, so I knew how he played. I managed to get a spot simply because he was wearing a shirt calling himself a hustler. The spot didnt last long, but he nearly funded my trip! Thanks for hustlin' me!

I dont have a problem with the shirts... no matter who is wearing them. But if you have one on and want to play me, you better be spottin' me!

If that story is true I guess Bernie Madoff better get used to low riders. Woohoo, the rat bastard.

Maybe, but these guys knew their gang related stuff and that's where they said it originated. Perhaps it caught on inside prison for whatever reason and the origins were forgotten and then carried over into the street.

Madoff will be a celebrity in prison, every scam artist will be trying to pick his brain to figure out how he worked his hustle.

As far as wearing hustling gear though, I prefer the Omaha Fats look. I would rather be underestimated than trying to pretend I'm a hustler when I'm just a banger.

Well I'm 50......

anyone else think it's strange to see old guys wearing hustlin usa gear. i saw an old guy at hard times sporting a hustlin usa t shirt and it really looked weird.

what do you guys think?

Well I'm 50 and I wear whatever I want to wear. I happen to like Tony's Hustlin' USA brand of clothing. These Hustlin' USA items are all in my wardrobe:

Blue Long-Sleeve T
Red Long-Sleeve T
Black Long-Sleeve T
Green T (with dictionary definitions on the back)
Black T with 9-ball on the back
White FlexFit Cap
Green FlexFit Cap

I do not aspire to be a hustler but I am an avid and addicted pool player. I also wear all my baseball caps backwards:eek: most of the time. I dress in shorts at all times except at work or church or social functions. My choice of shoes are always basketball shoes.

Age has nothing to do with attire IMHO.

Wear what makes you happy and what you feel comfortable in.

Peace.

Ghost you make a good point.

But...the guys who originated the gangsta style, rap music and that part of the black culture and manner of speaking (dropping the 'g' etc..) are in their 60's (or older) now.

A guy I know who's a thug and stands on the corner every day with his huge afro, chains and bling...is 69 years old.

To look at him you'd think he was MAYBE 40.

I spoke with Tony Hargain (owner of Hustlin USA Clothing) and asked him to come up with a nice shirt with "60 and over ONLY"

He liked the idea.. but wondered why 60? why not 40?

I said, those younger 'whipper snappers' can buy any of the other stuff!!!:D

Do I understand this correctly? You were gambling with a child at the SBE and took enough money off him to pay for your trip, is that what you're saying?

Why not wear it??

I think its great! I mean, c'mon you have to be young or somewhat knowledgable in the game of pool to wear a pool branded article of clothing?? I see lots of old geezers wearing jordans or jordan brand gear and yet they cant play the game anymore or they probably cant play worth a lick. Be a fan through and through
