Question About the Streaming of the Jeanette - Vivian match?

I don't keep up on everything 100% but wasn't it TAR that first spoke of streaming the Jeanette Lee - Vivian Villareal challenge match? How did this not wind up in their hands and now going to be shown for free by AZB and is FastLenny involved as well?

Wasn't Lenny previously upset with the Desert Tour for streaming events that he previously had put his efforts into? I recall a whole tirade of threads about that.

Was this match put up for bid? Is this going to be the new business practice for streaming matches?

What am I missing?

What's the beef! You are Missing

The fact that the match is going to be streamed for free.:grin:
I think that TAR and AZBilliards work hand in hand enough that it doesn't really matter who.

That good to hear - I just know it would suck to put forth effort to get a match going and then watch someone else profit off your efforts and idea.
If AZ/Lenny and TAR are splitting things hand in hand, it does work out for everyone.

I read a post from Mark griffin, who is running the CSI nine ball event right at this moment say that Justin is at the cue show with his best equipment.

I believe what is going on is that it was too complicated for TAR or anyone who wanted to do a DVD or PPV of this match because of fees of the WPBA. If no one is making money off the media like AZBTV doing it for free then it is okay. I believe we all work together, during the last TAR PPV with Shane/Frost we sent out a newsletter to the people signed up at OTR which is like 2000 people to get viewers over there and help out in anyway we could because I really like what they are doing for pool and are great guys. I have helped Jerry a few times online and he is a class act and I cannot speak enough about how supportive Mike Howerton has been to me and what I am trying to do. IMO those of us mentioned all work together and have a common goal to bring pool to the fans, sounds almost too good to be true but it seems to be working well.

TAR could not do it because of the cue show. Plus, they are 1500 miles away from the match while I am about 40 miles away, so it just made economic sense for us to do the stream. Whomever was going to do the match was going to lose money and we are in position to lose the least.

As Lenny noted, we streamers all pretty much work together since none of this is turning anyone a profit so there is no need to 'compete'. What I see as the evolution of all this is that those of us who are out there now will eventually see the light and actually 'partner up' in some way to generate a revenue flow. That cannot happen, of course, until streaming progresses well beyond the current level. But that is occurring. All of the platforms like Ustream are introducing improvements and becoming more stable. Crashes are much less common now than just six months ago. But we have a long way to go yet to get where we need to be.

See y'all this afternoon on the stream.

Thanks for the enlightenment. I didn't realize that a challenge match such as this would involve WPBA fees. Were there WPBA fees involved when Sarah played Monica in the all around championship, which also was put on DVD?

These events are simply great and the streaming has really changed the way pool is watched, making events much more global. It is ridiculious that the people putting all these efforts into streaming can't turn a profit. Maybe with more big names like Jeanette getting involved it will evolve into something profitable eventually.

Also, who is John Roussue? I have never heard his name around pool before.

Speaking of the WPBA - I remember TAR agreeing to stream one of their tournaments previously and taking a bath on the endeavor, not really given a fair chance. You would think that a 'make-up' could have been issued here by the WPBA so the stream of a more spectator friendly challenge match could be shown.

Guess TAR also showed the WPBA the ropes on streaming as this match is now free along with some of their events as well.

WPBA is NOT involved in this at all. Why oh why do people keep posting assumptions, rumors, and hearsay as fact?

Instead of starting something about AZBTV possibly stealing it from under TAR but then the WPBA might've gotten involved and stopped TAR from doing it and also the WPBA prevented DVD sales or whatever...why not just ask TAR directly what happened and get the straight scoop?

Instead...this thread begins to insinuate that TAR somehow got screwed...first by AZBTV and then possibly by the WPBA...when the truth is that they are doing the cue show.

Also...while TAR did provide the stream the first time that the WPBA attempted it....that does not mean that TAR "showed us the ropes"...an implication that we learned from them to do it ourselves. Instead...we decided to go with a free streaming service...and AZBTV is doing the streaming...which works especially well since Mike is now a board member and travels to the events anyhow. But there is a definite implication that we took advantage of TAR...and that is not the case.

I'm sorry to rant...but I will not sit back and be quiet anymore when the WPBA is being unfairly spoken about.

The WPBA's non-involvement was already straightened out in another thread.

So then there are no WPBA fees for the JL-VV match since they are not involved? That's good to know.

And Melissa you are upset that the WPBA is mentioned but please re-read this post so you can be clear who mentioned the hearsay of the WPBA and the fees first.

I will state that the two week time for advertising the TAR broadcast of the WPBA would be the biggest factor on why it failed. I am sure you will correct me if I am wrong about that as well.

I never pointed out any one person in my response.

The two week advertising was because it was a test. It was determined that PPV wasn't going to be cost-effective. Instead we decided that a free stream was better suited to the WPBA's goals.

TAR was terrific...and we have no issue with them. Again, we went the most cost-effective route with AZBTV. It's that simple.

Most, if not all, pool folk understand how difficult it is to keep the WPBA running smoothly. I have always admired the WPBA being a transparent organization to its members, looking out for ALL members collectively. :)

There are some members on this forum who empathize and understand how difficult it is to be UNFAIRLY SPOKEN ABOUT. What really sucks is when people try to defend themselves against rumors and innuendoes, they are thereafter "threatened" by the very entities they previously supported. :(

I look forward to reading more about the WPBA in the future. You're an asset to the sport, Ms. Melissa!

wtf? no one was "threatened". it sounds like miscommunication. not everyone has to cry victim!

JL vs VV

Finished the night with JL 2 games ahead. Was up 8 games prior.

Exactly ironman - miscommunication in that a person streaming the event (Lenny) quotes that the WPBA was requiring a fee and the WPBA (Melissa Herndon) stating that no fee was paid.

Only thing I want very clear on this is that we hold no ill will of any kind with Jerry or Mike. By the time they offered to help we had already passed on doing the match and made a commitment to the ICCS.

The reason we passed on doing the match had nothing to do with the cue show. It also had nothing to do with the WPBA.

As for us and the WPBA, I have my feelings and opinions about how things went down but sharing them here wouldn't help anything.

I kept losing the stream. Anyone else have that problem? It would be ok for a few minutes, then it would hangup. I use a Mac.
