Old Man Cheated

I agree with previous posters,

but this presents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to shame the boyfriend to the point that he'll never want to show his face in a pool hall again. Just follow him around and comment "hey, your girlfriend going to match you up with a 73-year old again?" "Can you win without your girlfriend cheating for you?" and so on.

The key is to be funny about it; not angry or hateful. Just like you're just having fun.

If everyone would quit supporting these crooked handicapped tourneys, maybe they would just all die out.

Maybe Megan and the owner of the pool hall should have this thread forwarded to them......then she can a explain why. Not the kind of advertising I'd want for my place if that's the way it happened.......

I'm curious if we'll ever hear the TD's side of the story.

She can't defend what she did
This thread is completely accurate and it was posted on Facebook by another player. I'd love to hear it explained, if she can explain this she needs to be in Washington . Check out Mike Slaughters Facebook page

peteypooldude...Since it was your father-in-law, I would certainly hope you contact the owner and get his response on this. Not sure what to expect, but a public apology to him is in order...as well as barring either of the offending people from that room...forever! Disgraceful, to say the least.

Funny story about Gatlin and the old mans first match
The old man breaks on the hill(loser break) and makes the7 on the break which is one of his hot balls. Fast forward ... The old man is getting ready to shoot the 8 in and Gatlin informs him that the 7 he made on the break had to be spotted back up lol The old man fell for it but when he shot at the spotted 7 ball (that didn't have a pocket) he caroms in the 9
Talk about Carma

Stopped playing in tournaments years ago its either 2 am and your not yet in the money or the tour (director) makes more than the winner I would rather play with friends or shoot alone than give these assholes $100 to play in there tours

This wasn't a tour, it was a house tournament.

I have heard of people getting bumped up in level, as we all have. But to have some TD put their other half back in a tournament they were out of, is just the bottom of the barrel.

If a player is better than their current level you adjust accordingly and move on. We all know what this was.

I would have told them to advance me...and I will play going forward at whatever rating they deem fitting......If they said no I would have demanded my money back...no way I would have replayed that match

Recall something similar, minus the personal conflict of interest here, happening during a NYC handicapped tournament. Apparently the player in question was a first time entrant and was handicapped via being vouched for by another player. It was quickly obvious that he was two balls above what he and his buddy claimed and was making very quick and efficient work of some pretty decent players.

Into his third match he garnered a lot of attention and the TD took notice by watching his match very carefully. Well, the player apparently wasn't clever enough to back off a little and after a few games the TD called him aside and offered; 1) to return his entry fee, or 2) move him up a notch (or two) and have him replay his matches. He argued...and took back his entry fee.

Also recall my first time playing in another tournament, was given a fair (IMO) handicap and during my first match was playing very well and was up a few games when my opponent called over the TD, who stood next to my table watching my play until my entire game broke down and I almost embarrassed myself. Never did well at that tournament.

I just posted on their facebook page, asking if they knew this older gentlemen was cheated. :grin-square:

Thats complete horse sh1t.

Not surprised though. People do all sorts of shady stuff. Count your blessings that you are now aware the TD is a piece of crap and you can avoid dealing with her/them in the future.

I don't know, but if I got my arse whooped by a 73 y/o half blind man rated as a APA 3 in a local tourney, the last thing I'd do is ask my girlfriend to "disqualify" him and then make him play me again.

I think I would have just gotta out of there fast, waited for the GF to get home and tell her about the bad headache I had that caused me to lose to the nice old chap :)

but, yeah, complete BS. If I was the old guy I would keep reminding the other guy every time I saw him that "hey, no worries, I'll go easy on you next time... and by the way, you GOT the 6"

I wouldn't waste my time in this tournament again, and I'd probably have a talk with the room owner and/or manager to let them know what happened. This will look bad on them and they may have no idea she did it.

Now that right there makes a lot of sense. If you are anything close to how I feel about things, I couldn't let it rest with the way things turned out and it were me involved.

I'd make darn sure that I outted the Btch every chance I got.

She put him up to a 5 and that required him to replay a match against her BF, right. I don't quite understand the higher workings of how tournaments are run sometimes but it was a cheesy ploy to get her BF back in. Is this correct?

Either way, I would never support a tourney run by this person again, I would tell every player who would listen and lastly, I would make sure that the room owner knew every detail of the cheesy move and let him know that I would be relating the story to others and not patronizing his room if she were allowed to run an further tourneys.

Man, I'm close to 15 to 2000 miles away from you and my butt is burning over this.

Whats age got to do with it

Age has nothing to do with it.If he is a 3 its very bogus. But the age thing is irrelevant . I know players older than 73 that on that scale are 12s. PSBOYFRIEND WASNT Jesse i hope.

Handicaps should ONLY be based on entry fee. Once you're in, you play even.

If you're a low rated player, you pay less to get in. That's my opinion. Otherwise, what the heck is the sense of getting better?
