I went to Orange Ball Billiards to watch Mike Segal do some trick shots and hear him talk alot.

After he was done with the trick shots he was excepting challenges so i stepped up and got to play him first. Funny but he tried to make me nervous by saying that if i missed it was a thousand... There's a big crowd watching and yadda yadda yadda.. Anyways i hit this absolutely picture perfect textbook 9 ball break.. Make three balls and parked the rock dead smack in the middle of the table. I was all smiles when i say the layout unfold until.... The 4 ball came hard of the end rail and kicked the cue ball in the top left pocket!!!!

I dont mind scratching (we all do) but on the break against a champion??? I was furious but stayed calm about it. When Mike got cue ball in hand i yelled out, "Thats good Mike.."

Overall it was a great night and i got to meet a lot of great people and players. Even Bobby Chamberlian showed up to try and match up with the Mouth..

Good times

Good thing you only had to play Mike Segal.... and not Mike Sigel, right? :D:D:thumbup:

My friend is the one who scheduled all this for Sigel. He asked me to come out but I told him that the one time I met Sigel, he was a total jerk to me. First impressions, you know. Funny thing is that it wasn't in a match. Sigel was selling cues at Valley Forge a few years ago and I went up to his booth and said, "Mr. Sigel, I'm a big fan and your cues are beautiful." He said, "yeah, yeah, ok, I gotta run" and rolled out  I hope he has changed a little.

Dont hold you breath. He wasnt exactlly a jerk but some of the things he said could've been put better. No offense to Mike but when we were playing there was a six nine combo in the corner and he said, "No worries i wont shoot that combo.." What do you know he goes and slams it in. Why would you say that and then do it??

Personally and to toot my own horn a little bit i think i might have spooked him a little with my break and he didnt want to let me get back to the table

After he was done Bobby Chamberlain was trying to talk him into a game of Straight Pool.. Race to 250 for $500. Mike said.. "oh no... It would have to be for at least $15,000-$25,000"

Even if he really did want to play for that much i would put my money on Bobby for sure

After much convincing, I stand corrected. Bobby has a chance against Sigel :)

Sounds familiar

Like my one shot at Karen Corr. Same deal, exhibition at Breakers in Herndon last Spring. I finally get my turn crush the break, make three balls and whitey gets kicked in the side. Yes, Karen did run out the six balls with BIH!

Wish I'd known that Sigel was in town, would have tried to make it up there. Never been to Orange Ball but I hear it's a good place.

I want the 6

Awesome!!! I bet you where very elated and proud. Bless you..

Bobby has no chance to beat Sigel in a race to 250 straight pool. It's Sigel's best game and he's one of the best straight pool players in history. Bobby's a rising talent, but they're not in the same league. 9 ball, 10 ball, or maybe 8 ball, Bobby's got a good chance. Not straight pool unless it's a race to 100 and Bobby gets the first good opportunity.

I agree. I'm surprised Sigel turned down the game. He must have been pressed for time.

Years ago when I lived in Chicago, my friends and I went to a tournament, I think the US 9 Ball Championship. Sigel was my favorite player at the time. When we saw him, he did not seem friendly at all, and when we talked to him he acted as if we were wasting his time. Since then I have no time for him, but do respect his pool playing abilities. In the same tournament, we watched Nick Varner, fight from way behind against Howard Vickery to get to hill hill. On the last game he jumped a ball and banked the five ball across the side, but then he hung an easy eight and loss the match. When he was done we went over to him, and told him we had been pulling for him. Although you could tell he was disappointed that he lost, he thanked us for the support. He sat there and talked to us for the longest time, signed autographs, and acted like the caliber of person and champion he is. Years later at Preacher Feeney's pool room, Nick and Ewa Mataya (at the time) were doing an exhibition, and playing everyone a game of nine ball. I played Nick and missed the one ball and he ran out. When I shook his hand, I told him my name and mentioned that I had met him a few years ago at the US Open. He laughed and said, I remember, that was where I hung the eight. That my friends, is a class act.

Mapman,

I think you're mistaken. I just spent the afternoon with Sigel. He openly admits that he doesn't play straight pool anymore. Only practices for the World Tournament each year and hasn't done well there. I would put my money on Bobby without question if they were to play in a couple days.

Give Sigel a couple months and it might be another story.

I noticed that Bobby Chamberlain was at Big Daddy's in Glen Burnie last night right at the end of Mike Sigel's 14.1 seminar. Was he there to challenge him again after Mike already said he hadn't been playing straight pool? If so...not a class move on Bobby's part in front of a paying crowd!

Truth.

Heck, Sigel got beat playing even against Josh Degler from Orlando.

Who is Josh Degler? EXACTLY mah point. It was in 9 ball, but in reality, Sigel plays shortstop speed in all games now.

How far the mighty have fallen.
