rodney morris v greg hogue, 9-ball 10k match

Sounded like a mismatch but I'll bet Greg, who has a lot of personality, was the more entertaining of the two.

I don't care what Fargo says that was a predictable outcome.
Help me out on this. What does that mean? Rodney at a 764, and Greg at 699, is a 65 point difference. According to Fargorate a fair race (even) for a 58 point difference would be a 9-6 race, or (X3) a 27/18 race. The result, 28-18, would indicate Fargorate's estimation was pretty much right on.

That's just math. Don't confuse people with all that mumbo jumbo.....

I stated I don't care as in I am not aware of what was predicted the outcome was highly probable. No I am not surprised that fargorate had it
the way it ended up.

As another poster said they are 2 different level of players.

This guy had 0 chance of beating Rodney 10 ahead.....Rodney is certainly not playing like he did in his prime, but his prime was world class.

World class is so much above the rest of the pool population. A lot of people lose track of how big that gap is.
Rodney has spoken of cueball last being his method. 🤷‍♂️

Just going by the numbers, yes, the estimate was right on. Please keep in mind though, this is one single data point. I have little doubt that I could pull up score history from hundreds of matches that would show zero correlation with Fargo ratings and predicting wins (racks or matches).

I'm not implying Fargo is not a good rating system. To the contrary, it's difficult to argue with their methodology. And even if you don't understand the math or probability stuff, if you look at the rankings as a whole, it definitely passes the sniff test. Personally, I believe having a mathematically based ranking system has been a great addition to help promoting the game and driving fan interest. Bravo to them.

Anyway, just some friendly advice to remind everyone that Fargo is correct over time and large data sets. You could go broke betting your bankroll using Fargo on one or even a few matches.

I know 2 guys who played a set to 25 for a good amount and there was about 35 points difference in their Fargo and the lower rated player won. Maybe not to shocking that the lower rated player won. However they played 10 ball so no slop counted. Also the lower rated player won easily I don’t remember the exact score but it was like 25-11.
