Although I'd rather play in pool rooms than an arcade/game room like Dave & Busters, after several friends said they like it there I decided to give it a try and went there. When I inquired why there is only one bridge in a place with over 10 tables the manager said to me, "our customers are good, they don't need a bridge", LOL. Needless to say I haven't been back!!
Unfortunately had a lot of similar stories in D&B and similar establishments. I don't understand it frankly. Is it that hard to keep the pool tables, cues and equipment in shape? Not really.
Not in the pool rooms I owned and managed. It's merely a daily chore that has to be taken care of.
I did once do a bunch of cues for D&B and they were very happy with them. They had two piece cues as house cues that were about $75 retail. Decent cues that looked horrible after half a year of being beat up by the D&B crowd.
Is there such a thing as a portable bridge that one can keep in their cue case?
The problem is, for the average schmuck they should be at least provided the minimum to play the game. Pool may be the only sport you would find something like this. Heck, you can go to a miniature golf course and the people there will know golf. In pool, you may be in a nice room and the workers there not even play or have a clue about the game.

Because a location has pool tables, that don't make it a pool room. Not everyone that plays pool looks at this game through the eyes of a pool player. But its clear the POOL ROOMS in your area must be doing something wrong that you don't have a real pool hall to play pool in, so maybe they should take a few lessons from Dave & Busters...as there doors are still OPEN so that you might still have some place to complain about....and therefore NOT go back to, leaving room for those that just want to have some fun in life, who are not so judgemental

Interestingly, the D&B in our area is in a high-rent district, at the top of a shopping mall. Having eaten there, I don't think their food is what is the attraction, though it's not too bad. They do have salads and non-blood-mud food for the health conscientious. I actually think it's the arcade that is the draw for D&B. A family can go there with children, and there's a little something there for everyone, kids and adults alike.
Pool rooms that only offer pool aren't making it. They have to offer something else in order to turn a proft -- well, at least in my area. A cast of regulars who frequent a neighborhood pool room won't keep it afloat anymore. :frown:
There are idiots in every business, tho this business models target is not pool related, so it's/ignorance is Not surprising at all.
A great comparison....a Newly built New Brunswick Zone, state of the art bowling/billiards/laser tag facility in our area just opened. A good friend of mine was one of the players, and a great guy, they spent about 13 MiL for the ground up build out. He kept up with me via emails and I also got to see their grand opening video/sales/promotional TV spot of the new Biz. They did NOT even mention or show the Four new Gold Crown 9 footers at the end of the LONG Bar they built. Even the table covers were stitched and Brunswick issued with logo.
Typical............
