I believe retired people are the ideal "target demographic".

At least he isn't laying down to die and announcing his retirement....

Retired people aren't exactly "laying down to die," some retirees are very young and vibrant, that's for sure.....I gave lessons to a guy 78 years young today and he was like a kid with a new toy when he learned how to do the "hammer stroke" to "Pin" his draw shot the length of the table.

I believe retired people are the ideal "target demographic".

I'm going to start giving "Senior Citizen Discounts" on all my DVD's and Lessons. There's something special about dealing with older people, they seem to really enjoy playing pool for both the mental and physical exercise.

I'm giving a free lesson seminar at their Retirement Recreational Center in two weeks, anyone in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area over 50 is invited, it should be awesome.

Mary Avina will be there as well, for more info. check out my web site next week.

1. Mary Avina is awesome.... just throwing that out there

2. This picture is the very poignant. there's a story about a guy they called "waterdog" that this picture reminds me of. i suggest people check it out. This is what happens to a lot of pool players... incredibly talented players full of potential, and it's sad. it is really sad to see...

3. My hat's off to you CJ for getting people of all ages into pool. It is a fantastic game, and Anyone who can play and is interested, should.

CJ,

Man...I wish you were in N.O or B.R.

I just recommended you to someone in the Ask the Instructor section.

I think he's in Austin.

In the thread someone was complaining about the prices that pool instructors charge & here you are doing a free lesson seminar for seniors & are going to start giving discounts.

Some people have 'real eyes'.

Best Wishes,
Rick

I told him I was making that one my new avatar but I like this picture better. :)

Rodney asked me to send 2 more Black Heart tips to his cuemaker goes by the name Barry Szamboti? I hope I spelled his name right. He must be in bad financial shape to play with some unknown cue. ;)

Rodney

He could always take another bite out of Japan they happily donated last time!

when it gets HUGE again.....the time's coming, it's coming like an overnight express.

Is he available for things like kids birthday parties or stuff like that?

Ken

I think that could be arranged.....Rodney's a Class Act and one of the best representitives we have to offer. Not only does he play well, but he also has the looks and personality to take to any TV Show or even a Movie.....we should count out Blessings that players like Rodney are the future of pool in the next few years when it gets HUGE again.....the time's coming, it's coming like an overnight express. ;)

Waterdog is the best example you could come up with?

I have read the threads on here, read the newspaper article, read some other stuff, and seems like everybody blamed his downfall on drug abuse.

So explain to me how they compare at all? How is "this" what happens to a lot of pool players? They move across the country on a dream and wind up posing for fake pictures to put on facebook? Or they abuse drugs so heavily it affects their health and they lose the ability to play as well as they once could and die?

There is saddness to be seen here, but not where you are looking.

Last time I saw him was when I walked into the tournament room at Hard Times in Sacramento. He was sleeping in the bleachers. Wish I had that picture to share.

I do enjoy teaching seniors and will be putting together some packages

Yes, Mary Avina is truly Awesome, and one of the most outgoing young ladies I've ever been around...she has some You Tube videos now that have over 1.5 Million views which is phenomenal.

Rodney's keeping his sense of humor and must making a point, I'm sure he'll be ok and I'll gladly do some things with him when the time is right. I didn't want to interrupt his activities in Vegas, but would really like to put on some clinics/seminars/exhibitions with him here in TEXAS.....I'm sure it could be a big success as popular as pool is here in the "Lone Star State".

I do enjoy teaching seniors and will be putting together some packages especially designed for their budgets and go visit several retirement communities. I'm doing the one with the gentlemen today when I get back from North Carolina.

Oh, yeah, Mary and I are going to North Carolina to do some interviews for the Earl Strickland Documentary.

If anyone's on the way, between Dallas and Greensboro, let me know asap at thegameistheteacher@gmail.com and maybe we coordinate for private or group lessons or just play if that's what someone wants to do.

Rodney is a keiki no ka aina, A child of the Hawaiian Islands, If he had any problems hundreds of his Ohana (extended family) would be there for him. Aloha no Rodney!
