Hello guys, I am taking some vacation time come first week of February, and plan on playing ALOT of pool, shooting for 8 hours a day. I was just wondering what do you guys think is the best DVD out there to learn from? I have been playing for one year, and would like something that covers a little bit of everything. Also any tips and routines to help with my 9 days of training, are more than welcome! And, if I shot some video of my break, and some of me pocketing balls would you good fellows and ladies be willing to watch and give out some pointers? Thanks

The pro book dvd series is good. if you like 14.1 check out grady's break shots and key balls videos

as for tips don't be afraid to take breaks (staying focused during practice is important) and remember to pause the table time during your breaks

really focus on your fundamentals and your pre shot routine

*hint hint*

lol

On a more serious note, a lot of the members here are both kind and knowledgeable. They'll certainly be willing to offer suggestion and constructive criticism.

Mastering the Basics By Randy G
Play your best pool By Brieseth
Grady stuff is good if you are medium to advanced eight and nineball
Banking with the beard banks that dont go but do 1 & 2 has some insight on some hidden secrets of pool and banks
60 minute workout for 9 ball
Shane Alex race to 100 is the best long match ive ever seen
Efren Strickland is the best race to 120 Ive never seen
Shane Alex race till 21 is the most exciting short match ever.
John Schmidt 14.1 dvd gives some good insight on 14.1

Those three matches are the best pool for learning pattern play for rotational billiards.

my biggest jump came from these dvds.

Gradey MAtthews - kicking and banking videos. Both are the best you will find on the subject.... No easier way to learn both skills.

Now the next is a series of videos it may be 4 or 5 videos.

Bert kinister 9 pointed star series.
I think there is 4 videos.. heres the names. i looked it up

Volume 8
"USING THE 9 POINTED STAR"

Volume 7
"BUILDING THE INTERIOR OF THE STAR"

Volume 6
"USING THE 6 POINTED STAR"

Volume 5
"BUILDING THE SIX POINTED STAR"

this will get you every possible skill u need to up your game. I used these for 6 months and really then started to love the game of pool. This turns practice into a fun challenging atmosphere and ads the preasure needed to run out in competition.. Only move to the next tape after you master the first one and so on....

Bert is a crazy character and has his moments of wackiness but his stuff is great...

Cheers and good luck.

I agree that Play your best Pool by Brieseth and the two by Randy and Scott Lee are good for covering the basics.

The other by Bert is also a classic.

I dont know if this is frowned upon, but is there anywhere to find some free video's or free versions of these dvd's? I am just a poor boy...

Tons of stuff on utube and tons of threads here about that exact subject.

The Pro Book Series with the books. The books have the same shots and you can have them near the table for reference.

I have 60 of the Kinister tapes and I think the Pro Book Series are a better deal and are more help. The 60 minute workout by Bert has basically the same shots.

I personally think Bert's videos are for advanced players. If you've only been at it for a year, you are more than likely still a beginner. You should go with a video from Buddy Hall and learn the fundamentals. They have some on Accu-Stats.com If you also check out Mika's new video, you will be amazed at how similar those fundamentals are compared to those you will see taught by Buddy.

Get those down rock solid, and move on. Your improvement will come in spurts. Learn a little, practice a little, and give yourself time to grow. Keep that up over a long period of time and that's how you do it.

See!? I just let you in on a little secret. There is no other better advice than what I just gave you. No other pro or instructor on earth will argue that. The problem with most is to just make up your mind and do it.

Good Luck.

I have Both of the Pool IQ videos and I think they are great. But If I was to only buy one of them I would recommend Vol 2 on cue ball control

This is a 10 min. teaser of the Rempe/Fusco 1pkt match at the Legends tournament in Philadelphia in 1991, with me, the Beard, as commentator. The full, original accu-stats match runs 3 hours & 5 min. and is now available in DVD format here on this site for $26, and comes highly recommended. If you want to learn some of the intricacies of 1pkt this is the DVD you will want to study and watch. Jimmy Fusco puts on a veritable clinic of how to play master 1 pkt. and squeezes the great Jim Rempe like a python. This is the best-selling accu-stats 1 pkt match of all-time.
