problem in my pool hall

The problem as I see it

The problem is that he can take you out of your game with all of this foolishness if you let him but you can't take him out of his since he doesn't play.

The world has changed and not for the better in some ways so the old solution of just ambling over and jack-slapping him in the middle of the bar isn't the best solution anymore. I do suggest going over to him when there is a group of people close enough to hear and ask him what his problem is. Odds are he will crawfish.

However if there is a real problem it is better to know it. If it is over a misunderstanding you can straighten it out. If he has a real beef then things are a little dicier. Going to the owner may get either or both of you thrown out or no action, you know the owner better than any of us commenting long distance.

Talk to the guy with others nearby first. Then you can consider the next step. I often led somebody on a quiet walk in the back of my business and explained how they were disturbing me in a quiet calm voice after throwing a friendly arm around their shoulders once we were away from people. It worked wondrously well for me and I never had to tag anyone I took for a walk. A quiet talk in private away from witnesses is a consideration if the public talk isn't effective.

I've had situations like this happen to me aswell...I never let things like this flounder...if he's at the bar giving you the evil eye or something approach him and ask what his problem is and why the sudden change...if he still acts like a dick just take him outside and give him a tap on the jaw....if he's bigger than you do like I do and carry a solid ash "equalizer" in your case...;)

Hey guy, as a pool owner, I like to handle any drama that comes up in my room.

I think that it is my responsibility to make people feel comfortable in my room.

Most players, especially gamblers do not what to be concerned with child like behavior.

I do not want to lose business because of the same thing, so I make the rules real clear, create drama and you are out for good.

This attitude has gained me more business than I ever lost because of this policy.

Most people will respect these actions from a owner, ever where you go there must be rules.

Talk to the owner or take the situation some where else and deal with it, but do not do it there, that only shows disrespect to the owner / manager of the establishment.

Az'ers need your advice-

There's this guy (we were once cool with eachother) at the pool hall I play at and its been made know to me that he really doesnt like me (never really did) So last night he decides to "start some sh*t" you know mean-muggin me from across the hall, comming up to my opponent at the table and talk crap - trying to take me outta my game. What the best way to handle this? Do I: A. be the better guy and ignore it or B. knock-him-dfck-out. Keep in mind @ this pool hall we are both regulars and play in leagues there.

Thanks

Qjunkie

I choose B. But this was just how i grew up. :D

I Vote for

"A. be the better guy and ignore it"

Solution...

Borrow a van. Park it beside his car, on the drivers side. Take a key & break it off in his door lock. Then when he leaves, his key won't go into the lock. He'll bend over trying to figure it out. Slide the van door open and bust him in the pumkin with the butt of your pistol...then jerk his @$$ into the van for a nice ride into the woods. I'm sure if you do things exactly as decribed above...he'll surely see things your way.:D
Unless he's got one of those new fangled gadgets on his ride and he "beep beeps" and his doors unlock...damn I hate when that happens!!!:( ;) :D

lol, I like your style :)

Just whoop his ass and be done with it. Sooner you do it, the better you will feel. Just like puking :)

if you can't take him, and don't like Varney's excellent advice, get a friend to help. No friends? Then you have nochoice but to take him by surprise. Buckle a knee when he is not expecting in. You would be surprised how a broken knee gives you the winning advantage ;)

Order a giant pigeon to run into him?

3 Options

1) Ignore him, but that will only entice him.
2) Tell him to STFU and get away from you. (80% working chance)
3) Wink at him and grab your nuts (will work everytime ... lol)

I cant believe nobody has mentioned this yet.
How sure are you he is giving you the "Evil Eye"?
Maybe he thinks you are cute, and cant take his eyes off you.

Why is it so hard to just sit down next to the guy (non-confrontationally) and ask whats bothering him? Why do we need to go management for this? They run a bar/poolhall not a daycare. I can't see this guy just totally losing it if you sat down and asked what was wrong.

tap tap tap...exactly.

Ask him, "You're messing with me for a reason...care to share it with me?" This question almost always works to deflect the issue onto him, where it belongs, as it is HIS problem, not yours. This question gets to the heart of the issue....then you can maybe resolve it peacefully. Unless you ask this question, you're just guessing what his problem is.

Make it HIS issue, not yours.

Yep.

If you did something to offend him, which I suspect is the case, he might tell you or might just dismiss it. Either way, you'll bring it to a head. If the issue is really serious, which it doesn't sound like (yet), the room might not be big enough for both of you and one might have to leave, voluntarily or involuntarily. It's better to get back on good terms.

Once we cross into manhood, juvenile antics have no place. Let's face it, we all have big muscles or automatic weapons - it's better to be polite and conduct ourselves like gentlemen.

Doesn't play

If he doesn't play, then you know you can get the owner, or manager to kick him the heck out. I already did that with a dude's wife, cause she wouldn't shut the heck up and it was annoying my team mates. I personally can block that crap out, but it was messing up my team, so I told the manager that I was a paying customer, and she just sat and watched. So he told her to shut up or he would have to ban her from the bar. Problem solved.

Curious as to why you couldn't have asked her nicely to quiet down a bit rather than have her threatened by the owner or mgmt to leave or shut-up. Not saying you were wrong but don't you think she would have obliged had you ask nicely.

Tell the Manager

You could always take the Hawaiin approach and say, "I owe you money or what, Brah? Don't be giving me no stink eye." But seriously, as a manager, all too often by the time I'm called there are already 2 idiots wrestling on the floor. All that's left to do is dial 911, ban both and let the cops file them away. Oh and Mr. Varney if I owe you money let me know.......quick.
