Quote by the manager at Dave & Busters

Although I'd rather play in pool rooms than an arcade/game room like Dave & Busters, after several friends said they like it there I decided to give it a try and went there. When I inquired why there is only one bridge in a place with over 10 tables the manager said to me, "our customers are good, they don't need a bridge", LOL. Needless to say I haven't been back!!

EVERY pool player needs a bridge.
What else are you going to jump off when you hang the 9?

All the more reason to carry a Moose Head in your case. and not the Canadian drinking kind either. If its the drinking type, you'll need at least a 6 pack of our more potent beer.

Put it on your break cue and instant, Ladies Aide, or Granny Stick, whichever you prefer.

When I was a very young duffer, new to smoky old pool rooms, the guys called them ladies aides. That one kind of stuck.

Unfortunately had a lot of similar stories in D&B and similar establishments. I don't understand it frankly. Is it that hard to keep the pool tables, cues and equipment in shape? Not really.

Not in the pool rooms I owned and managed. It's merely a daily chore that has to be taken care of.

I did once do a bunch of cues for D&B and they were very happy with them. They had two piece cues as house cues that were about $75 retail. Decent cues that looked horrible after half a year of being beat up by the D&B crowd.

I am proud to say I have never been to D&B, and will never set foot in there or any LAME place like it.

They do well here in Dallas, although their revenue from pool is under 3%

They do well here in Dallas, although their revenue from pool is under 3%.....they use the pool tables for private parties so they do make residual income.

The marketing guy that talked to Badi also was talking to Dave and Busters about potential sponsorship for out new TV series......some changes in management took place, and at some point we may re open this opportunity. They were open to taking their billiards more seriously and saw an opening to grow this undeveloped profit center.

When I am in a strange town, and if I don't have a strong local recommendation, I will go to a Dave and Busters or a Fox and Hound, rather than roll up to a biker dive - or worse.

I won't have my cue, and I know the tables and equipment will be mediocre. But they will be generally clean. The food will be decent. Big screen TVs will be playing multiple sports channels.

Not where I go when I am home, but a decent port when traveling.

The bridge comment is priceless. D&B is a restaurant with pool tables, not a pool room with food.

Is there such a thing as a portable bridge that one can keep in their cue case?

The problem is, for the average schmuck they should be at least provided the minimum to play the game. Pool may be the only sport you would find something like this. Heck, you can go to a miniature golf course and the people there will know golf. In pool, you may be in a nice room and the workers there not even play or have a clue about the game.

A few years ago, I had to meet a coworker one day, and she suggested D&Bs. The location was in between where we each live. The guy at the door carded me. I looked at him like he was nuts. Then I didn't know whether I should thank him or give him a tip. He said they have to card everybody, even old ladies like me. :grin-square:

Once inside, it smelled bad, kind of like somebody threw up. I immediately noticed the pool tables, and they were in okay condition from what I could see from afar, but there was not one person playing pool.

The majority of people were hanging out in the arcade, which was noisy, but it was packed.

It is curious why D&B even has pool tables. They sure didn't seem popular, and the people who worked there, I'm pretty sure they haven't a clue how to play pool. :embarrassed2:

Another thing about the D&B in my area, they had a craps table where one can throw the dice. This immediately got my attention, and when I asked about it, the waiter said it does not pay off. Well, who would want to throw dice and not get paid? I don't get it.

Priceless:thumbup:

Have the Dave and Busters allstars mastered the ram shot yet.

Scumbags took my tokens in a Hill-Hill Cribbage match.

My girlfriend left me on the spot because I could not buy her that cute teddy bear with the googly eyes

Because a location has pool tables, that don't make it a pool room. Not everyone that plays pool looks at this game through the eyes of a pool player. But its clear the POOL ROOMS in your area must be doing something wrong that you don't have a real pool hall to play pool in, so maybe they should take a few lessons from Dave & Busters...as there doors are still OPEN so that you might still have some place to complain about....and therefore NOT go back to, leaving room for those that just want to have some fun in life, who are not so judgemental:rolleyes:

Interestingly, the D&B in our area is in a high-rent district, at the top of a shopping mall. Having eaten there, I don't think their food is what is the attraction, though it's not too bad. They do have salads and non-blood-mud food for the health conscientious. I actually think it's the arcade that is the draw for D&B. A family can go there with children, and there's a little something there for everyone, kids and adults alike.

Pool rooms that only offer pool aren't making it. They have to offer something else in order to turn a proft -- well, at least in my area. A cast of regulars who frequent a neighborhood pool room won't keep it afloat anymore. :frown:

It's the changing times, stay ahead...or fall behind dear:thumbup:

I did not have to read past the OP

There are idiots in every business, tho this business models target is not pool related, so it's/ignorance is Not surprising at all.

A great comparison....a Newly built New Brunswick Zone, state of the art bowling/billiards/laser tag facility in our area just opened. A good friend of mine was one of the players, and a great guy, they spent about 13 MiL for the ground up build out. He kept up with me via emails and I also got to see their grand opening video/sales/promotional TV spot of the new Biz. They did NOT even mention or show the Four new Gold Crown 9 footers at the end of the LONG Bar they built. Even the table covers were stitched and Brunswick issued with logo.
Typical............

There's a Brunswick Zone just a couple miles from my house. I stopped in there once...all excited that there would be a couple of GCs.

It had one beat-up Valley BB in the cafe area. But hey, one of the house cues had a tip!

I think Dave & Busters is on to a good business model. I just hope they can continue to justify having pool.

Neither Dave, nor Buster, will miss the annual $100 likely lost due to not having the OP's patronage.

I never understood going some place that doesn't cater to a specific need and demanding/expecting something that 99.9% of the customer base doesn't need or doesn't care about.
