Sales / Wanted rules Update

AZB's Wanted/For Sale issues are not unique to the forum world. This forum is in it's infancy stage when compared to other big forum's Wanted/For Sale sections such as golf, knives, guns, watches, etc. They have all gone through the same stuff that is going on here.

Go to some of those forum's WFS sections and read the rules for posting items for sale, Ebay links, bumping, non-related items, etc. They have all been through this and have adopted rules to eliminate the kind of stuff that is going on here. Taking some of those rules from the experienced WFS sections of those sites and applying them to AZ's WFS section would eliminate a large percentage of the issues going on here.

Very true Sir. A Corvette I belong too also has very tightly enforced rules. Step out of line one time get warned. Do it again and BAM!!! instant week or so vacation from the Forum.

I have quite a few collectable knives and became a member of a knife forum several months ago. I can tell you this, some of those guys are old bitter D#$K HEADS, lol. I ask a few questions after I first joined and posted up a couple knives (not for sale and stuff you dont see everyday even to a knife gurus standards) and was bombarded with rude and non helpfull comments. And the owrst of the bunch was the guy who started the forum and is very well known in the knife world. I look at it like this, AZB is the check yourself in and come and go as you please mental hospital compared to some of these maximum security, throw you in the hole prison forums out there.

#1. No one said the Ebay links "jack up" the for sale section! I'm sure the ban on Ebay links has more to do with the fact that if a cue is NOT being sold on AZ, it's sale does NOT belong in this forum. This makes all the sense in the world...I do not understand why some people just don't get it. If links to Ebay were allowed why not links to craigslist, newspaper want ads, or a zillion private websites too? Why sell anything on AZ? We could just use AZ to advertise our OWN websites!
#2. Websites, including this one, make money via banner ads and selling advertising space. For every "click" on an ad, AZ makes money. The more clicks, the more money. You get "clicks" by generating traffic on your website. The more traffic you have, the more prominant you become in the search engines. The more prominant you become, the more advertisers want to buy ads from you. It is absurd that AZ should send traffic to Ebay! When a cue is placed for sale on Ebay, it already becomes prominant (because of Ebays traffic)...when nothing more than a link is placed on AZ, the link is ignored by the search engines! BTW, I was a search engine editor for Netscape, so I do know about how to generate revenue on websites!
#3 The new rule is NOT for us to figure out. It is for us to abide by the new rules. If you don't like the rules...move on!
#4 I love everyone on AZ! Unfortunately there are a few people here that think this forum should be for them and no one else. The dealers here always want the rules changed to make it easier for them to sell their cues and could care less about the guy who has a $200 production cue he must sell! Ever notice when someone puts up a cheap cue for sale, 10 or more dealers will immediately post to push him off page one? It happens all the time! If there was just one rule change or division in this forum...I would want it to be one section for private sellers and one section for dealers! However, I TOTALLY endorse the ban on links to items that are NOT for sale on AZ. It is rule long overdue!

My 2 cents. Wanted for sale should be divided into cues, billiard related items and other. Then custom or production. Then 1$ to $500 to $501 to $1.000 and so on. price can be arranged differently, that would be for the mods to decide.
I also think if you post a cue for sale and it is not selling then you should be allowed a 1 time e-bay bump.
There should be a mandatory once a day only bump for any item being sold. Not 8 times a day.
Asking price or PM for pricing.
Photo and description should also apply.
If these type of rules were applied, i believe there would be no gripes and the for sale page's would be a lot easier to look through.
Another way for selling higher priced cues is in the gallery with great pics and referencing e-bay as to purchase. i doubt if the mods would mind that on high dollar cues.
 
Lots of Good Points & Ideas

I've been reading the postings and suggestions which include some worthwhile ideas to consider. Meanwhile, there's a runaway train on the tracks that needs to get slowed down first before it can be stopped...and the Forum happens to be that runaway train.

The Fourm is becoming infiltrated with postings that literally are like viewing tables at a flea market or browsing at a garage sale. Its become akin to....."I'll trade you my used John Deere lawn tractor for a pool cue but I have no idea what type of cue I'm interested in....and by the way, I haven't any notion how much thamy lawn tractor is worth so either make me a cash offer, or else tell me what cues you're willing to trade for my lawn tractor." ....Sound vaguely familiar to anyone?

There are got folks wanting to trade stuff that has nothing...absolutely nothing to do with pool other than it's a means to an end which is they want folks to trade their cue for their item(s). Recently I saw where a puppy was involved...sell your crap off of this site and come forth with the money or else stay home. The cornucopia of swap offers are getting more ludicrous and the Forum is slowly transforming itself into a cue wars vs auction wars vs flea market reality show. It's becoming pathetic and this trend needs to curtailed.

And bumps....my gosh....right now there's a cue listed for the sale on the forum for the past seven (7) consecutive (7) with periodic, and sometimes excessive, bumps. The listings has had over 9400 viewings....There's no sale in sight. Come on, shouldn't there be a limit to some things. The seller has to realize by now the current listing is akin to a white elephant and he either needs to lower the cue price or else give the listing a rest so he can relist the cue in a month or so with hopefully better results. I know everyone reading these posts have seen this listing because it's a very prominent cue maker and the cue is gorgeous but enough is enough....seven months...over 9K viewings and still no action....something seem wrong with this photo to you?

THE BOTTOM LINE:
"Everyone needs to abide by and follow the Forum's crystal clear, concise guidelines or just quit participating in the forum and go start their own damn website." NUF SED!
 
I like the idea that any bumps by the seller should be accompanied by a lowered price or the item is deleted.

I am also in favor of creating a team of moderators JUST FOR THE WFS section. Many other forums I am on have mods just for specific sections who are picked from the people who spend the most time in those sections.
 
Lots of valid points here. However some of them sound like you are trying to make this into a 'craigslizt' for cues. Post a cue and move along? This is a Forum. Forums are for discussing. People visit forums to learn and talk about things that interest them. For sale threads about meuccis taught me that the earliest MO had brass pin and pill style bumpers, for an example.
Do people need to limit the bumps? Absolutely. But limiting people to only asking questions in PMs? Come on lets enjoy this open forum on cues. Much history is taught here. Many friendships are formed here, lets not ruin that. This isnt your dad's Sunday classifieds. We have evolved since then.

I'm not into adding a bunch more rules. We have rules in place that if followed are fine.

Everybody thinks in different ways and that's what (maybe) makes the world go round. However, I have to admit that some of my favorite (in that "make you wince" way) posts in this thread have been those of the anti-discussion variety. From "the mods said it so its our job to just follow" to the "no open questions" variety in a forum, its been really an illuminating conversation.

This forum is truly a great place, enjoy reading the threads but the best part is meeting all my friends to put a face to the handle they use on the forum.
 
Thanks, Dave, for all you do. It's a shame though that a few minor structure changes to reduce clutter can't be considered, even with no new rules.

I second this one, it just clutters everything here.

***Also why not have an electronic form to complete with all the necessary parts of a good listing in a standard format? That way everybody selling is steered to making better listings, better for sellers and buyers. On the form there could be a brief list of rules for listing here, even an "I agree" checkbox. Then if the person sumbits inappropriate listing, well they get the axe. If everyone knew the listing rules then they could be reported and dealt with. Soon enough things would come in line.***

I like the idea of having a seperate section for the ebay and raffle links.

Just curious though, whats the difference between someone posting eBay links and these other guys posting links to their sites?

Neither of these types of threads after all are actually selling a cue here on this site.
