Poor Streaming

I guess you can call me spoiled with TAR and a few others, but I'd rather pay and get a good picture and audio than get a choppy, freezing one every few seconds, and bad audio for free.

With so many now streaming their events and tours, sponsors are going to start demanding better quality from the ones that don't have it.

Streaming is good for pool and the ones that put out a good Quality Product should get paid for it IMO. Johnnyt

I totally agree John. I guess most of the venues just don't have enough firepower to support all the demands of the information age.

They have a classy format, nice scoring set-up, but the picture quality just isn't there is it.

ya know... for some reason (probably internet traffic), on my computer, the stream is perfect when they are practicing and there is no audio other than the sound of whomever is practicing, but when it comes time for the match, everything messes up... they cannot handle the internet traffic which is really a shame :(

Streaming is like an 8 Track, Car Music Player Circa 1960's, some day streams will look like Hi Defenition TV, honestly the problem is many of the streamers do not have the equiptemnt of CBS NEWS, and it is unfair to compair streams with CBS Sports Coverage.

Since today's matches are being televised on ESPN, Dragon Promotion apparently thinks they can slack off on delivering a quality video stream. In turn, this inability to deliver a quality product reflects poorly on DP and upon Predator, as well.

Hmmmmmmmmmm.. I have spent the last week watching the TAR stream and I didn't have one problem with the free stream or the PPV's.

Who the hell is comparing streaming to CBS? I compared the poor streaming that is all over the net to the good quality streaming of TAR and a few more, geeeeeeeeeeez. Johnnyt

I have comcast digital and the predator site is an absolute joke to try and watch unless you're looking to get real pissed off. Buffers about 1% every 2 seconds versus TAR's stream which is fast and clear.

It's the amount of internet traffic that causes this. Just imagine if pool could attract thousands of folks. The stream probably wouldn't work at all.

Hopefully, the sponsors will demand better bang for their buck.

I can't complain too much though; I mean, it was free.

I guess I am lucky or whatever, but my stream was perfect and smooth, no issues, I did setup my windows media player to the correct internet speed. Right click, go to options, adjust to the correct internet setting for your speed, or adjust the buffer. Alot of times even with TAR, people will complain about a problem but its in their own hands.

People have to realize that the quality of a stream often has nothing to do with the provider. It isn't dragon promotions or kozoom at fault here. It's probably your local ISP. Or blame internet traffic in general. I suspect how the stream gets routed and how the service provider treats it as it gets routed to your PC are the main things.

The stream was perfect for several hours for me, except for maybe 5 seconds of sound. When I was watching TAR matches on ustream, many people (including me) got choppiness while others got smoothness.

You can't even judge by the ISP because some local branches of Comcast might be great and others not so much. Mine worked well for this stream.

Pretty much a matter of luck if a stream works for you or not I think :/

Good news is I got it captured and hopefully it's gonna turn out OK. I will update here if I get a workable copy. Not sure if that's ok to offer but I'm sure the sponsors want everyone to see the stream as intended.

hmmmm..DAMN!

Spent most of the afternoon with my ISP thinking the problem was with my service...shoulda checked this thread out early..woulda had a better afternoon...DAMN U PREDATOR! lol

theoretically it should not matter how many users are watching an Internet live stream if Server is broadcasting in "multicast" mode.

I noticed too that prior to the semi and finals, the Predator stream was Ok, not perfect but tolerable. On the semis and finals, it was BAAAD!

Wonder what the problem was.

Definitely, not on my internet connection. I have three internet connections, all broadband. All had the same problem and noticed they all had different stages in time. one lagged by as much as 10 seconds.

IMHO, the problem lies at the venue site. If the Riviera doesn't have the capacity to handle that kind of stream, then it is not going to be received well by anybody, no matter what connection or browser you have.

If the evening of the finals, there was another event going on simultaneously that was using the Riviera's connection, that would diminish the capability of the finals to be streamed live.

I am no computer guru, but I think therein lies the problem -- at the Riviera -- and not the streamer themselves. They can't help it if the Riviera's connection sucks. :(
