Pool Hall Photos From All Over.

Thorsten

Here is one more pool venue which is the most beautiful one I have ever seen up front and close. It was taken in July 2006 at the IPT North American 8-Ball Championship, Venetian Casino in Last Vegas. I have been to many pool tournaments in the last decade, but never have I seen one as elaborate as this. There was a green room for the competitors with a buffet of food, lounge chairs, a shower, and a massage therapist on site. The event was won by Thorsten Hohman of Germany. I think it was a $2-million total purse, and I can't remember with Thorsten pocketed, but it was prety hefty, at least six figures plus.:)

Thorsten pocketed 350,000 and it was the #1 top play on ESPN Sports Center top 10 that night and it wasn't even televised in the USA. I will never forget that. I was watching Sports Center and all of a sudden Stuart Scott says not a bad pay day for making the 8 ball. 300fiftyyyyyyy thousand. 350 350.

WOW,Wow, and did I say Wow. LOL

This thread has my vote for "Best thread of the year". Thanks for the great pics everyone.:)

This was the first real IPT tourney No challenge match crap) he got paid in full. The next tourney they ran into problems when Efren won the 500k. I could be mistaken but I think I got it right.

Founded in 1884 Booches in Columbia Missouri. Nice older tables and a few snooker tables as well. People come for the burgers. Ranked by USA Today as one of the best burger joints in America. And served on a square of wax paper.

I wonder if this is the oldest pool room in the US?

Here is the Wikipedia write up on the place:

Founded in 1884, Booches is a restaurant and pool hall at 110 S. 9th Street in downtown Columbia, Missouri. Their cheeseburgers, which are served on wax paper, were named one of the top ten burgers in America by USA Today in 2000. In 2005, Jerry Shriver of USA Today included Booche's hamburger on the list of top 25 dishes from his "Down-home Dining" project.[1]

Booches has three full-sized pool tables, two snooker tables, and one billiard table (no pockets) for three cushion billiards play. Booches hosts yearly invitation-only Snooker and 3-cushion tournaments.

Booches is known for the saying "Closed on Sunday, see you in church," among other witticisms posted on their walls, including "Unattended children will be sold as slaves" and "No sniveling." Also adorning the walls are faux-original comic strips incorporating Booche's regulars, team photos of the Mizzou football teams in the early 1900s, and other old-time sports memorabilia.

During the mid to late 1970's, the then-owners of Booche's edited and published four issues of the "Review la Booche", a literary journal featuring poetry, prose, sketches and photographs by contributors of such prominence as John Ciardi, William Stafford, Elton Glaser, Frank Stack and Richard Eberhart, along with local and regional contributors. The review was revived in 1990 for a fifth and final issue.

Booches received its name when its original owner, Paul Blucher Venable, was nicknamed "Booch" as a child by writer Eugene Field. The restaurant has gone through many owners in its time and was male-only until the 1970s. Today, it is a haven for University of Missouri and St. Louis Cardinals sports fans, and has a considerably more family-friendly atmosphere.

This is a great Thread!! Amazing how popular the sport is all over the world!! Beautiful pictures, thank you!

Not exactly a pool hall, this is the billiards room at Hearst Castle in California.
These were recovered by Jerry, the same guy who installed and later recovered my table.

I still remember how good it felt to walk thru these doors.

Not my pics, but that last one has a story to tell. Did the photographer catch the moment of defeat?

I am glad someone finally posted pics of Chris'. I used to live about 15 minutes from there and played there often. A lot of stories there for sure. Not to mention being in the Color of Money film as well and many a great players played there. We should start a Chris' story thread.

Great Screen Saver

Thanks for starting and contributing to this thread.
I saved my favorite pictures to the "My Pictures" folder and set my screen saver to cycle through them.
Great!
