I used a looking glass,and sanded mine
I think we have examples of a yellow and a white- micarta. I sanded my Runde, and a joint from knife man all I see is a little color diff. - both sanded the same amount off with 220,400. I plan on using my Joint sized piece soon- will post later- Bert Schrager used this stuff a lot!!!

I must say, you are right about one thing. This stuff finishes up sweet. I took a ferrule blank and stuck it in the lathe and hit it with some wet 320 and wet 600...looks great..about the color and grain look of ivory. I think you can see it here..I only polished 1/2 of the ferrule, and only for 2-3 minutes.

Just got mine in the mail today. I'm gonna go to the shop and install one first thing tomorrow and go try it out. So far, it looks good to me, and I'm keeping it.
Hi Percy ~ Some of the Micartas WH made (recipes) is easy to identify the asbestos (not based on it rather used as a preservative) in other words - it just ages more to the Liking than SOME recipes that dont contain it. The majority of poular WH Yellows in recent years~ Does Not Contain it. The Famous Yellow Paper in the Antique gold or True (1st.) Ol' Yellar" such as the Airplane propellers does contain it. The Desirable 'Ivorite' they Scrim on, in Lemony Yellow like Bowles Randalls - Doesn't contain it for years now, in fact stuff i have that does contain it (in Paper base) doesnt look anything
like a Lemon Yellow (although way older) more Caramel reffered to as White Paper from the 70's. I have a set of 3/8" yellow Linen in the Most favorite Yellows in Linen & i dont think it contains Asbestos So in a nutshell ~ there are a lot of Wivestales in Micarta , Because i've researched more about the Decoratives Than most Micarta Salemen. I will show U pics of the Aged Samples of the Yellow /Linen block i have by Saturday, OK ? it does age & i've even had a complaint saying too quick.

The above I received from Mr. Davis who was a salesman for westinghouse in the late 70' and 80's He specialized in the micarta and is an authority on the subject I have sent him a pice to check out but this is what he sent me telling me about the different micarta's and the way they color.
I will let everyone know when I get the test done and when he and Billy Schick get my sample and return to me their thoughts.

The most important thing to me is not to be able to sell more micarta to cuemakers as I will be happy to use what I have on knives as I have for many years now, but that people realize I sold just what I said I had to start with. The label proves that as will info from people I have sent it to.
Asbestos or not is not my main concern, as Mr. Davis has said even some of the older stuff did not contain asbestos. The golden color is what knifemakers wanted when it aged and that is what I have and what I have used over the years.
I know this is a long running debate and am sorry for any trouble this has caused anyone. Bear with me as the day and night time drama continues on is it or is it not good stuff to use on ferrules.

I received mine and it looks identical to some other WH Micarta I had purchased elsewhere not too terribly long ago. You have been a pleasure to deal with and when I need a new knife, I will give you a call.

Good to hear Nick. I just ordered some that are getting sent out for a sneaky project and cant wait. if I like what I get, I will definitely be a repeat customer.
On a sidenote, Percy seemed cool as hell and knowledgeable on the phone when I spoke with him yesterday.
There were two 2 people that bought it before the pictures were up.
They were offered a refund but both refused saying they were ahppy with what they got and thought it was exactly what I said I had. Which is the original old yellow paper base westinghouse micarta.
No one else has as except Fast_N_Loose and he got his money back I did not keep the shipping or paypal fees out I sent it all to him.
If you looked at the picture that is what I was selling and that is what you got.

LOOKS CREAMY WHITE..... JUST LIKE THE PAPER BASED MATERIAL THAT SCHON USED IN THE 80'S DOESN'T IT?

I have purchased quite a bit of this material from Percy.
Since I intend to resell most of it at some point in time I can't have any
doubt regarding the authenticity of the material.
Therefore I too will have one of the pieces tested for asbestos content.
It will cost a bit (tests are 55 Euros here) but I hope a positive test
result will alleviate anyone of any lingering doubts.
I haven't received the shipment yet but it will be here any day.

Member HDR10 suggest that I offer a refund minus a 5-10% plus minus the shipping. My statement to that is I have cut up over 1500.00 dollars worth of knife handle material to make these. I showed the picture of what I was selling and that is what I shipped. If I had misrepresented my product I could agree with his statement, but I did not. And also I did not cut this material up hoping to sell it, I cut it up after people ordered it.
I hope everyone that has spent money on this product likes it. It is exactly what I claimed it to be old yellow paper based westinghouse micarta. The label verifies that issue.
I don't misrep my knives and I didn't misrep this either.
