Players not being paid at US Open

Pool needs a Benevolent Benefactor. We are in such a sad state that if one good deep pockets person stepped up to the plate and offered to put up some decent prize money then the others would (reluctantly) come along as well. I'm not talking about a sham like the IPT but a few tournaments a year that added $75K. I believe some investor will make this happen in the near future. All one has to do is look at the rise of Pool in other countries to see its popularity. Professional bowling was saved a few years back and I think pool could be saved as well. Just good old fashioned 8 ball could do the trick.

Good old fashioned 8 ball? My earlier post didn't generate much interest here...but in March there will be an 8 ball open held at Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City, Oregon. Diamond bar boxes. $10,000 paid to the winner...and the check can be cashed in the casino. Keep checking with the Western BCAPL for details.

You can make out that check now....to SHANE VAN BOENING! He somehow manages to pick up all the loose change he finds laying around in the pool world.

Actually, the organizers are hoping that this money will attract SVB and other top players. In the 9 ball event, held last week, Rafael M. took $6,000 for first, plus more in the Calcutta.

I'm hoping Lenny gets the stream. He did a great job for the 9 ball open and the following BCAPL championships.

He could probably make a little extra on the side, too. Lots of people would want to try him out, with a spot I'm sure, for something, just to say they did. Heck, I may even do that.

Lenny did a great job the first time around. They were on the fence about having him do the next one, but I think all of the feedback they received may have changed that. Either way, he's beginning to know some of the players now and has made enough friends at the event that can bring him up to speed pretty quick if need be. I'll be going for 8b and I hope to see him there yet again.

They will still come

If players come from all different areas to play in Mike Zuglan's $25,000 added Turning Stone event, I think they would still come if the US Open was a $25,000 added event.

The US Open is a prestigeous event on namesake alone. The added money doesnt influence players one way or another who seek to have that title on their resume.

I think its all about I want to be recognized as 'I have the biggest money added tourney around'. I think thats all egoism.

I dont think one needs to advertise 'Im adding a gazillion dollars to my event' if the prize funds are not readily available to the players ASAP.

One can do that as long as one follows through and payout on what was 'advertised'.

It means nothing if one does'nt. And this is the negative reaction that it gets.

The players don't get 'gassed' up anymore. They're not falling for the 'banana in the tailpipe' anymore. Lol.

The players are still going to come.

Not because they can't see 'the forset for the trees' but because they know that the money will eventually arrive at some point and time and can use it.

I believe its subliminally agreed that 'delayed money is better than NO money'.

Whatever has worked in the past to get the players paid promptly, should have been exercised from that time going foward.

If it isn't broke, don't fix it.

The car shouldnt have stalled out again.

JA's cleared, but he wasn't part of the 24 who got delayed.

i hope, that if all the players cash their checks on Barry's bank account (instead of depositing into theirs & waiting 3-5 days clearance), that all will cash.

What bank does BB use?

You West Coast guys better get up real early too. Euros and Asians-not sure what your situation is. Good luck to all.

Nope. Not at liberty to say. But I stand behind my words.

Well I wouldn't put it out of the realm of possibility but we both know the "if I tell you I'd have to kill you" line makes all such claims hard to verify.

Let's all hope the mystery government commands more businesses to sponsor pool.

Not sure where your info came from but he wasn't issued a check.......

i played in 2008

Sounds like fun, but not the case. He's owed by Brady not Barry and has played in the Open at least twice since 2003
when the problem occurred, with Brady..
***(I'll give you this much, he did take a few years off before he played the Open again).

Danny played in the U.S. Open in 2008 on TV table against Rodney Morris.
He also played in 2009 on the TV table against Charlie Williams.
I have the DVD's.

The Mid Atlantic 9-Ball Championship was in Jan. 2003, that's the tournament he is
owed money from.

P.S.
Everybody is saying why if the players this year are owed money why aren't they saying something ? This is a perfect example !
Danny said something about not being paid on time then, and is still waiting from 2003. That's why no one is saying anything now !!!

Lost a close one to the "Rocket" Rodney Morris, my next match was against charlie. Brady (who always helps berry run the open) came up to me and wanted to shake my hand before my match (be my buddy - meanwhile he owed me $1,250.00.) I shook his hand and to this day I still don't know why. Difficult to play your best game when one of the promoters of the event owes me $1,250.00 from a sanctioned pro event - i played poorly against charlie after seeing brady. I should have never played in the Open that year and will never play again - even if Brady decides to man up and pay his debt that he lied to everyone on this forum about. I gave my word to Barry that I would not tell that he paid my entry on behalf of his son's debt - I am officially breaking my word to Barry Berhman. Barry paid my entry fee for the 2008 but his son brady still owes me. The last thing Brady said on his forum was that he admited he lied to me and the readers of this forum about the $ he owed me and that I would get paid. If your reading this - brady behrman - I never got paid. I told Jam (who knows brady evidently) I would settle the debt with Brady for $500.00. left my address like normal - no response from scumbag brady Behrman. Thought I played charlie the same year and not on the tv table. I am not afraid of any of their thugs from Virginia so send them Brady or Berry I know you don't have the guts to come up here to cleveland and talk to about it man to man. So I only played once after getting screwed from Brady and not twice and Berry was involved as he paid part of his son's debt to me by rewarding me with a free entry into the open. I only fell for it once and I won't be stupid enough to play their game again.

Don't worry about the thugs. They probably quit when their checks bounced.

Danny I am watching the 2009 match between you and Charlie Williams right now and Jay is commentating.
He brings up the fact that you didn't play for 6 years or so until the year before which was 2008 and your first year playing in some time.

Jay also mentions why you didn't play for a long time and that it was because Brady didn't pay you when you finished
3rd (Jay thought) in Brady's tournament. He also said that you still haven't been paid. Danny D. said he didn't want to say,
but Jay said he was, and he did.

Ok thanks for clarification, bottom line I will not ever again compete where one of the main promoters owes me a great deal of $. I don't consider the free entry that Berry gave me into the open any real compensation for brady's outstanding debt - so you could say that brady still owes me alot of cash - but he does not care. What is more important to me is that this kind of behavior does not keep happening to other pro players. So again Berry or brady can send the thugs to do something to me, I just ask for a fighting chance, the full amount owed oh I forgot through all the b.s. just what that monetary number is I also forgot when I played in their virginia open. When a player competes in a professional pool tournament and cannot get paid they(Frank Alvarez) make the player out to be the bad guy for just being interested in receiving compensation for travel expenses. Alot of people are not aware that in brady's tournament there was once again no $ in escrow to protect the little guy / pro pool player. This tournament was sanctioned by the UPA, Blackjack offered to pay the outstanding debt, I don't understand why he would offer to throw $ at me for something that did not pertain to him other than the military has extra $ to throw around - so I refused his offer. I cannot even remember how much the punk brady owes me as I have tried to forget anything to do with nine ball and their putrid us open event. I have nothing else to say about this until next year when the players checks from the us open bounce again. I don't understand why Berry would allow his son to continue to help coordinate the us open when brady still owes me a great deal of cash?Bottom line is brady will never pay what he owes and I was patient for many years before i decided to post about it on this forum.

Danny,
At the time, I offered to pay that debt in an attempt to solve your problem. Your problem could have been easily solved ... but you went out of your way to prevent it. Sit back and think about it ... if you weren't such an ungrateful, whiney, uncooperative jerk - this issue would have been settled a long time ago. Like somebody else I know - I'd rather be ate by a goat and $hit off a cliff than to ever put a dime into your pocket. All these years later, I am absolutely convinced that you don't want that money half as much as you want something to complain about. You blame Brady Behrman - you blame Charlie Williams - you blame Frank Alvarez - and now you blame me ... the only reason you still haven't got that money is because of you and your $hitty attitude. You are impossible to deal with - and there is nothing that anybody will ever do that will make you happy. Like it or not - that's the truth.
