One pocket

It went from the game I found most boring to watch,
to the game I find most interesting.

It's fun to guess what the players might do.
If you've played just a little it helps.

It does need to be top tier players who shoot aggressively.
With lesser players, when you end up with the balls at the top of the table
(the wedge), they may occasionally sell out a full table bank but they
miss it, then the other guy knocks it away and we're back to boring.
But in the accu-stats event recently, when Orcullo played, it seems like every time
he had a look at a full table bank he drilled it.

Guys like that don't allow games to drag on for 2 hours.

Definitely more participation than spectator,............. But I can watch a few good players (for awhile). There is only a few I'll play 1 pocket with.
(not saying I'm PRO here, just can't tolerate most for a whole set).

i believe

one pocket is a lot like billiards in one way, if you really don't understand either game, then at times you really don't know when the player made a good shot.

example is when the guy shoots a bank that doesn't go in his pocket, and the railbird thinks he misses the shot, but what someone that doesnt play one pocket can't see is the fact that the player moved a ball near his pocket, played safe and left the other player froze on the back of the rack of balls.

many that don't like one hole, just really do not understand how to move, the game is a bit more complicated than 8 or 9 ball.

I enjoy playing one hole with the elder players. They have a completely different strategy than the younger players, like myself. I was taught to play one pocket by a group of guys, in their late 70's/early 80's. I was introduced to the game the old way. I didn't play as aggressive as I do now, until I started matching up against younger players.

I agree 100%. The guys that don't like it, don't know how to move or when they are getting set up in a trap. Once you have the one pocket knowledge and mentality to bump the cue around or start shifting the balls, then it becomes fun!

Right now I'm getting ready to take my next 1p lesson at 1 pm. Can't get enough of it. Most interesting game on the planet. Rather play & learn than watch it. However watching pros play is a show.

Good post and thread. AZ needs more threads of random opinions of topics discussed 10 million times on here. Also the all caps is a nice touch. Kudos.

I LOVE TO WATCH POOL.BUT I WOULD RATHER WATCH PAINT DRY THEN WATCH ONE POCKET.WONDERING HOW OTHERS FEEL?:boring!

I am in the pool hall on the 3 shimmed gc we gamble on.Practing long rail banks at pkt speed. A younger strong 9 baller says just what you said. I responded you need to play the game enough to appreciate it. He says me and C play all the time. Well i know C doesnt know anything about 1 hole, so I said learn l like I learned-10 a game you get 8/7. Well he knows I cant beat him even playing 9 ball so he says thats cheap enough I will try you some. He beat me 8 games in a row! I said hey lets dbl. The bet.Well I beat him 3games in a row and he says" hey lets just call it even, this game is just to boring for me.How come you dbled up after I beat you 8 straight?"
I told him he had got away with things in the early games that would eventually cause him trouble- like shooting a shot that couldnt get him over 2 balls,at the risk of selling out the game. The next night I walk in poolhall and he meets me with a big grin on his face and 500 cash He beat another 9baller playing 1hole.He says "fool kept shooting at his hole"! A little knowledge goes a long ways, watching,or playing.
