Chris, maybe its time to find a little acreage and do some country living.
Oooops, sorry, I'm telling you what to do.

If she is not hurting anyone then so be it
To the original poster of this thread - didn't you work at Ride the Rail for some time as well? I didn't catch that in your history.
"Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose.". Janis Joplin.
Last night it was a quiet moment in the pool room and this came on the jukebox. The acoustics were perfect and the version just had so much soul in it.
I immediately thought of this thread while it was playing.
It is really nice to have security in life, money in the bank, nice house etc....when all that is rolling well then it is certainly not a bad thing. But it's work. It is sacrificing today's desire for tomorrows that might never come.
Got two kids like I do and an extended family to take care of then the choice is clear for me. Without them I would be free to make whatever life I could be it traveling pool sucker or nailed to the bench case maker. When you have responsibility to other people the choices you can and should make are narrowed.
The way I see it there are three types of folks in this thread.
1. Conserverative security conscious folks who prefer a safe home base.
2. Free spirits who say go all in and follow your desire.
3. Save the World folks who think every person who does not toe the party line is sick and needs to be saved from themselves.
My take on all this as applies to the bigger picture of life is that there are now more than 7 billion of us on earth so we are not very successful at destroying ourselves.
If someone wants to try to be a traveling player then let them. If they are filling some hole in their soul then let them handle their own shovel. If and when they need help with it they will ask.
And someone will help.
That is how the world works.
No, but she gives us quite a story and unless you have been hiding under a rock the last 50 years, you will without any medical training realize that this person needs help with her addiction.
A person who bets 3 years of her life on a game of pool, have some serious issues...
I`m not disgarding that everything has a cost/benifit ration and that scale varies from person to person, think of athletes, astronauts or gold miners to name but a few professions.
Now if Rhea had a carrot (or rather a real gold bar) dangling infront of her it would be fine, but living hand to mouth in USA in 2013, being a woman in some pretty shady places and without and savings to fall back on is not in any way, shape or form a good situation to be in. She might as well have a bullseye target on her back.
If Rhea loves pool, she should get a job, buy a table, practice, take lessons and if everything works out, she should start compeeting.
But from what she tells us, it is clearly the gambling that gets her off, pool is just the vehicle she chooses to do so.
No. The rub will happen when your daughters' friends have their student debt forgiven by the taxpayer as our "investment in education" also known as "buying votes."
Wow, you are really omniscient!
I am amazed at your brilliance about her life. She should not make a move without asking you first. That would make her life perfect.

The lyrics from a song are hardly justification for making stupid decisions. If that's the case, I can offer ample examples of where we all should be killing ourselves, killing other people, killing cops, raping women, blah, blah, blah. Romantic notion though which means very little when viewed in the harsh light of reality.
While he has tried to be gracious, if truth be known, I suspect Gene is breathing a big sigh of relief right now. At least it seems that is a reasonable assumption based on the posts from he and Rhea over the past month prior to the break up. You could see this coming.
At this point, why wouldn't Rhea go ahead and write the final chapters of this book? Based upon her story, she literally has nothing left to go back to or to cling to aside from a repossessed vehicle on her credit score. She apparently is not a heavy drinker or drug user so it seems unlikely that she will make some life altering decision when she's not got control of her thinking. She also seems to have at least some street smarts so hopefully, she won't find herself in a physically threatening situation.
If she ends up flat busted, all she'd have to do is start a thread here and 20 people would be willing to wire her $25 or so for food money and a bus ticket to wherever. I suspect she realizes that.
Good luck Rhea, I hope you find what you are looking for and your journey leads you to happiness. I also hope you remain safe and healthy.

Rhea knows how to take care of Rhea.
....i think Rhea will be just fine.
