On The Road Again with Perfect Aim....

Many have tried to stay on the road but few can.

They better be able to win many tournys or the money will get real short real quick.

Action out here dries up real fast with info from the internet.

I get action but not enough to sustain $1000 a week expenses.

I get a good game out here I will bet it up and it will be with my own money.

Don't have a traveling backer. Wish I did but I don't.

The good news is when i play i make it all. But then again lose it all.

The secret is as you know matching up.

Usually I am playing on their table, with their cue ball and their own poolhall.

The players like yourself that play pro speed or better are off limits for me.

There is usually about 5 or 6 top players in each big city that will gamble and play pretty sporty.

I play most of these guys when I go to a town and usually can get the cash. But if i had to rely on the action to pay the bills my trip would have been over a long time ago as is with most of the road players today.

it's a different animal than it used to be.years ago.

I would like a break down on this 1,000 a week expenses please.

No he would rather drive 7 hours to Charlotte, NC to try to book some lessons in a city with a big population and possibly find a small local tournament or get real lucky and find some random action for myself or for himself, than to drive 10 1/2 hours to Indianapolis where we can find definite action for both of us and a definitely big tournament that he has a good chance of winning, but not at the expense of a very low chance of booking any lessons.

Basically Lessons are our bread and butter they are Guaranteed income, 1 lesson pays for 5 days of motel fees wherever we go. Action of gambling doesn't guarantee anything sometimes you win sometimes you lose. A big tournament is also not a guarantee, bad draws or the way you feel after a long drive could be the difference between cashing or not.

Ok you win all the money gambling and does the lessons! Sounds like a perfect combination. Rhea are you playing at DCC? I don't think Gene likes to go there much he didn't last year.

It adds up...........

I would like a break down on this 1,000 a week expenses please.

$300 per week motel room..$250 if we get a deal?

$300 per week gas..This includes getting there from wherever.

$250 per week

$180 per week table time

$100 per week maintenance on car.

$100 per week medical sometimes $200.

That's $1230 per week and that's just an estimate. Last month I spent 1600 on car repairs.

Even if we trimmed off $200 somewhere it still is at least $1000.

No matter what you do out here the expenses just keep coming and coming like a big animal just eating you up.

I broke a crown off on a front tooth. That's another $1200 to fix.

Rhea needs a tooth pulled. Another $300 to $400.

Can't wait for the van to break down again but it will eventually.

It's hard for a person on not on the road to imagine how expensive it is out here.

Today i will put on about 90 miles on the van.

I hope this helps some of the at home hustlers understand some of the cost.

On days where you don't lose anything you still lose. the expenses just keep coming and coming.

On a day that you lose you really lose.

I figure and this is pretty close, that a player out here needs to make about $120 per day just to break even.

I can't sleep in the car or eat bad food. I can't see anyway to cut any corners here.

Just telling it how it is.

One man a van and the road.........Forgot to mention cells phones. $120 per month and car insurance $50 per month.

I think the 3rd line was supposed to be for food for 2 humans lol

Only two ways to save money for you one the road that I can see. You say you can't sleep in the van, then why not buy or lease a new hatchback with good gas mileage? If your gas est is not too inflated you could save enough on gas and repairs to pay for the monthly payment of buying or leasing.

#2 Buy an RV. But gas will be the same or more and if you buy a used one you won't save anything on motels due to gas and repairs.

There is no way w/o the $200 a pop lessons you or anyone else is going to make it on the road at this time for any length of time. Johnnyt

As somebody else who has "lived on the road" for much of the last 20 years, I can guarantee you that Gene is spot on with his $1000/wk for expenses...and that is being very frugal. It costs me $1000/wk by myself (add another $2-300 if my wife travels with me). That breaks down to about $150/day for everything. Occasionally I can save a few bucks, when a student or friend offers a place to stay. If you haven't done this, then you cannot relate to what it costs to be on the road. :D

In Gene's last post, it appears he is calculating the expenses based upon two people, i.e., the expenses are not $1230/week for one person but for two people.

One significant expense that was omitted in Gene's post is income taxes.

In any event, to break even on $1230/week in expenses, Gene/Rhea need to make about 64K/year in gambling winnings and teaching lessons.

I know exactly what it costs to be on the road...

When I'm working, it's 100% on the road. I haven't even worked in my home state although I did go to a training up in silicon valley once.

While it's not coming out of my pocket, I still pay for it all with the company card and I know exactly how much it is and I don't stay in less than a 3 star hotel.

They're practically slumming it to get by on $1000 a week. Of course I always have a rental car too because I have to fly wherever I go.

I'm flying to Kansas city this Sunday...

With all of the expenses I doubt any taxes would actually need to be paid. All of that stuff he mentioned (or most) is considered a legit deduction as they are expenses directly related to his earnings.

His list kinda sounds like everybody elses,, rent , gas, electric, health insurance. I commend him for doing his thing.

you will never make any money on the road putting up on AZA when you will be in town and then tell everyone on here how much you beat them for and sometimes using their names, calling them fish. But your not really on AZB for making money on the road playing pool, your here to sell perfect aim. Johnnyt

Yeah, there's definitely some bad customer service in the camp....

Why?????? How's that any of your business? If you have no stake in this I know what I would tell you

None of your business is what he should've told you. It's not like he's traveling on your money. It was rude as hell. I'm not getting in to a back and forth. It is what it is

Untrue.

Gene has said the point of this thread, including his rants about smoke, are intended to give us all an accurate account of what life is like on the road.
If he is going to include his rants about smoking he should have no problem answering questions about his expenses... and he didn't.

Try keeping up with the discussion if you want to participate.

Unless I can get a handle on this our time on the road is going to be cut real short soon.

And it's not a matter of losing money sometimes but just not being able to make it when the timing is right because of bad decisions.

And i don't care how much a player wants to play the game, if you can have your fastest horse run the race for the cash you need to do it.

One man a van and the road........

They did warn you, Geno. Hope you two have worked it out.

Gene I post the below thread,Plus a few others on JoeyA ... Thread

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=334694&page=2

JoeyA . tell Gene ... The starting cost for repair can be $100.00 a hour. By the the time you buy the essential accessories, that can run $1000.

Wife and I just finish a 10,000 miles coast to coast trip, calculated cost whether to use our RV or our Fiat 500. We estimate $150.00 a day either vehicle. We opt driving the Fiat and staying at Best Western. Total travel day 28 days.

Class B 30 gal gas tank avg [at the time] $4.00 a gal = $120.00 Fiat 10 gal tank =$40.00

RV camping $20.00 to $80.00 a night Motel $89.00 to $125.00 a night

Food we use a cooler

Not matter which way you either dump at motel or you hook up hoses to dump at RV site. RV Holding est. 3 to 5 days

This could be Gene Road song.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Orn7xAEKov4

I was reading some of the post from Geno with all the things that bother him. Its either smoking, sleeping, or maybe even noises from someone touching computer buttons. Dont know if its a word but I think Geno has GENOPHOBIA.
