Rude-ass pool players during DCC 9-Ball finals

Not sure if this was posted elsewhere, but had to vent.

During the second Alex vs Warren match, there was a large group of pool players playing (I presume) on the tables in the balcony area. Not sure what they were playing, but they were yelling and screaming (largely in Tagalog I think, but also some loud North American accented English). The volume was ridiculous and showed no respect for the people watching.

Worse still, with the score 2-1 Warren and Alex having broken, they let out a huge yell due to what was happening in their game. It clearly distracted Alex and I think contributed to his mistake from the one to the two. Warren then went on a run and Alex was way behind.

It is bad enough when people who don't play pool have no respect for the game, but these are pool players! They may well have effected the outcome of the match.

Also, with disrespect to the DCC staff, it took way to long to go over and tell them to shut up.

Gideon <~~~Alex still could've won. No excuses.

Distraction

I thought I heard a loud roar on the stream and Alex took a quick look but nothing was ever said by the commentators. Since it was never mentioned, I assumed I was crazy. Thanks for clearing that up....

Also, they shouldn't let people play nearby when the finals are going on..

other tables should have been off limits during the finals, imo.

I also heard the big roar on stream, and yes, it def broke Alex's concentration at that moment.

One of the nice things about the DCC is that the tables can generally be used when not required for the Tourney. Not a single other time did I see it cause a problem, maybe because others were t being jerks.

All it requires is common courtesy.

It would only make sense for the TD to protect Match Play by immediately dealing with the Volume issue.

If the tourney director had immediately dealt with the issue, he would have had to deal with Alex P. during the previous match on the first lower table immediately outside the TV table area.

I was sitting in the balcony in question just prior to the incident. This was the best view in the house. I could watch the main table and Efren gambling with Bustamonte at the same time. I believe Ronny Wiseman was on the table in questing at the time of the commotion.

I thought this event was about the gamble and not the event? Oh well, now we know why the Louie Roberts award banner was removed. Sad really. A pool player can't gamble in a casino. I'm lamenting over this situation and don't care to gamble myself. We are no longer free men. Maybe more laws, taxes and free stuff will fix it.

Anyway, this was a great event. I've been to five of them and they keep getting better.

That would piss me off so much if I were in his position. I wouldn't even play until they stopped that nonsense. That is incredibly disrespectful. Its like being a rail bird and barking and sharking the guy your betting against.

Not sure why this shocks anyone...12'000+ people at amen corner at the masters in April and you can hear a pin drop when any player is hitting an approach! meanwhile @ the derby (arguably the biggest pool event of the year) there are idiots in flat bill hats and sweat pants screaming throughout the building regardless of what's going on...I wonder why pool goes no where?

I have heard conditions can get a little distracting in the phillipines. Maybe we shouldn't go play there.

I am gonna let Alex pinch hit for me.

It is my hope that Alex gave thought to when he played the semi finals in the 14.1 contest a couple of years ago. Where he showed up drunk and was acting like a total donkey. Across the way was the other semi final match going on with Neils Feijen. He was yelling and screaming and acting a fool.
Perhaps he will understand how that kind of behavior can be distracting.

"Pro" pool players in general are quite the cultured lot. Just look at their education level.

Not quite the same but a funny story to relate.

I was reffing at the Canadian Westerns a few years ago. Into the finals one day, there was not much seating available.

So, a few people climbed up a couple of stairs along the wall so they could get a better view.

Apparently, they were also taking pictures. So, some guy near the stairs is holding up his cue, I go running over to see.

This Milk Toast kinda guy tells me that the flashes from the cameras are distracting him, and also, he thinks that they are purposely taking pictures of him to distract him.

But, if you saw how far this guys table was from the picture takers, you would find it hard to believe.

Anyway, I had to honor this guys request and I asked the picture takers not to take any more pics until this guy was finished his game. They were nice enuff to comply.

Must have been a full moon that tourney cause there was a lot more goofy stuff that took place than needed be. I was thinking that at this particular one, they should have handed out 4 Soothers at the control desk with each registration.

Those inconsiderate idiots you guys speak of in the balcony included Dennis and Efren in the middle of it all.

How in the world do you know what was going on in his head? Maybe Alex heard someone stealing Gary's cues...

I may get flamed for this but how much of the noise issue is a culture difference?

Aren't snooker crowds kind of rowdy sometimes?

See, that explains the "Tagalog" as reported by the OP, but what about the "loud North
American accented English"
Sounds like an international beer pong event

Given the players involved I seriously doubt if noise impacted the outcome of the game. Watch a few videos of Efren playing unknown people at various locations in the Philippines - noise, people walking and standing in the line of sight, chaos between racks, players brushing against spectators crowded around the table, etc.

That is the environment they come from.
