What is the guaranteed cash for making the team? Is it $10,000 dollars?
Good summation. I agree with the Justin pick as well.Big fan of Oscar here, and his selection would have been within reason, but I'd have taken Justin Bergman over him.
In order, SVB, Dechaine, and Skyler finished top three for automatic qualification. That left two wild card picks and I felt that it came down to Oscar Dominguez, Justin Bergman, Rodney Morris, and Josh Roberts (who recently beat both SVB and Dennis Orcullo at the Texas Tornado Open and also played well at the US Open).
Rodney finished fourth in the points, so it's tough to argue with his selection, but the last pick was surely a tricky one for Coach Wilson. If Mark wanted to go with the hot hand of late, he might have selected Josh Roberts, but both Bergman and Oscar had a better year, so it likely came down to those two for the spot.
With Coach Wilson present, each had a chance to show their stuff at the US Open and Oscar Dominguez went two and out while Justin Bergman dazzled, winning his first three matches, and then taking both David Alcaide (Euro Tour #3 and US Open 5th place) and Dennis Orcullo (US Open 4th place and a living legend) to 9-9 before falling 11-9. Mosconi is about one's ability to compete with the most elite and Justin showed, in the biggest event on the American pool calendar, that he has what it takes.
Mark Wilson got it right as I see it.
That's correct.
There is no doubt in my mind about Justin's ability but Oscar is often overlooked and always top 6 in points each year. Reminds me of Thorsten being number 1 in the world and not getting on the team. Oscar has a ton of heart and is a grinder. Why even do the points when we know who are best 5 are already. It's a good way to get people following the cup all year, brilliant move getting the rabbits to chase that carrot.
Sometimes in life you have to make decisions that you may not like but you do so because it might help you in the future ,I personally feel bad for Oscar. I've known him for a long time (since before he even considered becoming a pro). He has a lot on the plate between his own tour, his pro appearances, his work at home and his upcoming wedding. He started off great this year on MC points and I expected him to make the team.
Aside from my personal feelings, he chose this life as a pro player. With that comes this sort of disappointment. If he wants to make the Mosconi Cup, he has to clinch it. If not, he throws his fate to the wind.
Chasing a dream and making a living are two different things. For a 10K (losers) or 20K (winners) purse, it may not be a worthwhile pursuit.

He along with Shuff n Sossei collaborated not to go with the team to England last time
IMHO a very stupid move I know Brandon and talked to him about it and I told him I didn't think that was a smart move ,, in life to succeed you have to do things you don't want to do ,most pool players play pool because they want to do what they want when they want renigades sorta speak every man for himself
If I'm putting a team together and it comes down to pics I'm remembering that if it's close I'm certainly not taking a player that snubbed me

In my opinion, expecting the players who didn't make the team to go to England was ridiculous. If I was in that position I wouldn't go either and i think it was dumb to expect them to. They are high level competitors that didn't make the cut. If someone doesn't understand that then they have never been in that position or they are a lot more accommodating than most professionals. If someone holds that against them they are probably a nit. (I am sure if Earl had tried to make the team and got cut he would have been more than happy to fly to England to be a cheerleader, he probably would have brought his PomPoms.)
Fear not USA Fans, I'll pick up the slack!

You should get on Facebook and read what the players that aren't picked post in the years past. Doesn't stop them from getting considered or on the team. And all the players that had the MC team carrot dangled in front of them and then were asked to be team coaches or whatever chose not too. Not just oscar. And it wasn't like Mark thought it important enough that he chose a replacement for Oscar and others once they chose not to participate. That would have shown me something.
Let me just say that after Paul Harvey and a few others speak then you will know the rest of the story. But it will be after the Mosconi Cup. Food for thought if Oscar would have passed Rodney in Kuwait tournament Rodney would be watching on TV and Oscar would be on the team . Again why would Justin not go to Kuwait to
Better his position and make the team ?? Perhaps Because he already knew and had been told he was on the team.
