Please Tell What Really Nice Thing Has Happened To You As A Direct Result Of AZB

There has been *many* very nice things that have happened to me as a direct result of being on AZB.

Finding some great equipment, good ideas on ways to improve and all of the other interesting discussions that have taken place regarding our sport have been enriching.

One thing in particular, however, sticks out for me.

Approx a year or two ago I posted that due to a cue theft, a friend of mine was looking for a decent cue in the $200-$300 range and within an hour of my posting the cue wanted ad, a well known az member (he will remain annonymous here) pm'd me that he had a cue which was "in nice shape" (turned out it was in perfect shape) and that he wanted to *give it* to my buddy for free. I objected but he insisted and wouldn't even accept reimbursement for shipping. What a kind and generous act this was!

My buddy was bowled over by this AZ'ers kindness and wrote him a thank you note and we included a picture of Joe with the cue. He still uses this cue regularly.

When something like what's described above takes place here, it reminds me why I come here pretty much every day.:cool::smile:

Nothing wrong with a little positivity for the holiday season. :grinning-moose:

So what really nice things happened to you here on AZ?

best,
brian kc

I have played in big tournaments, and played pool with people all over the world, literally, c/o the azb.

I'm almost hesitant to respond to this thread, because I'm sure I'll leave someone out.

You know who you are.

I have met a great deal of people through AZB and also have been able to do something I love with streaming and pool media because of it. I try to give back when I can with always streaming pool free for viewers and doing giveaways. I appreciate what Mike and Jerry have done and hope they end up in the BCA HOF for the promotion of pool they have done through this forum. :)

I made several new pals, too many to list but at least one in particular deserves mentioning.

Dean Campbell, aka Deanoc.

He's become more than just a buddy and I think of him as a dear friend. In turn, he's introduced
me to Bob Owen and Jerry Rauenzahn, both of whom have become pals only because of Dean.

Another wonderful experience is I made the acquaintance of Joel Hercek entirely because of Az.
He reached out to me providing his contact information and I was able to discuss cue-making with
Joel and of course, his waiting list that he explained he had to close since it was almost 13 years.

My ties with Dean lead to having a few cues made by two cue-makers I adore and for the remainder
of my life, I'll fondly recall my telephone discussions with Joel Hercek which was a great experience.

Interesting. Do you play pool?

Kidding.

But do you think mike and jerry could possibly get into the hof? I think it is undeniable they have reared a major influence in the game, but given their alignment with csi and the fact that hof is majorly political, I have doubts about their chances.

Think Amang Parica...

There was one poster who's son was given a new cue from some one on here and she sent me his old cue to give to a young bot who visits a pool room I play out of.

There was another poster who upon reading about a bad experience I had gave me a generous offer which I just could not bring myself to accept. This gentleman will always be in my thoughts and prayers as he made me realize there are some very good people that would help.a.stranger in a heartbeat.

i have met some really nice people on here
including matt and lenny and about 2 dozen others

also i have bought and sold a few really nice cues
that i wouldn't have found any other way

i also have seen some ronnie o sullivan videos
that were amazing

also i have read some neat stories
and made contacts with people i had not seen in years
also6i got to see interviews with ronnie allen and some friends from
the 60s who are no longer with us
i also like reading stories from san jose dick and guys that

This site's greatest gift to me: Stan Shuffett

I learned about Stan Shuffett and his CTE aiming stuff through this site. It revolutionized my game after six decades of "estimating".

I can't even begin to count the great people I have come to know...online...on the phone...and in person.

Pool playing discussions? Yup.

Cue discussions? Yup.

Buy/sell/trade Cues? Yup.

Fun banter? Yup.

Advice? Yup.

But way beyond that.

Somebody stepped forward and saved me, saved my family, virtually saved my life when I had a serious crisis in my life.

I can't say more.

But I will say my experiences here help maintain my faith in humanity.

These are just a few of the fine folks I have met since my Join date to AZB. I know many more will come to mind and I might try to add their names.
I hope to meet many more as time goes on.

Lotta good folks on this forum. I think I would enjoy meeting most everyone here at a pool tournament. So many good threads in the last 6 months too.
I wish I had time to read them all.
Hopefully 2017 will bring good health to us all and our kin.

Brian KC I hope your health is good too.

I was surprised to make a new vietnamese friend who made my pool-cation in vietnam very enjoyable as he hooked me up with friends and the pool hall despite not being in the same city.
Thank you Ctran

However i've also got scammed by nasty Azers who sold me faulty products and refuse to make things right.

With that said, its still a place for me to enjoy dicussing and checking out pool related stuff.

My 2 cents

YOU sold me my main playing cue. It was exactly what I was looking for.

Got into cue building and have had many nice conversations with one cue builder in particular who has really been quite generous with his time. Hope I can return the favor someday.

Played Mikko in Finland (thanks Mikko! I'll have my head screwed on straight next time. :) )

That's what I can think up in the free minute I happen to have right now, but I'm sure there's much more.

Over the years, I have had wonderful opportunities to meet hundreds of AzBrs, all over the country, and around the world...and help them to improve their pool games! Many have developed into long term friendships!

I've learned a ton here and met some great people!

I was lucky enough to find Shooter08 on here who is local to me and who's helped me with a couple cues including facilitating my custom ordered Runde. Tom's a great guy and I owe him for helping introduce me to Runde cues, let me try his out, and ultimately helped me get my dream cue ordered.

Also dvs who I first met when I was looking for a Chuck Fields case and having no luck. After a year of looking he contacted me offering up a beautiful case that is now my daily use case that I absolutely love! He also hooked me up with a special card ;). Dave is one of the best and I'm happy to have met him and thankful that he was willing help me out in finding my dream case!

I was also able to help facilitate the OB Digicue passaround thanks to Shane at OB Cues. Got the awesome training device into the hands of a lot of people and Shane was kind enough to let me keep the test unit when all was done. I'm now sharing it out with people in my league so they can try it out as well.

Finally got hooked up with Scott Lee when he was in town for a great lesson where I learned so much about my stroke and setup. Still benefiting from that experience every time I'm at the table!

Both Jerry and Mike are on the HoF Voting committee so I don't think politics would be the issue.

It sure is sad that Jerry Briesath gets NO consideration for his lifetime contribution to the improvement and enjoyment of pool by tens of thousands of interested players. He has deserved to be in the BCA HOF for many years now.

Too many good things to list. Playing tips are great. Just general BSing also good. It's just one big cyberspace pool hall. Even the arguments can be amusing.

An old friend contacted me telling me there was a story in a thread on this site about a match I played against Ginky in the Delaware State 9 ball Championship back in the 90's that I should read. So I checked it out, then lurked for a while & then actually started playing again after being out of the game for almost 16 years so I guess I can credit the site for me returning to the game.

I've also had some interesting interactions in person with some I've met through the site, there are some very good people here.

Oh, I've also recently given up Triangle tips for Dennis Searings new layered tips when I swore I'd never play with anything but a triangle.
