Preventing cue theft

What do you think the best way to mark your cue is? Something that you would be able to prove it is yours in case it gets stolen, but the thief wouldn't notice. Any ideas?

Put your name on a small piece of paper and put it under the rubber bumper. If It has any noticeable scratches or dings or dents take pictures and file them away.

Most custom cues have the maker's name and date inscribed. He only made one that month!

Place and easily identified mark (brand) on the joint or the butt. Place a special mark inside the butt below the bumper that does not look like an ID, such as a wavy scratch. Photgraph your cue with date and time stamp, inside and out so that it can be shown to cops as your cue.

Another way would be to remove the weight bolt and stamp the screw end with your initial.

i know of a few different ways to do it.the problem is that if the thief knows much about cues he will also know where to look for markings and if he does then he will most likely magically make it disappear.

This is how to properly prevent cue theft.

Well, I've had my cue for well over 20yrs and I love it. No one has ever stolen it so I think I know the best way of all. Just buy a Meucci hahaha :)

No one wants my cue, it isn't fashionable ..... hehehehehe Everyone wants a Flabernaski or something .. ha ... so I get to lay it out there worry free and kick their butts with it to boot. :D

This is the best idea yet.

If they get mine, I'nm going to visit them with a hammer. If a couple of these guys ended up with broken wrists or arms, they may tke a different attitude.

if it is wrapped

put your name under the wrap. Any contact info might help also. That is in addition to one of the other methods listed. Your hope is that the next cue repair guy is honorable enough to recognize that it does not belong to the guy that brought it in and get a hold of you.

Cue marking (linen wraps)

I've rewrapped many of the cues I've owned that had irish linen wraps and I always wrote my name and city I live in on the handle before I rewrapped the cue. If someone tried to steal my cue and it came down to it I could remove the linen wrap and show the cue was marked with my name under the wrap and it would prove the cue belonged to me. This wouldn't work on a leather wrapped cue, but since I can do my own linen wraps it works fine on linen wrapped cues. Linen wraps aren't that expensive to replace if you have a cue that you plan to keep and you want to mark it without your name showing anywhere on the cue unless the wrap is removed.

Treat it like a baby. Don't let it out of your sight. People think I'm stupid when I bring my cue outside on my smoke breaks. Better to carry it around with you than to leave it lying around where it might walk off. I once had a cuetec that walked out the door. Probably the best thing that happened to me, but I was sad when it happened.

I bet no smoker with a nice cue thinks that's stupid. Mine goes to the can with me, too.

I agree. And pllease shoot them in the head not the leg where some poor nurse has to take care of them. Johnnyt

Don't they have tilt alams for cue cases? You could put a cheap one in one of the pockets of your case. Someone picks it up and tilts it a little an alarm goes off. Johnnyt
