ronnie allen

Ronnie Allen still makes a cameo appearance at various tournaments, usually in California which I believe is where he lives occasionally. He moves around on the West Coast, sometimes staying with a good friend in Las Vegas when there is a pool event there.

In the autumn of his life, he doesn't have the stamina he once did when he was a young man, but he still likes to play when the opportunity avails itself to him.

I would elaborate more about Ronnie Allen in his twilight years, but sometimes a forum climate makes it difficult to do so. He has always been a very colorful pool player, one who everybody loves to watch when he's hitting 'em.

I miss seeing you too, my friend! :)

Actually, Earthquake will hit the big 50 milestone, come this April, and as such, he will be eligible to compete in senior tournaments. :D

I think Ronnie played in the Swanee tournament in January at Hollywood Billiards.

No, that was Ron Allen from Las Vegas. Much younger and shoots left handed.

Oh Yeah!!!

Ronnie Allen, best one handed player in the world in his day. Jack & Jills, a couple doors down from the old Birchmier (sp) in Arlington, VA. Damn, those were the days. When I wasn't racking balls for a dime a rack at Teds on Hume avenue in Alexandria, I was at J & J's. You could play all day and catch the Seldom Seen at night. The doors to J & J's were never locked from the day it opened to the day it closed.
Purdman:rolleyes:

Do they still have senior tournaments?

I thought I saw Ronnie Allan playing the ponys at the Gold Coast Casino in Las Vegas this weekend.

Is that the same guy as Baltimore Buddy? Whatever happened to him?
Two different guys. I played them both. Haven't seen either of them in years.

Ronnie Allen at Hard Times ...

I saw him back in December at Hard Times Jamboree (Sacramento) and he said he wasn't playing anymore " 'cause nobody wants to play for any REAL money, I mean $3,000 . You gotta' go to Texas to play for REAL Money" ... He mentioned that he was (kind of) based in L.A. but was going to Texas ... ?? ... Can't say with any certainty.

I have a bunch of old Accu-Stats Videos of him playing One-Pocket and Banks ... He is one of the Greats in my book ...

I've been reading about him in 'Road Player' and "the Gospool' lately and was wondering the same thing.

I believe Ronnie lives in Vegas, where he mostly goes to the track (the Waterloo of many pool players). If he is heading for Texas, my guess is that the destination would be the new poolroom slated to open in Dallas.

To confuse the issue, I think Ron Allen --a good shortstop from the SF Bay Area-- also lives in Las Vegas.
