Real what would you do here??

9 ball barbox tourney, don't remember the score, but every game counts. No pushout rule in effect. Your turn, what would you do here??

CueTable Help

I like pushing the 2-ball onto the 1-ball ..making sure you don't leave a combo....will fight it out from here

Would like Black-balled choice if the 4-ball wasn't there...
...extreme left and draw to play it in
Never missed it on a Wei table.

Depends on the skill level of the person I'm playing.

If they were a less skilled player I would probably shoot the 5 straight ahead and try to lag it 2 rails in front of the 7.

Nudging the 2 into the 1 is a possibility but probably too easy for your opponent to lock you up on his next shot.

If I'm playing a better player and felt like I had to hit the ball, I would shoot into the head rail with some right-hand engish spinning the cue ball of the side rail and hope for the best. I'm guessing 30-40% chance of a hit. I might still go with the 5 ball. Hmmmm.

So what did you do?

I agree with tying the 2 up with the one, just be careful not to leave a combo. work it out from there.

I'm thinking I'd try and hit the right side of the 2, sending it off the side (top in the picture) rail with the intent of leaving near the far end rail, hopefully near the middle.

Of course, I suck, but that's what I'd try and do. I do like the thought of tying up the 2 with the 1 if you can block the corner pocket a bit. Coin flip for me as to which one I'd try, I guess.

Neil, I'd go for the hit....in your picture, I'd go to the bottom rail where the 4 is.....I'd hit that first dot, just below the 4, and juice up a lot of left english to bring it back towards the 1.....with a little luck, I get a legal hit....if I juice it up a little much, I still knock the 2 towards the 1 and hope to tie them up....but then again, I lose a lot :D

My first choice would be to tie up the 2 and the 1 but speed control is a must when hitting the 2. My second option would be to shoot the CB toward the foot with a little right english, come back down table toward the headstring railfirst to make contact with the 1.

I like the option discussed... but depending on the skill of my opponent I would hit the 2 ball into the right side of the 1 ball, sending it up table by the 7 ball. That would create some distance between the balls while also creating an awkward angle to get shape on the 2 ball after pocketing the 1 ball. If I get lucky by tying up the 1 and 7 balls then winner winner chicken dinner! If I mess up and also send the 2 ball up table passed the 9 ball then I probably lose... But, I usually trust my gut on safeties and try not to over think them!

Ah hell... Just shoot between the 5 and 8 balls, below the 7 with low left and a very hard stroke. CB should straighten out and contact the 1 ball. If not, you go out feeling good about the shot.

Neil-

I think you need to get lucky.

I like pushing the 2 onto the 1 to slow things down. Have to hope it doesn't line up for a combo. As stated, depending on the opponent skill level, he likely takes BIH, thins the 1 and hides you uptable-now you are on two fouls.

Since the odds lay bad-I think I would take a flyer. Try to hit the one and put it up on the two. You could get lucky with a masse or a hard low left draw to the bottom long cushion and miss the 4, but fairly unpredictable.

I think I would send the cb 4 rails(LR, SR,LR, LR) starting just below your side of the side pocket of the first long rail, try to come off the last long rail near the first diamond (like a 1P escape), push the one softly to the 2/rail, and hope for a better shot. Missing the 3 looks iffy, though.

I don't like the odds on any of them really, but that's probably what I would shoot in that bad situation, and hope to get lucky and hit it good.

I need the official rule from Neil. Bar tournaments have a variety of rules.

Trust me, Neil's not playing in something with "bar rules". A foul here results in ball in hand.

I'm on the fence. It's a toss up:
1) foul the rack by glueing the 2 to the 1
2) masse the one pretty gently: come 2 rails from behind the one and hope for a lousy leave

Of course Neil's middle name is Houdini. He's watching and waiting to pounce to post a pretty cool shot.

Bring it Houdini! :D
