Pool on ESPN

Overall it's a piss poor production and always has been. And the play wasn't so hot either. After watching both players miss shot after shot I changed the channel. I've seen the best women players and these aren't them, Allison and Ga Young being the exceptions.

SPEED OF THE TABLE LOOKS LIKE A RACE TRACK, A 3 CUSHION BILLIARD TABLE IS A BETTER QUOTE. WHEN IS THIS GAME GOING BACK TO THE CLOTH THAT IT WAS PLAYED ON FOR MANY YEARS? :scratchhead:

if you want to go back to "the good old days"
lets get back to 2 shot push out and having to make a spot shot on the 9 to win
thats when men were men
:groucho:

I don't know about all that, but I do know the clap is good for TV.

I was laid up in bed once with the clap and I got a portable TV. :clapping:

I can imagine a lot of the attendees are not remotely interested in pool, and just happened to be at the Casino/Resort and saw there was a televised event going on. Lots of people think most of those shots are pretty amazing, especially when there are more than 2 made in a row. The applause seems to die off before the players get down on the next shot, so I don't mind. What I found annoying were the "bubble" ball overlays placed on screen for the commentators to draw John Madden lines around. Most of the time I couldn't get a good look at the table layout because of them.

On a positive note, Ewa Mataya Laurence showed me how to shoot a draw shot during a commercial break :)

I saw Barretta V Fisher for about 5 seconds.

The women have great business management, it is easy to tune in for a female event on cable.

As for the men well they invest in people which are better left unnamed.

dear audience please stop clapping after every shot!

My 7 yr old likes to play and watch pool with me sometimes. One day while watching a WPBA event, she looked at me after about 10 shots with a bewildered look on her fa e and said, "Daddy, why are they clapping after every shot?". If my 7 year gets it, why don't the producers?

I see all the time how everyone complains there is no pool on TV and how much we need pool on TV to improve the status of pool. Then they finally give you a little pool TV time and just listen to yourselves.

Because ESPN sucks they do a piss poor job showing pool on TV. I for one think that ESPN should take their head out of their *ss and if they can't do a better job than they are then just stop showing pool altogether and stop insulting this great sport the players and fans. This of coarse is just my opinion if yours is different write yours.

That's the sad assumption. It is not.

With the audience silent until a great shot happens the tv listener assumes the live audience must be bored to tears.

The televised IPT matches prior to the finals looked and sounded like the nine audience members were in agony.

No way to prove who is right tho.

I don't know what's worse...the clapping or listening to Mitch lawrence lol

The womens pool league should have girls that can run 3 points in 3 cushion. Some of them do, but it should be a standard. It's not fun to watch when you're sweating if they run a few balls. Then they got to resort to antics to entertain a crowd that claps at every shot.

I think the girls can really draw big numbers to the game but it has to be done different.

That's the result of Steve Tipton. He encourages the audience to clap constantly, even after the player makes a mistake.

This incessant clapping reminds me of the 'canned laugh tracks' they play during sitcoms to let us know something they said was funny. Without that reminder, we wouldn't know.

I like the audiences who typically attend British snooker matches. They seem quite knowledgeable of the game and show their enthusiasm and appreciation when they actually see something good happen.

BTW, did ANYONE notice JL fouling on that 1B kick (no rail)?!?! Where was the TD? The Sledgehammer just walked up & rolled the dice on a 1-9 billiard instead of taking her rightful BIH.

Applause is the result of something exciting occurring, not the cause of exciting occurrences. Anyone who claims the opposite is a.) delusional, and b.) carries the onus to provide evidence.

The assumption here is that non-pool players find the game unexciting. Well if that's true, all the maniacal clappage in the world won't make it untrue. It's groveling and sad and very, very pathetic to watch, kind of reminds me of this:
